insert, "chat" in that comment!

lasttimeround · 26/01/2018 10:01

My big sniff box finally arrived! Holding off trying any as I'm wearing a fair bit of youth dew bath oil - so cosy.

BluebellGal · 26/01/2018 10:21

SOTD 4160 Rhubarb and custard- which is probably a bit much for the office, however i needed something strong as I’m still pretty bunged up!

Calmwhoknows · 26/01/2018 12:29

MrsGruber, the 4160Tuesdays website has this description of Eat Flowers:

We were after a balanced blend of a whole bunch of flowers, so there are notes of roses, white flowers, lilies and in particular iris. Iris is our new favourite scent, and we've blended it with a woodsy base.

It is inspired by a 1960s Dutch poster we found at a fleamarket and that now hangs in our studio at the top of the stairs. Don't eat it, but do wear it.

MrsGruber · 26/01/2018 14:26

That sounds interesting Calm - can't think of other 4160's majoring with iris? (Guessing there is some in TKD?).

You're right OC. Flowers to all Smile.

(Perhaps, just in the spirit of social scientific experimentation, we should try a perfumista AIBU thread one day and see what happens...Grin). Or perhaps not....Grin)

MrsGruber · 26/01/2018 14:28

MrsR - I forgot to apply perfume today Shock so have squirted some Shazam! on now for comparison purposes. Will report back...

mrsreynolds · 26/01/2018 14:36

mrsg 😮😁
Is be interested to see if it's just my skin that canabalises scent 😔
Sotd was knowing
I'm planning a bath and next cashmere later...

Calmwhoknows · 26/01/2018 16:32

MrsGruber, I’ve never smelt Tart’s Knicker Drawer but have asked for a sample in my latest order. I know Flora Psychedelica has iris in it because Sarah McCartney said so in a comment on Facebook. It’s not listed as a note on Fragrantica, although orris root and carrot are there. Flora Psychedelica is one which I dismissed when I first smelt it. And I thought the longevity was poor. But it’s now on my “quiet beauty” list and is a real love. To me it is a bright herby rose geranium, almost fizzy, with other light florals and powder in the dry down. It’s not a strong perfume but it wafts around for hours, so very satisfying.

JanetStWalker · 26/01/2018 16:39

Shazam! and Centrepiece last pretty well on me, the others are a bit 'meh'. Think my love affair with 4160 is coming to an end, I've found a few that I love so it's not all bad.

In lashings of Fille en Aiguilles today, god I love this stuff such a perfect scent for the depths of winter. Someone hates it in here, explodingkitten maybe? Have you tried spraying it on clothes, some SL don't play well on my skin but are phenomenal on fabric.

MrsGruber · 26/01/2018 16:54

Calm FP was definitely my favourite from The Four Mysteries (if I'm remembering the collection title right?). Thought it was a really toothsome aromatic floral. Squirrel Gum fans in particular should try it. Never quite sure about mushroom notes, see also the Incredible Crimes of Passion. But I think its the idea rather the actual smell, as I like both perfumes very much.

BluebellGal · 26/01/2018 17:41

4160 are growers for me. Now I’ve got into them, I’m totally addicted to rhubarb and custard (and it’s components) and Silk lace and chocolate- really didn’t like any to start with.

Scense of smell is returning phew!

Where’s Kittens gone?!

MrsGruber · 26/01/2018 18:00

I was wondering that too, but I've just seen her post on The Big Sniff. Perhaps she'll be over in a bit?

teta · 26/01/2018 18:48

JanetStWalker Thank you so much for the lovely perfume pouch of Pure Distance White. I’m absolutely addicted to it and have worn it continually for the last few days until I ran out yesterday. Yours has arrived in the nick of time 🤗.
Wearing Dusita Siam de Douceur. It’s a Sandalwoody Rose with tropical flowers and is very pretty and easy to wear . I’m missing the uniqueness of Tobacco Rose though.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 26/01/2018 19:03

I've made it to today and now have 3 days off, with only a mountain of marking to blight it!

I'm not a 4160 fan at all, as you already know. Grin I am prepared to change my mind, and will no doubt try more samples once back on UK soil and not subject to extortionate postage, so you never know....I've not tried many, but not many of the descriptions have made me want to tbf. That said, London 1969 and Ealing Green are most definitely FB potential and the former is probably in my current all time Top 10. Lion Cupboard had a sour note I didn't care for, Doe in the Snow was like a white Christmassy yankee candle, and TKD and Paris 1948 were sweet mingy scrubbers on me. From all of your chat, I fancy trying Shazam, Rome and Eau my Soul. I'll let you all know in the summer!

