New thread I hope.

Yes, mytether I mentioned Claudia Winkleman's Sunday Times post upthread and I think you are so right. For me it is just unfortunate, and maybe even unfair, but the Instamums do promote the enough is never enough concept. There is the very obvious "please recommend" - gimme, gimme, gimme and the envy-inducing look at my latest haul. Ultimately, it is a bizarre, self-congratulatory world that can't continue in its present way.

MOD if that was you can I ask a question?
If you are given a holiday and you go and it’s awful can you be honest when you review it? Or if there are things about it that aren’t great? Could you be honest? Or because it’s anpaid thing do you just have to hope it’s going to be good?
Because usually places are reviewed by people that pay their way or the Newspaper they work for has paid for it. I just wasn’t sure..

Fruitbowl2 · 13/03/2018 19:49

Was MOD answering a question or making a statement 🤔

DillyDilly · 13/03/2018 19:57

So funny, FOD on Instastories just now asking for advice on how to look after himself/moisturizing regimes - no doubt a slew of skin care products from various brands will land on his doorstep soon!!

AdidasGirl · 13/03/2018 20:14

I wondered the exact same thing @Fruitbowl2

Fruitbowl2 · 13/03/2018 20:24

Yeah FOD thinks he's hilarious doing that, I bet.

Have concluded instagram is the work of the devil and I'm done. I'm deleting it.

Paintbox · 13/03/2018 20:26

Mod was answering the qu of how much time her husbands spends on the Instagram stuff

Paintbox · 13/03/2018 20:28

And I’m surprised she did actually considering the poster who asked the question called her a twerp and called bullshit on her husband too!

anyalovesrose · 13/03/2018 20:53

Paintbox

Why lower myself to that persons standards? Name calling is not my thing I’m not here for a fight

Paintbox · 13/03/2018 21:04

No I know you’re not anya. You were very restrained, I think the last few posts about your husband have got a bit personal and uncalled for

magickingdom82 · 13/03/2018 21:06

I was wondering just how much "spare time" your husband has for all these ad campaigns for other companies. Surely that instagram account is a full time salaried job? It can't just be a side hobby surely, he must be being paid handsomely to put his supposed life and that of his daughters online for all to see in that manner. I'm genuinely interested.

magickingdom82 · 13/03/2018 21:13

I wasn't personal I said I think the whole thing is very narcissistic. That might not sound very nice but there can't be any denying that it is?
I also said it looks like he puts his life and soul into his Instagram account - not a criticism - it does look like that.
I also said he must be paid for the content- it looks incredibly professional - I'm new to all this, it's a genuine question.
I also said I'm surprised he's struggling with childcare when he has a nanny but that's been explained.
It's great people make an appearance on these threads but I do wish they would clarify things for those of us who don't know how it all works - otherwise what's the point?

Sharperthanasharpie · 13/03/2018 21:21

To be fair it looks like he posts maybe one IG post a day? I can see it’s entirely possible to do that as well as hold down a non blogger job as well. It’s not exactly rocket science.

(As much as I like Anya and her contribution to the thread, why are we still talking about MOD and FOD 😫)

WipsGlitter · 13/03/2018 21:31

I think he does a mix of planned content and spontaneous.

magickingdom82 · 13/03/2018 21:32

I disagree. Surely the "my husband is a management consultant" is just a ruse for people to feel like they are just "one of us".

Brands pay them big money but for that they have to show they are just like you and me.

Just my opinion. Happy to be proven wrong.

Sharperthanasharpie · 13/03/2018 21:36

I agree with both of you. Having a “normal” job is key to being relatable. But I still think it’s entirely possible to do a normal job and produce the content he does on IG (and probably wise as I think Instadadding has a limited shelf life)

CookingUpAStormTonight · 13/03/2018 21:38

...... a bit sad, and probably pointless, but it does make me feel a bit better, I now email all these companies I used to buy from to explain that they have lost my business because it is insulting to see how they are courting IGers and neglecting people who actually have to use real money to buy things. I do know that I am one small person but, honestly, it does make me feel better. If, and I think we all accept it now, these IGers are business people earning a living out of what they do (and very good luck to them) there just needs to be a little bit more honesty about it. The IGers do it to make money, the companies court them to make money, and we buy it because we are persuaded that we absolutely #must, yes,#musthave have it to keep up with these glossy folk. Hey, I deserve it/need it - I #must, yes #must be rewarded for doing all those things we have always done. It is actually quite strange to me as a full time working mother how badly treated I have always been....... just feeling grateful to all these IGers for telling me that. And, if either my mother (also a full time working mother) or my father were alive now I know exactly what advice they would be giving me......... and it wouldn't be polite!

Sharperthanasharpie · 13/03/2018 21:42

Fitting in Guardian photo shoots, various holidays and writing books etc as well as producing the IG content sounds slightly more challenging though, I accept. Wouldn’t be surprised if he had reduced hours on the normal job to allow more time for Instadadding.

magickingdom82 · 13/03/2018 21:52

Take a company like I dunno mothercare or early learning centre. They would pay thousands upon thousands to get a tv advert at prime time, advertising in magazines etc. By contrast they can pay a (relative) pittance to a social media influencer/instagrammer with 800k followers who has the exact target market they need...but how will consumers buy into it - if they believe the instagrammer is just like them - this is where the whole 'oh I just have a regular management consultancy job' comes in

DillyDilly · 13/03/2018 21:55

Of course FOD spends a considerable amount of time running his social media business, it takes more effort and time than snapping a quick photo.

Have to say beginning to find him a tad creepy, just saw his latest Instastory with him in bed, saying he just given himself a facial and Clemmie was livid he was in bed. I know I’d be livid if my husband told several hundred thousand people that I was annoyed because he’d gone to bed early !!!

Itsautumn · 13/03/2018 21:57

I just read the Claudia W article and it really resonated with me.
It also makes me uncomfortable that everyone seems very at ease in showing their very young children so freely. But maybe that's me being overly cautious and old-fashioned!

DillyDilly · 13/03/2018 22:00

Actually, I should unfollow both. FOD is now upstairs in bed telling us all that MOD is livid he’s having an early night nd she’s downstairs posting telling us he’s rummaging through her skincare products and so on. Cringey.

And I’ve realised that his furrowed/lined forehead loom is just a contortion of his, when he forgets and is in a natural pose, practically a line free forehead!!

Sharperthanasharpie · 13/03/2018 22:03

Yep @magickingdom82, that's basically the last 3 threads in a nutshell!

WipsGlitter · 13/03/2018 22:11

Lots (well WIT, DMBL and CLTS) at a Monica Vivander (sp) thing tonight. Getting free bracelets.

Do you thing other IGers get all peeved that they're not invited?
