Are Charlotte Tilbury products worth the ridiculously expensive cost?

For example, I absolutely look the look of the the Hollywood Contour Duo but bugger me it's £51. Ditto the lipstick trios - look gorgeous but £60 for three!

I love the perfume but I refused to pay that price for a plastic bottle (not even glass!)

I know she must be laughing all the way to the bank but is the quality of the make up really there?

Chardonnay 😂

She sleeps in makeup?? Eeeeooow.

Im stuck in the 90s. I still love Bobbi Brown

Dippingmytoesin-regarding Beauty Pie recs. I have a lot of their products and I’m disappointed with very few of them. I absolutely love the all in wonder face primer, lovely on its own, gives a gorgeous glow ( I use the lighter one). The wondercream eyeshadow sticks are fantastic, lovely colours, go on really easily and blend brilliantly, then I find they stay put all day. Am also a fan of the satin lipsticks, the colour knockout punch is fab, a really easy to wear nudey pink.
Have to say the skincare that I have tried is really, really impressive too.
The prices are amazing (even when paying £10 a month subs).

GeeLondon · 12/12/2017 23:10

^ and what don’t you like?

I find they over exaggerate rrp and don’t want to commit to subscriptions . For example they said the retinol products were £X rrp yet when I requested the % they are only as strong as LRP / indeed labs .

I’ve heard they have cleverly used MN too .

christmasqueries · 12/12/2017 23:23

I got Beauty Pie wrong; I thought you got £200 of stuff for the £10, but actually you have to pay the £10 to enable you to buy cheap things! Ha!

I have found a third company that use the same Italian factory to make the contour tubes as the CT ones so I will try to hunt down a cheap one of those!

Interesting about the glass bottle, they must have changed it. There were quite a few blogs complaining about the plastic last Christmas!

I love the lip pencils and I think the beauty palettes are great but I’m totally underwhelmed by the finishing powder, considering the price. I think I prefer my old MAC powder but for the price I paid I wish I’d gone for Chanel instead.

Loonoonow · 13/12/2017 01:52

I'm not a CT fan. Bought a few bits in Selfridges when it launched and it was all ok but not nice enough to finish it or repurchase. The Chameleon eyepencils were lovely but dried out and went scratchy within weeks, The wonder cream was overly scented, very heavy and make no discernible difference to my skin.
Mascara and lipsticks were ok but no better or worse than budget ranges.

AstridWhite · 13/12/2017 03:47

The prices of By Terry always put me off but I do know a lot of people who RAVE about the products

I once paid an absolutely exorbitant sum for a By Terry foundation because everyone kept raving about BT and I thought anything that expensive has got to be fantastic. How could you get away with charging it otherwise? It's not like it's Chanel.

It was terrible. Very thick, very heavy, made me look like a drag queen.

terfing · 13/12/2017 03:57

Is it tested on animals? Anyone know?

AccrualIntentions · 13/12/2017 04:12

The mascaras are shit. The pressed powder is nice but runs out really quickly. The lipsticks are a weird texture. Blushers good but not very unique. Eyeliners excellent - especially the rock n kohl navy blue one. Eyeshadow quads are convenient and lovely packaging but overpriced for what they are.

Hit and miss.

BusterGonad · 13/12/2017 06:37

Astrid many people love heavy foundations, I'm not one of them, but once again I'm not sure you can say all By Terry products are shit because you didn't rate the foundation. Did you not test it out first? Or tell the sales consultant what finish you like? I never purchase foundation without at least wearing it for one day. I've made too many expensive mistakes before!

AstridWhite · 13/12/2017 06:45

I did test it, yes, but not on my whole face obviously. I think it's much like choosing a paint colour by the swatch, or painting a small patch on the wall in the room where you will use it.

You can never be 100% sure of how it will look on a whole room, in all light conditions. It's just trial and error. Sometimes mistakes are made in spite of trying hard not to make them.

I had the BT version of Touche Eclat and I didn't rate that much either. It wasn't any better or worse really, but the colour was too pinky too blend seamlessly with my foundation colour, and it was more expensive than Touche Eclat IIRC.