Don't know if you remember, but a male (and veeeeeery gay) colleague smells divine and I've been trying to pluck up courage to ask him what it is...anyway a female colleague was talking about her favourite perfume (Eau de Rochas) and she said this guy wore her dh's scent and it was Declaration by Cartier. So now I know!

I have been in Opium/Shalimar all week, but went for Pp Infusions again today and vintage Givenchy III this evening.

I had fun (and imagined you lot imagining me) attempting to explain to Rochas colleague the Pink Minger concept. She was saying how the girls at school's perfumes give her headache.

JanetStWalker · 26/01/2018 19:06

teta, good timing indeed! It was one one many bonus samples scored from essenza-nobile.de/# They're based in Germany but highly recommend them, delivery is usually in 2-3 days, you get to choose 3 samples and they usually throw in lots of extra bits and bobs.

SotE is more Fille en Ainguilles (too lazy to check the spelling but reckon it's close enough Grin)

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 26/01/2018 19:23

Evening folks! The 4160s talk reminds me, has anyone read the I Scent You a Day workshop review? Sounded like so much fun - I really wish I could have made last year's trip. Smelling the individual components is really appealing because there are still lots of things I don't really know. Orris for example - not a clue what that smells of so would be difficult to identify in a blend!

SotD was ELDO Bedelierious. Worn for Violetday but very timely in light of the recent musings on marketing. I read the Fragrantica blurb and really... what utter nonsense!! It even does describe the smell but is such complete bobbins. With a creepy stalker and creepy taxi driver thrown in too. The scent itself is quite nice with bits of cherry and champagne thrown in but didn't last very long. The sample bottle didn't quite seen to have the full 1ml in either so will have to decide whether It's worth getting another sample and giving it another go or not...

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 26/01/2018 19:34

Ooh! I've just been on The Floral Street website and they've got an 8 x 1ml sample set for just £12. Depending on how I get on with the chypre on in The Big Sniff I might give that a go...

Judydreamsofhorses · 26/01/2018 19:37

SOTD is L’Air de Rien. We have a week of no classes this week because it’s the end of the semester, and today was a day off. We have been fir huge burgers and I had a massive lie-in. So good.

MrsGruber · 26/01/2018 20:13

MrsR - it's 6 hours in and it's still going strong! Sitting close to the body now but still a distinct and very satisfying slightly hippyish warming rounded amber/patchouli. Is your skin very dry?

mrsreynolds · 26/01/2018 20:17

No...quite the opposite!

MrsGruber · 26/01/2018 20:49

Interesting! Can feel another experiment coming on....

EliseC1965 · 26/01/2018 20:51

Can I join the scented ladies? I’ve been lurking for a bit, I’m a closet perfumista wannabe. Lol. I’ve been to some of the Perfume Society events to learn how to smell, but I’m still rubbish at identifying notes. I know what I like, but I’m not afraid to push boundaries. Never ever though will I try l’etat orange secretions again. Ugh!
I bought the Latest Launches twice, just to get the E Coudray Rose and Miller Harris’s again. Unfortunately there was no MH in my second box, so I rang them and I’ve come home to find that they’ve sent me the Catwalk Collection Smile
SOTD is (or was) Bloom. Not great longevity, but a ‘pleasant ‘ scent. Made me feel like giving a tinkly laugh.
I have a hidden scent collection that DH would probably kill me, if he found it. Think big Ikea box full stashed in the wardrobe, with gems such as Goldmund Dorrissima, ginestet byredo and Heeley bubblegum.
I adore huge florals and also masculine leathery scents, as well as coffee and rum. I was going to join the big Sniff, but ran out of pennies until Payday (oops)
I had to leave the fragrance group on Facebook as I kept buying splits and pre-loved scents. Too hard on my purse. Lol.

MrsGruber · 26/01/2018 20:59

Elise - welcome! Sounds like you've found your people - no 'wannabe' about it. 'Fraid this thread isn't that terribly easy on the purse either...

mrsreynolds · 26/01/2018 21:18

I start every month saying I'll be good...
😁

Motoko · 26/01/2018 21:35

I've just had a quick look on the site that JanetStWalker linked to, and have seen a perfume that piques my curiosity. It's Absolument Absinthe, has anyone tried it?
I think I'll have to do a sample order from there, but it'll have to wait a week or two, because I bought some candles today, as well as a small bottle of Next's Cashmere, which was a blind buy, as they didn't have a tester for it. As I've seen it mentioned on here, and it was only £4, I thought it was worth the risk.

SOTD was Black Opium. I wasn't overly enamoured with the opening, but I really like the drydown. Trouble is, it doesn't seem to last very long (is that the "sillage", ie it's longevity?).
