Hi Princess - the Michael Edwards Fragrance Finder suggests you should look at NR Fleur Musc, or Tiffany EDP?

princessbear80 · 31/12/2017 09:17

Thanks for your suggestions will look into those!

mrsreynolds · 31/12/2017 09:31

Princess...I love NR poudree myself 😁

Have you tried agent provocateur?

MrsMacNally · 31/12/2017 10:18

SotD is Mito (another from the LT Bloom pack). Huge but sheer floral green chypre. The whoosh of citrus, moss and cypress notes at the start make this smell like a cousin of Eau du Sud. But this is a little more floral (still in a green stems sort of way). Very lovely. Eau du Sud fans should seek it out...

BluebellGal · 31/12/2017 12:20

SOTD is Miller Harris Ètui Noir layered with E Coudray Rose Tuberose

Mito sounds good mrsmacnally

MrsMacNally · 31/12/2017 13:07

It is good - sort of a Silences Vs EdS lovechild. Great hyacinth note in amongst the green. And the invigorating citrus/moss opening is gorgeous. Needs to be won on a luminous mid-summer day.

MrsMacNally · 31/12/2017 13:08

*worn even.

explodingkittens · 31/12/2017 13:28

Oh am quite jealous of the Etui Noir @bluebell. However after going a bit bonkers in the sales and paying out for our summer holiday all in this week eeek I'm definitely in line for a no-spend January!

SOTD is D.S & Durga Debaser. Hmmm. I have been dying to try this for ages, as a huge Pixies fan. More fool me Grin. I was hoping for something a bit dirty and rock'n'roll - however it's basically Philosykos. And don't get me wrong, I adore Philosykos but a) Diptyque does it perfectly well already and b) I wanted sweatbox moshpit bourbon and filth!

Should've paid more attention to the fragrance notes...

Thank you kittens I now have a total ear worm! Not heard that for years!

Princess I'm no expert but I was going to say Agent Provocateur too. Or have an eBay search alert set up - discontinued stuff often pops up on there?

Thank you bluebell I will have a peek in Lush for that bar. I have loved Lush since they were Cosmetics To Go, but the prices are a bit eye watering for me these days. I tend to buy bombs for the DC as a treat if I can!

I have finally made it to TK Maxx and it was a bit shit, our local store seems to be a load of clothes straggling on the floor, and not much else. The only item of note was Miller Harris Rose en Noir for £24.99 which I didn't stretch to. I did buy a gorgeous Stila lipstick though (Bonbon, £6. Bargain.)

PIAM have a fab time in London and tell us what you buy Wink and everyone else, have a lovely fragrant and very happy NYE too.

I imagine you all looking very glamorous at NYE parties and smelling wonderful! I do smell wonderful myself (spicy gorgeous vintage Obsession) but am in my snuggliest nightie and floofiest socks, about to eat a Chinese takeaway in bed GrinOn duty for possible taxi duty for a couple of DC (I feel simultaneously elderly, slightly jealous and very terrified that they are old enough to be out partying). I am looking forward though, to feeling thankful for my sobriety tomorrow morning and possibly a trifle smug Wink

2018! I have very much enjoyed my perfume fun this year, and being guided by the expertise and camaraderie of this thread. It is indeed a lovely friendly thread! Wineor Brew for all!

PerfumeIsAMessage · 31/12/2017 18:14

Just having a lie down before a shower and heading up into town for the fireworks. We have done Oxford St very thoroughly and you all need to run to Superdrug and purchase the Bloom set of 3 purse sprays if only because a) it's £3.99 (!!) and b) the mandarin and lime basil is amazing and a trillion times nicer than anything JM has ever knocked out. Also dithered over the Fragonard Iris in M&S and the Roger and Gallet Gingembre.
Spent a fortune in Lush, didn't get the Shalimary shampoo but did get loads more, some bubble bars and a therapy massage bar, causing the assistant too oooh and aaaah when I told her the last one I had was when the 14 yr old next to me was inside me and is the reason I believe I have no stretch marks.

A Silences and EauduSud lovechild sounds just up my street, so will look out for that!

Here's to a fragrant 2018 for all of us!

Judydreamsofhorses · 31/12/2017 18:42

SOTD is MMM Fireplace, which DP just said very politely was “not his favourite”. Hmm. We’ve been out for big burgers and I am now in pyjamas waiting to eat all the cheese.

piam am well jel of your London shopping. Hope you and your daughter have a lovely time tonight.

Happy 2018 when it comes, everyone! 2017 has been a stinker here and I am so pleased to see the back of it.

BluebellGal · 31/12/2017 18:50

Have been out for burgers and milkshakes with DD. Now heading to friends house party (with DD as she has kindly put a bed up for her). Despite only being a five minute walk and the prospect of a lovely glass of wine, I’m struggling to peel myself off the sofa Grin Hmmm what to wear? I’ve been enjoying the Etui Noir and Rose Tuberose layering today, so may well top that up! It is wonderful kittens if you can stretch to that perfume Society box in late Jan. must be the time of year for booking summer holidays - just been thinking about ours and talking to other people who are booking to theirs. I do feel that I should be saving though and may give holiday a miss in favour of staycationing! X

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 31/12/2017 19:44

Evening lovelies!

