I'm 5'5 and stunning though Grin

keiratwiceknightly · 04/03/2018 15:24

I've got a red trench coat which I like but as i also have TITS I wear it unbuttoned with the belt wankily tucked into the pockets.

keiratwiceknightly · 04/03/2018 15:25

I will not be doing cropped wide legs. I've not seen a person look good in them yet.

Thistlebelle · 04/03/2018 15:28

I love trench coats. I currently have a beautiful navy blue one from Hobbs.

What else do you wear to work over a suit in Spring/Summer when it’s raining but not cold enough for a coat?

I agree on kitten heels though - a very difficult look to carry off.

mylaptopismylapdog · 04/03/2018 15:31

All for trench coats but kitten heels are a no no as I would be too much like hard work to walk in.
However I think fashion editors have bigger problems, generally that they live in a world where clothes are worn by rail thin young people not the real world where people come in all shapes, sizes and ages and sometimes need practical clothes. I love the luxury fashion spreads of beautiful impractical clothes but wish the was a better balance with real life!

TheFallenMadonna · 04/03/2018 15:31

I have a trench coat. A waterproof one from Aigle. It is fab. I am not a size 8...

Floisme · 04/03/2018 15:34

You've clearly not seen me keira

Thistle I'll be wearing a men's mac that I've had altered to fit. I much prefer the shape and, being made for men, it has proper pockets.

I actually quite like things that show off my waist but I've yet to find a trench with the waist in the right place. Instead I end up with midriff bulge.

UsernameInvalid66 · 04/03/2018 15:37

I'm a size 18 and I have a very colourful short trench that I love and have had lots of compliments on. For some reason I think I'd only wear a classic cream one in a longer length, although I wouldn't really want a cream coat anyway as they get dirty so easily.

Kitten heels, I don't mind the look of them, but I walk a lot and I do prefer a sturdier heel because they don't wear out so quickly. Again, this may not be so much of a problem if you're lighter.

PNGirl · 04/03/2018 15:39

I feel like outwear and footwear is so often viewed through the lens of people who commute in London via public transport and on foot. I don't need to be kept dry while walking to work, as I drive, so I just want something warm enough til the car heats up and for the 200 yards or so from parking space to office. I have a Burberry wool coat (trench cut/style) and it's my most-admired piece of clothing! I am neither a size 8 nor small of chest.

I think wide-legged jeans with tightly fitting ankle boots is my least-favourite recent thing.

Floisme · 04/03/2018 15:44

I don't like them with boots either. It's that flash of skin that makes them work for me.

franktheskank · 04/03/2018 16:01

I have loads trench coats and they suit me, I'm not skinny, size 14 with 34gg boobs! I wear it open most of the time.

Kitten heels aren't my cuppa tea but I can imagine them suiting some people.

rightknockered · 04/03/2018 16:39

I'm 5ft 5 and size 6. My shoe size is size 5. Still dislike kitten heels, just don't feel that I can walk in them, they feel a bit clumsy. (Always loved trench coats). My size 14 friend looks fab in her trench, maybe it's a body shape rather than size thing, she's a gorgeous hourglass. (Although size 14 isn't actually big).

Ididnthearanything · 04/03/2018 18:15

Love wide legged croppeds. (So looks wrong). Perfect for warmer days. If they’re slightly shorter, a sock boot works tho I admit it had to grow on me. What’s not to love. Comfy, no wet trousers from rain, not skinnies, different from recent fashion. Win win if you ask me.

But not with a kitten heel as the fashion folk say.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/03/2018 18:24

I enjoyed wearing wide leg crops in the summer with trainers - don't care if I looked silly or not, as I was comfortable. Haven't found a way to make them work for winter.

KickAssAngel · 04/03/2018 18:26

I love kitten heels, and used to always wear them for work - as a teacher. I can't do high heels if I'm on my feet all day, and ballet pumps really make my feet hurt and seem to make my achilles heel hurt a lot as well. I have to have something with an actual kind of heel on, it can't be totally flat.

I also own a trench coat but wear it for practical reasons when it's warm & rainy rather than as a fashion statement.

ZaZathecat · 05/03/2018 08:19

I think trench coats suit everyone. You don't have to do the belt up like a snowman if it doesn't suit you.

Floisme · 05/03/2018 09:00

But if I don't do up the belt I have a so-called raincoat that I have to leave open.

I don't mind that with jackets, which are designed for milder dryer weather but a coat I can't fasten without looking like a knob is not fit for purpose.

OCSockOrphanage · 05/03/2018 09:08

I've got my old kitten heels out of their box (from the last time around) and will be wearing them again as an alternative to trainers when spring arrives, with wide leg trousers, some of them cropped (but others full length). And I don't have a trench but I do have a rather fetching navy corduroy alternative. Can't wait!

theftbyfinding · 05/03/2018 09:10

I just sold a brand new, expensive trench on EBAY because, with a bust, it wore me. Belted I looked matronly, and all the detail at the front was just too much. Kitten slingbacks I love though. The right height to be comfortable all day. Don't like spindly thin heels on them though as I go down every crack in the pavement.

The crisp white shirt thing evades me too for similar bust reasons. Cullottes is another no-no. And leather bikers slung casually over the shoulders, tres annoying. Flats too, at 5'5, I need a bit of something. Love the platform trainers that are everywhere though.

Ididnthearanything · 05/03/2018 09:51

Love those platform trainers too. And the platform brogues a la Trinny.

Timefortea99 · 05/03/2018 11:10

Kitten heels are horrible, a trench is a staple stylish item. I will always have a trench in my wardrobe.

Timefortea99 · 05/03/2018 11:12

To qualify, the trench has to be waterproof, or what is the point? It must also be a fabric that does not crease. And they are thin on the ground.

Frankiewears · 05/03/2018 11:52

Love both of these and can’t wait to crack them out. I never wear my trench done up but just like an extra layer with the belt tied at the back as I have no waist. This gives it some shape without the sack of spuds look. I even scrunch the sleeves up 😁

I LOATHE those platform bricky brogue mingers.

Did anyone happen upon the Style section in The Times yesterday? What the actual fuck are they on? You would have a hard time trying to outdo the chaotic, impractical and ugly offerings or even trying to water it down into anything passable.

How are these people paid for churning out this utter wank?

theftbyfinding · 05/03/2018 11:55

Now a Macintosh I can get with. Chic and unfussy. dicks-edinburgh.co.uk/products/mackintosh-gr-010-hooded-raincoat-in-ink-blue

Timefortea99 · 05/03/2018 13:33

I did see the special Sunday Times fashion issue, dire. When you see Italian, French style magazines and then see our offerings we get it so wrong. I was walking down South Molton Street last year and there was a poster of one of Mick Jagger's daughters (Georgina?Georgia?) advertising Rimmel saying Get the London Look. There was a group of three women (tourists I assume from Germany, Scandi etc), they saw the poster, one of them said Get the London Look in a scathing voice and they all fell about laughing and talking in their own language. I felt a curl of shame because their contempt was bang on.
