Are Charlotte Tilbury products worth the ridiculously expensive cost?

For example, I absolutely look the look of the the Hollywood Contour Duo but bugger me it's £51. Ditto the lipstick trios - look gorgeous but £60 for three!

I love the perfume but I refused to pay that price for a plastic bottle (not even glass!)

I know she must be laughing all the way to the bank but is the quality of the make up really there?

I also don't think you can really judge a brand on its perfume as it's such a personal thing, I hate Estée Lauder beautiful but I wouldn't judge their lipsticks on that!

Yes, my perfume bottle is glass too

Kat Von D is a brand that I avoid on principle. That lipstick name is foul

I posted a thread here recently as new blusher had broken - realised I didn’t even want to get it replaced as tbh it’s so unflattering! Same with lip pencil - do all my makeup, decide to do a bit of lip liner / tinted balm to finish off (don’t suit strong lipstick due to shape of lips) and bam! The shade of what I THINK is pillow talk drains my face of colour immediately. Quite impressive.

I have seen her with hubby a few times as they went to my chiropractor, he is seriously hawwwt in a nerdy way, she was very very sexy and attractive in a very French, considered way if you know what I mean? Def made the most of herself.

Chardonnay is that the By Terry Ombré Blackstar? I bought mine a few weeks ago and I've not used anything else since, if I could marry an object it'll be my By Terry Ombré Blackstars!!!!
On another note I recently watched Trinny's video on you tube where she does one half of her make up with CT and the other half with Rosie for Autograph (they say it's CT dupe, rose gold, similar products etc) products, Trinny actually liked the Rosie stuff and preferred some of it!

That's interesting Buster. I have used both Rosie and CT lipsticks and would describe them as equally meh and drying!

The prices of By Terry always put me off but I do know a lot of people who RAVE about the products

And she came from nowhere! Was she a 'famous' make up artist?

No

Urban Decay quality is better at half the price for the amount of product you get compared to CT and the longevity is amazing eg have been using primer and eyeshadow daily for a year and still going strong!

I have a couple of her lipsticks and find them very dry.

I always laugh to myself at the sign in the JL concession of CT which says loved by ‘celebrities’ as if they are a different class of people distinct from the rest of us. Her whole brand seems to be built around marketing and pretty packaging as the products I’ve tried and feedback from others suggest it’s actually not very good compare to its competitors (which are also cheaper).

Lotta I really love be my Rosie lipsticks, I have one called Sour Grapes and the colour is so unusual and I find it pretty hard wearing and not drying at all. BUT I never wear them more than one day in a row (as I have 100s of lipsticks).
I'm obsessed with my By Terry cream eyeshadows....I literally carry them everywhere with me.

I'd read people raving on here about it

I think certain brands are very savvy about using MN to promote themselves via threads. Obviously I can't say for sure that CT is one of them, but some brands seem to get mention after mention, despite not being obviously better than their rivals. Yes, I'm looking at you Seasalt, Hush and CT. (Actually I think Seasalt is good quality, just very frumpy, but I also think they are savvy users of MN). The Hush threads are particularly interesting - apparently started by breathless fans, SO excited about the new collection, but then they quickly fill up with people complaining about the poor quality.

Just to add Lotta the Rosie eyeshadow sticks are a fab dupe. I have one of hers and it's almost as good, seriously not much in it!

100s of lipsticks Buster? Respect! I admire your commitment to the cause!

Since you're something of an expert, what do you think of Smashbox and NARS Audacious lipsticks? I have my eye on some from both brands

I loved the perfume in the shop but on my skin it smelled revolting. I love CT's bitch perfect and wonder glow, though.

Glittery, I know about Kat Von D. Jeffree Starr is much reviled round these parts but I don't know why - can you say more?

Beauty Pie does something similar looking to those By Terry ombré black stars. Very good as well.

I'll certainly take brand recommendations on MN now with a pinch of salt after buying such expensive crap. I also left scathing reviews on the website that disappeared, funnily enough................

My sister got me oneither of her mascaras. It's good. But not significantly different to maybelline. Love packaging though

Lotta not literally 100s, maybe 70!!! I haven't tried NARS as it's never caught my eye, so to speak but I do have 6 Smashbox ones, 4 matt and 2 normal (?) the matt are great but they do dry up a bit and give your lips a dry crispy look, I couldn't wear them day after day as I think my lips would shrivel up and die! The non matt ones are nice but I don't really reach for them as I do with some others. I'm not sure why, maybe it's the colours, or they just don't excite me as my others do!

BusterGonad · 12/12/2017 22:08

I do have 3 mini CT Matt lipsticks (GWP) and thought they were nice enough but I don't think I'd order a full price full size one, unless the colour was out standing!

It's Ombre Blackstar's little sister, it's something called Stylo Blackstar, Buster, it's more of a liner, great stuff.

Oh...thanks Chardonnay,** I'm not ready to betray my Blackstar just yet, we are still very much in the honeymoon period! 😂 but I'll bear it in mind! I've even dedicated a eyeshadow brush especially to blend my Blackstar out!!!

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 12/12/2017 22:18

It's not a betrayal, you'll keep it in the family. Grin