Ooh PIAM sounds like a very fun afternoon!! And a bit jealous of you and Bluebell heading out. Another new year in for us!

Burgers on NYE clearly need to be on the ever growing Venn diagram since that's what we've done too. And a festove miracle occured too. Having been distinctly unimpressed with the Guerlain stands, we dropped into House of Fraser after burgers just in case. The is the House of Fraser in the very next town to us which I'd not bothered trying since it's so small. And it has all of the them!! Just there, not even tucked up in a draw in anything!!!

SotD first thing was Tart's Knicker Drawer. Nicest I've ever smelt it - I think the cold weather makes it a bit fizzier. And if course that had to be ditched for a Guerlain in the afternoon. Went for Apres L'Ondee. Not quite as taken with it as Vol De Nuit, which I didn't find quite as spicy, but still has the violettly guerlainade-y goodness I love.

Happy New year everyone. May the bad times bugger off and 2018 be just what we need it to be Wine

PerfumeIsAMessage · 31/12/2017 20:55

Haha, I just had a double cheese and bacon burger in the hotel restaurant and we are now bundling up.

I have already booked Menorca again, but dd told me she'd like to go somewhere different. Humph. I dithered between Menorca and Portugal in October and clearly ought to have booked the latter.

I am in Opium btw.

CountFosco · 31/12/2017 23:15

Not posted for a few days. Overlayed my last ACD with Jicky which, shock horror, I liked. Never thought Lavender could smell so modern and unisex. Will have to try it again and Shalimar is my next Guerlain tester I think (I also have a small HoF with a good selection of Guerlain).

Latest ACD scents:

Tobacco Nuit. Tobacco flower, clementine, labdanum. I got leather (?) then incense. Not fussed (I'm beginning to realise I don't care for leather or woody smells).

Mandarine Glaciale. Mandarin, ginger, vetiver. Two of my favourite notes. Think this is one of my favourite of the AC citrus scents.

And today: Sud Magnolia. Magnolia, bitter orange and saffron flower. This gets a lot of love and I can see why. Spicy orange with a fresh floral (smells like rose??). Couldn't stop sniffing myself.

Beginning to think I'm not going to be able to chose just one AC with my money off voucher.

CountFosco · 31/12/2017 23:32

Anyway, while the kids watch their film lets talk sample sets. What's the situation with TPS, do they ship to Italy for PIAM?? Bloom do. Does anyone else have a preference for the sample set? Anyone want to email bloom to ask about a discount? Or MN to see about a sticky?

CountFosco · 31/12/2017 23:36

Oh, and homemade pizza here for Hogmanay. Here's to another year of lovely perfumes (and no teeth problems) and thanks to all on this thread for being so lovely and friendly and welcoming.

MrsMacNally · 01/01/2018 00:40

Happy New Year Everyone! Wine Here's to a fragrant and fun-filled 2018.

Methenyouplus4 · 01/01/2018 10:00

Good morning and Happy 2018. First time posting on the perfume thread.

I have a couple of child free days coming up (rare!) where I am going rl shopping. I would like to explore and find a perfume I love, one to hopefully become a signature scent I can wear daily.

Firstly, I don't want anything where the company/ parent company test on animals.

Beyond that criteria, I'm afraid I'm not very knowledgeable on scent but like something where the scent lasts a long time. In the past, I had Moschiono 'Funny' which I really liked. I prefer unusual scents rather than obviously floral/musky smells.

Any ideas where to start?

Methenyouplus4 · 01/01/2018 10:03

Forgot to add, I was curious about the Lush perfumes- any thoughts/ anyone tried them?

PerfumeIsAMessage · 01/01/2018 10:21

Welcome!

I tried lots of Lush scents yesterday but didn't like any other than good old Karma. Strange because I love the smell of everything in the place but I don't think they can quite do perfume somehow.Dirty was quite nice, but most of them had me going "eeeew"
Am.not sure about which perfume houses test on animals, sorry.

Methenyouplus4 · 01/01/2018 10:47

Stella McCartney, Prada and Clinique are all cruelty free- any particular perfumes from those recommended? I've smelt Clinique Happy and was too sickly sweet for me.

Methenyouplus4 · 01/01/2018 10:47

Perfume- did you find with the Lush perfumes lasted well on you?

MrsMacNally · 01/01/2018 11:49

Hello Methen.

There is a lot of love here for this small London-based perfume house that produces interesting and affordable scents and is generally very thoughtful about ethical practice (just email them on your testing question):4160Tuesdays

Best of all they sell samples and 9ml bottles. (A lot of us here have abandoned big bottle monogamy...).

Just let us know more about the smells you like, and things you've worn before, and we can make suggestions.

A real life perfume smelling trip sounds lots of fun can we come too?. Just in terms of likely choices and possible things to seek out, are you in London or a major city?

MrsMacNally · 01/01/2018 12:04

Missed a trick last night - should've worn today's SotD: Bogue's Maai. Another from the Bloom LT sample set. This is a huge vintage-inspired shape-shifting diva. The great man describes this as, "a big-boned, animalic woody chypre seemingly laden with every magnificent material we knew and loved". Has the drama, scale and ambition of Theo Fennell's Scent, without the hard to wear cumin. (I'd swap in a heartbeat).
