Welcome to the long-running perfume thread! All are welcome - drop in to chat about old loves or new discoveries. Ask a perfume question and someone here will know the answer.

Be warned though, we are a bunch of terrible enablers and you may wish to put your credit card in the freezer before entering Wink

The Perfume Society have confirmed a 20% discount for our synchronised sniff. So do we want to go with the Velvet one or Bloom box?

I think I’d probably prefer the Perfume Society box just because it has a range of niche to high street. Whereas the Bloom is just niche. Also, I’m quite keen to try the Ruth Mastenbroek and see what all the fuss is about Floral Street. It also contains chocolate Blush

Please vote with fingers ladies: Bloom or TPS!

BluebellGal · 09/01/2018 12:22

Also TPS were more engaged/ interested in our sniffing exercise and we might want to explore a separate sticky thread with Mumsnet?

OCSockOrphanage · 09/01/2018 12:41

That sounds interesting BluebellGal. I shall probably succumb!

explodingkittens · 09/01/2018 14:00

Very happy to go with TPS. Love the idea of a separate sticky for us - true clique/cult status beckons Grin

Haven't tried Petit Fracas - you're right I'm not a big fan of a vanillary sweetness but always happy to have my head turned!

TPS won't ship to me, so I'll have to bow out but please carry on without me, I'll enjoy reading your comments just as much!

Opium today as started headachey and wanted the warm spice. I think Arpege smells older than YD. Actually, the sticky cola element of YD is really quite modern if you think about it.

I think the half moon sweets were v definitely cherry lips!

MrsPestilence · 09/01/2018 14:14

My concern with TPS is everything is branded, I think we gained a lot from the blind sniffing. I'd like to see a combination of branded bottles and some that are labelled A, B, C with true identity in a sealed envelope.Could we try Chemical Poetry, Roullier White, Perfumista?

Would they be up for a custom box?
What do MN say about a sticky?
Will they be paying MN for the promotion?

CountFosco · 09/01/2018 18:33

Yes, now we have an offer we should speak to MN about advertising etc.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 09/01/2018 19:38

Just lost myself down a rabbit hole of retro sweet websites! Need to remember that I'm having a healthier month and don't need a jar of fizzers for my desk...

Happy with Bloom or TPS - whatever MNHQ think!

Judydreamsofhorses · 09/01/2018 20:13

SOTD is Chanel 19, for courage. I made it! What a difference between NHS treatment and private/specialist in terms of time and equipment. Three more lovely appointments to go...

I’m happy to do any box, but know I will be rubbish in terms of actual testing and giving any insights.

MrsMacNally · 09/01/2018 20:20

Floral Gums Floof? The sisters of Cherry Lips, also made by Squirrel.

Thanks for making progress on our behalf Bluebell - very excited.

No fizz in any of my Youth Dew - all vintage though so perhaps it's gone flat Sad?

MrsSchadenfreude · 09/01/2018 20:25

I loved Cinnabar in my yoof. SOTD here has been Olbas Oil for the past few weeks. Unable to smell anything much.

mrsreynolds · 09/01/2018 20:27

I think insolence is full on Palma violets...sorry! 😁 my year old niece adores it

I can't help butnthink of fizzy cola bottle sweets when I see youth dew (my mum wears it)
Not a bad thing imo although not to everyone's taste 😁

mrsreynolds · 09/01/2018 20:49

6 year old niece

BluebellGal · 09/01/2018 23:22

Hmmm Parma Violets mrsreynolds I love Kenzo Flower for this reason- also like Insolence but only tested once in a Perfume Hall.

I’ve emailed mumsnet HQ about what I’m now calling The Big Sniff and TPS offer. Other name suggestions welcome of course!

I know what you mean Pest about branding, but I think that given some comments about finding notes difficult to identify, the smelling notes that come included could be useful for some people (myself included). It would be good to make this as widely accessible so lots of people join in and the lower price point helps. We may even get some new recruits if we get a sticky!

BluebellGal · 09/01/2018 23:34

Here is the Velvet Collection box, it’s £19 so £15.20 with 20% discount

lasttimeround · 10/01/2018 06:58

Thanks for arranging the big sniff Bluebell. I'm in.

GlovesAndHatsAndFloofyCats · 10/01/2018 09:29

FLORAL GUMS! I love you MrsMac Grin I knew someone here would know what I meant and that DH was wrong I still like the Insolence but can't help but think that the Perfume Parlour Parma Violets that I bought for DD smells pretty much exactly the same at 10% of the cost...

Bluebell I Grined at The Big Sniff - what an excellent name. I shall cheer from the sidelines and admire everyones' expertise.

SOTD is Insolence aka Floral Gums and Olbas Oil here too. I love Olbas Oil. One of my DCs is an extremely snuffly sleeper anyway so I might try some on his pillow also.

mrsreynolds · 10/01/2018 11:24

Morning
Sotd is knowing
But!! My PP order arrived (cinnabar and opium) and it's the first time with PP that I have a positive reaction 😁
Opium dupe is pretty good imo...hasn't got the depth of the original but it's lovely
The cinnabar is too sweet as piam said. Still a nice scent though.
So once my knowing has run out I will be investing in that and must de cartier 😁

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 10/01/2018 11:27

have ordered Guerlain Chant d'Aromes and Shalimar, haven't tried either of them before so both blind buys! they were pretty cheap considering , it was under £70 for the both of them so happy to have done a blind buy for them!

BluebellGal · 10/01/2018 11:53
