I have a couple of trench coats and think they are a nice classic staple! Agree with the kitten heels though.

MelonKim · 04/03/2018 11:07

I dont know anyone in rl who wears a trench coat - or would look good in one!

Trench coats only look good on the rail thin. And kitten heels are harder to walk in than proper high heels IME.

MelonKim · 04/03/2018 11:12

and unless you are a size 8 you look like an elephant standing on a drawing pin

TheNavigator · 04/03/2018 11:14

I love kitten heels - but then I am size 8 Grin

I like the look of trench coats, but they don't like me.

Kitten heels are horrible.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/03/2018 11:34

"Elephant standing on a drawing pin" - Yes to this.

Lucked · 04/03/2018 11:37

I like s trench coat but the material has to be thick enough that it hold the shape and doesn’t crease. I did get a good one last year in Zara but zara also had plenty of poor quality ones.

Major bug bear is the belts are too short to tie rather than fasten the buckle which looks naff.

mrscampbellblackreturns · 04/03/2018 11:39

I have a navy trench coat and it is very nice. Also have some kitten heels which are nice but they do get trashed very easily.

holycityzoo · 04/03/2018 11:41

Yes to elephant on a drawing pin. Add in size 7 feet and it becomes on elephant wearing clown shows standing on a drawing pin.

TheNavigator · 04/03/2018 11:45

c'mon, kitten heels can look great

TroubledLitchen · 04/03/2018 11:48

WTF is wrong with a trench coat?! Major first world problems but during Spring/Autumn there are so many identical trenches on the coat stands at work that you can’t tell whose is whose. Twice last year someone went wrong with the wrong coat. Bit cringe to admit this but they are all Burberry if that makes a difference?!

With you on the kitten heels though!

EggysMom · 04/03/2018 11:50

I love coloured trench coats, don't care how they make me look, they are sensible unpadded raincoats for commuting to work. I used to have a light blue one from Primark, when I looked for a replacement two years ago I really struggled but eventually found a navy trench in BHS.

Spartacunt · 04/03/2018 12:02

I look like Ronnie Barker in Open All Hours in a trench. If I belt it up, it rides up to sit attractively under my bosom.

Ellapaella · 04/03/2018 12:05

Example of someone looking nice in a trench coat (in my opinion of course)

I have a very nice dark blue trench coat that I got in the sale from Toast. Not as keen on beige trench coats - I think it depends on your colouring.

SpiritedLondon · 04/03/2018 12:19

I’ve got a beige Burberry that I bought second hand but washes me out and is very unattractive on my hourglass shape. I think a softer cut and different colour would be better. They are great for commuting when you don’t need to be super warm but if generous enough can be layered over leather jackets etc. Kitten heels look awful on me but I’m a size 16 - I look much better in a block heel.

SoFancy · 04/03/2018 12:38

I like kitten heel boots. They have to be good quality leather, though. I think they look elegant (and I'm 5'11, so don't need masses of extra height). I prefer them to the awful fashion thats been going on for years of very high heels. Dreadful.

Agree on trench coats, though. Not for the large of norm among us, anyway. I feel like a trussed up turkey in one.

SoFancy · 04/03/2018 12:41

norm = norks

newsfromnowhere · 04/03/2018 12:48

I'm 5ft 2in and love kitten heels. Think they are super chic. Trenches can also look fab on the right person but are difficult to carry off - maybe I'm too short?

george49 · 04/03/2018 12:48

I bought one beige trench coat and found out that:

It was constantly creased and looked like a dish rag
I therefore looked like a bag lady in it
It got filthy really quickly
It wasn't very warm

And kitten heels - no thanks

HildaZelda · 04/03/2018 13:04

@MelonKim, lol @ elephant on a drawing pin Grin I'm a size 8 with size 4 feet, and I HATE kitten heels. My legs are the best bit of me, but I wouldn't wear kitten heels in a month of Sundays,

As for trench coats, I don't mind them on other people, but they swamp me and I look silly in them.

Suburbanfocks · 04/03/2018 13:26

I saw a photo of clémence poésy looking effortlessly chic in one so I needed one!
It took a while to find one which was the right shade but I love it.
Kitten heels are a no.

Floisme · 04/03/2018 13:30

The only person I have ever seen look really good in a trenchcoat was Humphrey Bogart.

And, as a raincoat that doesn't keep off the rain, it is possibly the most useless garment in the whole history of fashion.

None of which stops me wanting one.