AstridWhite · 13/12/2017 06:48

And didn't say all their products were shit. I can only speak for the ones I bought. They weren't shit exactly, just hugely overpriced and not all they were cracked up to be, in my opinion.

BusterGonad · 13/12/2017 07:08

I'm not having a go Astrid, honestly I'm just saying that foundations are very personal. I thought that Terry from BT was the person who worked at YSL and actually invented/designed the touché éclat! I'd love to try the BT version!

ihatethecold · 13/12/2017 07:09

I absolutely love the make up I have bought from the Autograph range at M & S.
the mascara primer in the white tube is amazing and the eyeshadow palette has very good staying power.
I wouldn’t usually consider m and s but it was on offer so I tried it.

BusterGonad · 13/12/2017 07:10

All I can say is blown away by the Ombré Blackstars, they are literally everything I want in a cream eyeshadow, colour density, do not crease, just the right type of sparkle, beautiful shades.....the list is endless and if far rather pay £££ for them then keep buying cheap counterparts that are shite!

BusterGonad · 13/12/2017 07:12

Ihate I've heard good things about the M&S Autograph range too. Next time I'm in there I'll check it out properly!

PhatSlag · 13/12/2017 07:13

HEMAN I really hope you like it! You do need a fat eye pencil sharpener with it too. Unfortunately it does wear down quite fast but then I wear eye make up every day.
Oh and also don’t put the lid on the end of the pencil while you apply it. I made that mistake with my first one when it was getting low and I couldn’t get the bloody thing off again and it dried out. Luckily there wasn’t a lot left but still gutting when it’s expensive.

Housewife2010 · 13/12/2017 07:19

I love cream eyeshadow sticks and have dozens. My favourites are By Terry Ombre Blackstars ( I will always have Misty Rock and Bronze Moon), Rosie for Autograph, Bobbi Brown, Beauty Pie (I love Goldie and Brazillionaire) and Laura Mercier ( Amethyst is gorgeous).

falange · 13/12/2017 07:25

I love the ct eye stuff that has a moisturiser thing at one end and a concealer/highlighter at the other. But it's 30 quid and I can't justify it. Is there anything similar out there that's cheaper?

Jerseysilkvelour · 13/12/2017 07:30

The compact powder is really, really good. Haven't been moved to try anything else as it's so expensive I'll be pissed off if it isn't that great! Mixed reviews here are putting me off more. There are other high end brands I'd rather spend my money on.

Brickshed7 · 13/12/2017 07:31

With regards to Beauty Pie I do agree re the rrp they have applied to the skincare especially and would be surprised if there are many (or any) non members who would be prepared to pay £100 for a night cream that isn’t branded. That said I do like the quality of the skincare I have and it appears effective so I will happily continue to pay the member prices.
With regards to what I don’t like, very little actually Smile. There is one foundation I’ve tried that I’m not too keen on (the retoucher one) and a powder highlighter that I used once but haven’t touched since because it doesn’t seem to highlight much. I haven’t tried any of the mascaras so cannot vouch for them but I have a makeup bag full of BP products and find I reach for it more often than any of the rest of my makeup (I honestly don’t work for the company, though I appreciate I sound like I might and I’m sorry I’ve hijacked a thread that is about CT makeup not Beauty Pie).

Japanese · 13/12/2017 07:39

I have a few CT products. Love the magic cream and pillow talk lipstick.

Have tried a couple of the chameleon eye pencils. I use them as an eye shadow when am wearing my glasses, the glass lens means it doesn't look quite as 'full on' as it doesn't blend that well. I also bought the CT pencil sharpener which seems to have helped a bit as each time I have totally finished the pencil before it had a chance to dry out. But it doesn't stay on my eyes - I need to reapply every few hours otherwise it fades to a pinky colour which makes me look as though I've been crying.

Lottapianos · 13/12/2017 07:44

Thanks Glittery. All I knew about Jeffree Starr is that he looks rather, um, alarming Shock
