A good example of a brand utilising an “influencer” in an effective way: Uniqlo has used Midlifechic to showcase the Ines de la Fressange collection for the past couple of years. It’s exclusive (so we don’t get tired of seeing the same thing again and again - see Charlotte Tilbury balloons et al), and targeted to their desired audience. A win win all round

Ithasbeenalongtime · 16/02/2018 15:58

@homebythesea It does seem more targeted, and her disclosure on her blog is good. But nothing on her instagram, which seems odd Confused. Does she ever #ad or #gift anything?

boxoftoads · 16/02/2018 17:11

One thing I regularly take from this thread is the number of people who must be reading it, seeing the very valid discussions, not posting and then happy to filter and twist the message to be the opposite of the points made.

'Oh they mentioned XYZ - what absolute coooowwwwss. How very dare they. Love you all darlings etc etc'

Actual post - wouldn't it be nice if people tagged the free stuff in posts. Transparency would be good, what has been paid for and what would they really buy with cash?

Anyways, it's Friday. Time for Gin and Glitterball

WipsGlitter · 16/02/2018 18:11

We're all the "main" bloggers given that Gucci belt? It's everywhere!

PavlovaPrincess · 16/02/2018 18:33

On MOD's latest Florida post, someone has asked who approached who, which MOD has answered and then she's said that 'Transparency is really important to us'.

Not important enough to mark things as 'gifted' though apparently, according to one of her replies on the previous thread.

Bananajam · 16/02/2018 19:08

Esther Coren also featured Ines de la Fressange on her blog yesterday - the same rainbow jumper, although she wasn't modelling it.

Bananajam · 16/02/2018 19:09

The Uniqlo collection, that should say..

Ithasbeenalongtime · 16/02/2018 19:28

MOD says on her reply that "this is our first paid partnership travel/holiday collaboration nothing really says family holiday more than Disney". What about the Martinhal holiday? Confused I thought that was revealed as an ad. It was certainly tagged repeatedly with the holiday company.

WipsGlitter · 16/02/2018 19:34

See with Esther I wasn't sure what she was doing! She then rushed to the shop because it all sold out online. She was then a bit meh about the the clothes and the fact she'd promoted it but couldn't buy any of it.

Did they all have to reapply the max factor make up the next day? I saw Esther and Chloe both doing it the next day.

Itsautumn · 16/02/2018 19:44

Elspeth, agree completely with your comment about Ruth Crilly. Someone I really liked and I enjoyed her blog when she was all about skincare and makeup. Now it’s all about ads that are unrelated to what she was originally about. It’s such a shame.
I think that IG will have a limited lifespan. Something else will come along and be new, authentic and original until brands and PRs get their hands on it!

chloechloe · 16/02/2018 19:45

Thanks for the new thread!

I thought MOD's Portugal holiday was sponsored too in some way. Did anybody see the clip M/FOD showed of announcing to the kids that they were going to Disney? One of the older girls was really sweet and hugged them and said "thank you so much". It struck me as ironic as the children have helped it come about by virtue of them being photographed and put on SM.

I felt some of the comments about MP on the last thread got a bit too personal. It's a shame as those type of comments then get bandied about on IG as typical of the "MN haters", whilst the valid intelligent comments get overlooked. To be fair to MP she's brave enough to answer her critics, even on the most difficult of questions. As to putting her children out there on SM, she made a comment on IG to the effect that she does question whether she was doing the right thing, but what she's doing now workwise leaves her much more time for her family. So hats off to her for - most of the IGers just ignore the tough questions!

chloechloe · 16/02/2018 19:46

As for AMR I'm on the verge of unfollowing too. She was flogging Lenor this week!!!!

PavlovaPrincess · 16/02/2018 19:47

@Ithasbeenalongtime ha, I thought the same. People kept asking her whether that holiday was a freebie and she ignored and deleted the comments, but I was sure she finally admitted it.

Maybe it was a 'gift' so MoD felt she didn't have to declare it 🙄

WipsGlitter · 16/02/2018 19:54

what she's doing now workwise leaves her much more time for her family

See, I don't get this - I'm happy to be corrected but what she's doing I think leaves less time for her family as every single thing they now do is "content" that can be exploited. Nothing is private because you need to maximise your exposure so brands will want to work with you, so there's pressure to post all the time. You can afford to slip down the ratings. So a simple trip out in the (sponsored) car to the (gifted) childrens attraction is maximised / exploited. It must be exhausting.

Noticed the hotel in Amsterdam was tagged a lot... freebie?

sanpelligrino · 16/02/2018 20:19

And what about the villa holiday they all went on last year? Maybe that was just a freebie and not a paid for freebie? HmmHmmHmm

Ithasbeenalongtime · 16/02/2018 20:26

The picture she posted about 3 weeks ago wistfully remembering her holiday to Martinhal is tagged as an #ad so to say Disney is the first holiday collaboration appears to be utter bollocks a little misleading.

TheLuckyMrsPine · 16/02/2018 20:29

Yes I thought MOD went somewhere like Greece, and Portugal and also Cornwall as part of a “collaboration” and now Disney is the first Hmm

Ithasbeenalongtime · 16/02/2018 20:36

The Corfu holiday is "thanks to Scottwilliamsvillas". Transparency is really important to us? Yeah, sure it is Hmm.

ohbitchplease · 16/02/2018 20:43

Transparency is so important to MOD that she doesn't like the word 'gift', but uses 'sent' instead.

Ollycat · 16/02/2018 20:47

MOD and DLAM went on a cruise which was #ad - maybe a paid partnership is something different HmmBrew who knows?!?

Ollycat · 16/02/2018 20:49

Not sure what happened with emojis?!? Confused wanted this one Confused

Ollycat · 16/02/2018 20:53

Oh and they went to Essaouria which was #ad - so they’ve all been since Dec 2016.

Don’t begrudge them though but clearly there is a lack of openness about the gifting / ad / paid partnerships

Londonlivin · 16/02/2018 20:54

Wipsglitter, I wondered the same thing about the Gucci belt. Every blogger seems to have it but I can’t imagine Gucci using small time bloggers to advertise their product. Many of them had the Gucci crossbody bag too. I do think Gucci sponsor housewives of Beverly Hills though 😬

Ithasbeenalongtime · 16/02/2018 20:57

I think either way if you are given a free/discounted holiday or paid money to go on holiday with or without a free holiday tossed in as well, its a collaboration, IMO. If you are promoting the holiday company or holiday location in any way its a collaboration, whether cash exchanges hands or not. Wondering now whether she means this is her first paid partnership/collab with Disney meaning we can perhaps look forward to some more in the future Grin. That's the only way I can see what she wrote has any legs at all.

I was interested to see what the deal was, I came to the conclusion that the requirement was at least one IG post a day per parent plus stories and most of the pictures needed to include all the children. Because nothing really says family holiday more than Disney does it? Wink

anyalovesrose · 16/02/2018 21:00

Hi all.
A paid partnership means a blogger has been paid to do that ad. This is the first paid holiday, Martinhal gave us a discount but they didn’t pay us to go, same with Scott Williams. I wonder if a better # would be more appropriate or just a simple ‘we received a discount on x,y,z’. Genuinely I’m trying to be better at being more transparent from here on so I appreciate any feedback that would help here.
