The design team have lost the plot if they let that become a reality.
Stephen Rowe, head of M&S and Jill Mc Donald ( who I think is) Head of Design have you seen it ?
THAT pink dress was an item of sartorial excellence in comparison. Grin

silkpyjamasallday · 11/03/2018 07:32

It looks like it's supposed to be a knock off of dresses from the £££ brand Attico, they do lots of dresses with flounces and jewel coloured velvet, but M&S haven't quite got it right.

MistyMinge · 11/03/2018 07:39

That looks like a 10 year old made it as a design tech project. Absolutely fucking awful. I can only think that the person who designed it has a personal vendetta against M&S.

LoveEricLove · 11/03/2018 07:40

HOW does this happen? How does it go from design to being made let alone put on sale for £89 without someone saying 'that's fucking hideous' ?

FlexTimeCheekyFucker · 11/03/2018 07:45

I can see Amanda or Alesha in that one, Bishopston.

LoveEricLove · 11/03/2018 07:47

It's like the designer hates clothes and the people that wear them.

Notmyrealname85 · 11/03/2018 11:58

I’m honestly considering messaging m&s saying “here are designs I liked of yours in the past, do more along these lines”

The stuff they try like this, the “too whacky for grazia” shite... who really buys this? They try and seem fashion forward, but when was m&s ever needed to be at the very forefront of fashion? I think they need to go to Paris, look at the super beautiful ladies who wear very toned down but well made stuff (tailored trousers, trench coats) and really go for a well respected classics range and leave it at that

Notmyrealname85 · 11/03/2018 12:02

Maybe the problem is this... m&s have their stuff that sells well, knickers and whatnot, but have lost their old audience...

Did they really always sell mostly 60+ clothes? I don’t mean that in a disparaging way, but how many people under 60 buy things very regularly from M&S? (Other than pants and tights!!) Given the volume of stuff they sell and the number/size of stores, you’d think we’d all be buying six items or more from there every year

They sell this shite and yet their workwear range is so small Hmm

There's someone on AIBU bemoaning the fact that after 4 children her old workwear is too tight (amazing to me she can get into it at all!) and people are suggesting where she can get new suitable clothes - NO ONE has mentioned M&S or if they have, I've missed it. This is the sort of thing they should focus on. Up to date, easy to wear, no fuss or frills quality stuff.

HuskyMcClusky · 11/03/2018 14:01

I really like it!

Oh, behave.

When I saw the thread title, I knew it was going to be this dress. I had spotted it on their Instagram feed a while back bored while house-bound in snow.
Looks quite nice on the model, but , um, no.

Fekko · 11/03/2018 14:06

Looka like she's got dressed quickly In the modern of the night (in the dark) when the fire alarms has gone off.

wineoclockthanks · 11/03/2018 14:11

It looks like something my aunt used to make in the 1970's and she was totally bonkers a little eccentric.

AdelicaArundel · 11/03/2018 14:13

And yes, borntobequiet...
I would truly like M&S to revert to their reliable bang-on basics.

I would like:
1.Hip length jumpers -plain coloured, no funny hems/sparkly necklines/ slits in sleeves. In light, heathery grey, navy, black, possibly brown/coffee (I think brown is due for a renaissance)

  1. Cotton trousers for summer basics, which can be fal-di-lalled with scarves or linen T-shirts. Straight- in black, white, navy. Like [https://www.net-a-porter.com/gb/en/product/1042487/nili_lotan/east-hampton-cropped-stretch-cotton-twill-straight-leg-pants these]]
  1. A variety of well made T-shirts. Please. I am actually happy to pay more for a decent well made cotton t-shirt. I have VeroModa t-shirts that are 14 years old and still wash and wear well. 100%cotton in a weight that you cannot find on the High St. In the interim, I have bought and discarded lighter weight ones which gets holes at the belly-button on their second wear...this annoys the hell out of me. Please.
I don't even have a M&S in my town but I always go in when I visit the next town over. But I have left with nothing except Autograph underwear for DS.
ChardonnaysPrettySister · 11/03/2018 14:14

I does look better on a person.

I am wearing a lot of M&S today, everything bought a season ago.

Goldenbug · 11/03/2018 14:17

Maybe it looks better on a body?

ITMama1 · 11/03/2018 14:18

I'm travelling back from a weekend away, catching up on some magazines and came across the monstrosity! 26th Feb edition of grazia.

Blinking flip! 'Colour block tunic dress' sounds like it could be nice. The reality made me gasp with revulsion. It even makes the fresh air wearing it look fat and dowdy.

Justturned50 · 11/03/2018 14:28

No no no!

GinandGingerBeer · 11/03/2018 14:50

Whose going to try it on first and post a pic?
I reckon it needs to be worn with s floppy wide brimmed hat and brogues Grin

tobee · 11/03/2018 15:56

I can't understand how this has only just surfaced? Surely it's not part of their summer collection???

BishopstonFaffing · 11/03/2018 15:57

Flex - it sort of reminds me of Monty Python. Like a tunic and beard in one.

OutyMcOutface · 11/03/2018 16:00

I am so disappointed that they didn’t have a picture of it on a model.

SweetieBaby · 11/03/2018 16:03

Has the design team been infiltrated by a competitor whose aim is to bankrupt M and S?

Flomper · 11/03/2018 16:04

I knew it would be in Grazia. I publicly dare one of their staff to go out wearing it.

It does look marginally better on the model without the hideous, hideous belt, but still hideaous. Amd how is that oractical for cold weather? The droopy bit would drag in the snow and puddles.
