Monica Vivader bracelets can be crap quality, witnessed first hand.

Sharperthanasharpie · 13/03/2018 22:23

WIT's story was quite amusing "I can't believe I even get a present!". I guess that's the #gift equivalent in WIT-world.

Sharperthanasharpie · 13/03/2018 22:27

I emailed M&S twice to ask them what their policy was regarding influencer marketing and disclosure requirements because I was fed up of the inconsistent practices I could see happening.

They didn't respond.

I guess they don't care about consumers.

nipersvest · 13/03/2018 23:03

I’d be very interested to know the marketing statistics of an event like that, does giving freebies to Instagrammers already dripping in free jewellery translate to sales?? CLTS mentioned a bracelet that was big enough to have a quote engraved, it did occur to me a much more worthy piece of marketing could be to create medic alert jewellery, and get the bloggers to run a giveaway rather than keep yet another freebie for themselves.

"As much as I like Anya and her contribution to the thread, why are we still talking about MOD and FOD 😫"

I would guess it is because MOD, as MidwifeyHooper, was extremely relatable and she gained the trust and goodwill of her IG audience.

She then rebranded as Mother of Daughters and her husband rebranded as Father of Daughters. (The matching IG handles have always been a bit cringeworthy - perhaps that was Strike 1?) Expensive holidays and designer children's wear rolled in - all undisclosed as advertising - plus there was the move to a big house. (Not to mention the incredibly unsubtle grifting for whitegoods.)

In a surprisingly short period of time MOD became unrelatable and she lost at least some of her audience's trust and goodwill. People are maybe cross that MOD has benefited quite so much from them while her IG has changed to being mostly advertising?

There is also the fact that the success of MOD and FOD's IG accounts is dependent upon four photogenic daughters. That's another can of worms that might make a lot of the former MidwifeyHooper's audience uncomfortable.

It's like a case study in how to ruin one's own Instagram account in several easy steps!

Summed up beautifully MadameGrizzly

MadameGrizzly · 14/03/2018 06:51

It's a shame, as Clemmie The Person, as opposed to MOD The IG Account, seems likeable and decent.

I'm glad she is keeping her midwifery skills current.

flugelhorn3 · 14/03/2018 07:47

I can't work out who WIT is!

Smellthecovfefe · 14/03/2018 07:49

I don't really understand why bloggers keep doing that "can anyone give me any recommendations for" thing. Surely if they want to do a post about skincare or whatever they could get their agent to reach out to a few brands behind the scenes and say they wanted to something on skincare. They know it pisses followers off but keep doing it. When I see bloggers do it I just think: ffs use google like everyone else!

I thought it was quite telling that when Clemmie Telford did the whole 'I need winter sun recommendations' thing she showed in her stories a picture of a search bar with "winter sun' in the search box. Top of the search list was the old bloggers favourite - destinology holidays. When I type in winter sun into my google I get Thomas Cook and Tui!

WipsGlitter · 14/03/2018 07:56

WIT = wearing it today = Laura Fantacci = wardrobe icons

easypeasylife · 14/03/2018 08:08

I was wondering if FOD (in collaboration with MOD) is looking for a child free holiday in Dubai after the stories last night 😬

megansmandstop · 14/03/2018 19:22

Yet another gifted box of beauty products doing the rounds on Stories, this time from Bobbi Brown and noticed this on the bottom of the accompanying card someone shared:

"Should you decide to share the love, we encourage you do it by the book and let your friends and followers know that we have sent you the latest from Bobbi Brown cosmetics. Register with Bobbi Brown Cosmetics to share our affiliate programme"

All I saw was a "thank you Bobbi Brown" typed over the story. Just goes to prove how low the bar is in terms or rules and regulations, if that is all it takes to go "by the book". Plus all BB or any brand has to do is request it, not enforce it by the looks of it.

WipsGlitter · 14/03/2018 19:37

Anelli Bush got a MASSIVE box of Laura Mercier stuff today. I was wel jel!

CookingUpAStormTonight · 14/03/2018 20:59

I always wonder what advice these parents, the ones who have monetised their children's childhood, will give them about social media when they get to an age to be interested in it.

OP posts:
nipersvest · 14/03/2018 21:45

I stopped following Annelli Bush when she started hastagging her baby. He’d have to be 13 to have his own account but can have his own hashtag from birth, it’s like pimping out your child for freebies.

DomesticDrudge · 15/03/2018 09:53

Has anyone else wondered how children’s earning are treated in all this. A friend of mine’s son has done lots of stage work, adverts etc and the rules about his earnings are v strict. They have to be paid into an account in his name which he can then access when’s he’s 18. If you’ve developed a brand (like FOD and MOD) which is based on being a very photogenic family, particularly the children, then surely part of whatever is earned should be treated as children’s earnings? Or maybe we’ll see instakids taking legal action against their parents for breaching their right to privacy in future years...

easypeasylife · 15/03/2018 10:44

Domestic I think that is different as the child is being contracted to do stage/modelling etc, it is nothing to do with the parents so rules have to be strict. I would imagine that their dc will not be paid anything by brands/ads/promos as for now it is the instamum/dad that is supposedly in the spotlight.

Along those lines though, if anyone knows of the Duggars (US' largest family, they feature on TLC) there is a bit of a kick up at the moment as apparently one of the dd's (who is now an adult) did not get the money that was supposedly in a trust fund for her appearances in the show. It goes to show you that these things can really come back to bite you.

Kaybush · 15/03/2018 11:59

This thread is very timely as I've just watched a cringe-inducing Madeleine Shaw video called The Real Reason I went to New York.

It's basically a long advert for Origins, who flew her over to tour their factory (and walk in slow motion through Central Park).

I've followed her mainly for her recipes, so there isn't such a real life over-lap as with some bloggers and she has seemed very genuine until now, but a couple more like this and I'll have to unsubscribe/unfollow!

Ktay · 15/03/2018 17:38

I see Scummy Mummies are at a Dorset Cereals event. Wonder who else will pop up 👀

nipersvest · 15/03/2018 18:38

DLAM is there too. Now does the fact Dorset Cereals are sponsoring this, make me want to rush out and buy their products?? Errrr no, not one bit. In fact the self congratulating, self indulgent instagramming is vomit inducing.

sweetmonkeys · 15/03/2018 18:48

All I thought when I walked past the Dorset Cereals in Waitrose today was 'HAHAHAH you do shitty insta promotions!'. Then I went and picked up my faithful, non-influencer promoted Rice Krispies.

JessicaPeach · 15/03/2018 19:18

Bit of a misfire from matalan and CLTS, matalan thanks Chloe for the photo, majority of comments asking how much the jacket she’s wearing is...not from matalan.

WipsGlitter · 15/03/2018 19:29

I cannot watch the scummy mummies. I get embarrassed for them.

AdidasGirl · 15/03/2018 19:32

I'm glad it's not just me that cringes when I see them @WipsGlitter

Stickthatinyerpipe · 15/03/2018 19:38

A champagne fuelled #retreat attended by fashion bloggers promoting....breakfast cereal. Wut? 😳
