I think you'd love narcisso rodriguez fleur musc....:)

socraties1234 · 02/07/2018 20:36

@MrsRRR
Thanks I will check that out.

UnnecessaryFennel · 02/07/2018 20:42

It's my work event with Sarah tomorrow. I'm absolutely terrified.

MrsRRR · 02/07/2018 21:08

Oh I'm envious fennel!

BlueKittens · 02/07/2018 21:29

Twilly is a Turin 5 star? Confused I was totally underwhelmed by it (plus the bottle is awful Shock what were they thinking?)

BlueKittens · 02/07/2018 21:32

Good luck with the workshop tomorrow Fennel hope you have lots of fun. Relax and enjoy it Smile

MrsLucas · 02/07/2018 21:44

*Off to.

Brain fried by heat. 31.1 degrees at my desk this afternoon.

So only got as far as Narciso, Vert Boheme and Vert de Fleur tonight. (Good, wonderful, good, respectively). TF haters, go and smell the green stuff. Wonderful reworking of all those 70s gabalnum big hitters, like Silences. If only I could afford the Private Blends...

Have fun Fennell!

MrsRRR · 02/07/2018 21:58

So is Tommy girl...

Utterly baffling

OCSock · 02/07/2018 22:06

Vertine has been lovely this afternoon in the heat. Enjoying it for the first time.

MrsRRR · 02/07/2018 22:32

I'm afraid I lost all respect for LT when he declared skin chemistry had nothing to do with how perfume smelt...
🙄

3DSpex · 02/07/2018 22:34

Exciting, Fennel! Enjoy and don't be nervous Grin

I was in a totally CBA mood tonight and reached for M&S Island Escape (possibly an old fragrance). Aquatic and unisex...not my usual...but am in a foul mood as my good trend's IVF just failed and she can't afford another round for a while...and its at least keeping me steady in my shite mood and the stifling heat of my bedroom.Angry

3DSpex · 02/07/2018 22:34

friends

MrsLucas · 02/07/2018 22:59

TS has a softer line - discusses acidity, oiliness, temperature, and microflora (bacteria) as possible constituents of skin chemistry.

CountFosco · 02/07/2018 23:07

I'm afraid I lost all respect for LT when he declared skin chemistry had nothing to do with how perfume smelt...

He might well be right and it's predominantly in our nose and memory where the differences are perceived. Although that doesn't really explain why perfumes sometimes smell different on DH.

MrsRRR · 02/07/2018 23:09

Nah

He's talking rubbish 😁

3DSpex · 02/07/2018 23:28

Whatever it is - skin chemistry, memories, impressions, past associations etc - we obviously DO experience smell differently.

LT likes to view this in slightly narrow terms I feel at times. Also a bit sexist sometimes. All those gourmand-loving women are obviously a bit thick etc.

Not always on board with him, has to be said.

I used the original 'Bible' as a reference really, for classic fragrances I should sniff out for reference. From that persecutive its been hugely helpful. I def don't need anyone to tell me What To Like, though Grin

Judydreamsofhorses · 03/07/2018 00:20

SOTD was 4160 WIDOMH. I ordered the Caldey Island Lavender at the weekend. I know it’s rated by LT, and if it’s horrible on me I can use it as pillow spray.

Well jel, fennel.

MrsLucas · 03/07/2018 08:34

Yes, his argument is not that we don't smell (perceive) perfume differently, it's whether the reason for the variation is chemical.

Painful though it is to see personal faves assessed as mediocre, he's a brilliant writer/thinker. Just loved the Folio collection of articles.

SotD is Eau du Sud.

OCSock · 03/07/2018 09:26

Popping in to agree with MrsL that TF does greens extremely well. The PP dupe of Verty Boham is good. And I love Vert d'Enscens so much that the 3ml sample disappeared fast, and I'm inclined to give the new Vert des Fleurs a whirl, as and when I spot a tester. Anyone who enjoys galbanum should keep a lookout for a tester of CdG Serpentine to try. It is much cheaper than MMM Untitled and the TFs too.

OCSock · 03/07/2018 09:27

So far, I have resisted the LT update, but the Folio articles were splendid reading.

BlueKittens · 03/07/2018 10:51

Sotd is Zoologist Nightingale- a bright tropical Chypre- perhaps a bit much for the office Blush

I stopped reading Luca Turin. Don’t find his descriptions very helpful as I don’t get a sense of the smell. I also don’t think they wear them enough to fully form a proper judgement- how can you understand a Perfume from smelling it on paper- if deemed good enough apparently he tries it oomhis hand. I know Luca and Tania have their place, but I prefer fragrantica, iscentyouaday and you lot of course Grin

I don’t even find the Turin descriptions very funny- although I know a lot of people do.

BlueKittens · 03/07/2018 10:54

Oh dear sorry for all the typos Blush

3DSpex · 03/07/2018 11:27

I agree, Blue. Fragrantica and Mumsnet Perfumistas all the way Grin

SOTD is Chloe Love Story. Bet LT hates it Grin

teta · 03/07/2018 12:12

Calyx today and Fleur de Liane yesterday. A green fruity floral and a green ozonic. I just want green refreshment at the moment.
I enjoyed Luca Turin’s old blog. But perfume is so subjective and definitely affected by hormones and genes. Both dh and ds1 really dislike citrus perfumes and Ds says they make him feel sick.On the other hand Perfumes that used to smell really good on smell quite different on now I’m 53.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 03/07/2018 12:15

Has anyone else found that if you are ill, perfume smells different on your skin? i definitely have and i don't know why!

SOTD is CK One Red Edition for Her. Cool and fresh since it's still BOILING!!!
