The only alcohol left for yesterday's trifle, after a boozy run with Xmas cake, Xmas pudding and mincemeat, was a village-produced pomegranate raki. The sort that has you fearing for your eyesight. Fraid this took its toll in yesterday's posts Blush.

SOTD Xmas Grin Serge Lutens fille en aiguilles Xmas Grin

Applied after a lovely snowy walk, I love it - very like Heeley Tigre but a bit sweeter - What do you hate so much about it kittens?

explodingkittens · 29/12/2017 15:39

Oh, so pleased it arrived! I just found it incredibly hard to wear - it smelled like pine loo cleaner on me. But am very happy it's gone to a good home Grin

No SOTD today yet as am incredibly hungover after dinner at a friend's house last night which involved several bottles of prosecco and 2am kitchen dancing...

Trying to gather the strength for the 90-min drive to another party tonight; we're staying over this time and hopefully it'll be a little more restrained Grin

Might have to dig out something interesting - the host is a bit of a perfumista himself!

SotD is Angela Ciampagna's Liquo. Licorice and hay with a touch of vetiver. Aromatic in a deep, soothing sort of way. Natural smelling but incredibly smooth and well-balanced. Lovely (again)...

mrsreynolds · 29/12/2017 20:32

I'm doused in next cashmere for bed

Judydreamsofhorses · 29/12/2017 20:54

SOT(pyjama)D is Narciso Rodriguez For Her.

Thanks for all the tooth sympathy. floofy I have already had RCT on the lower tooth from my NHS dentist, which obviously hasn’t worked properly - she didn’t get right to the apex of the roots so there is, I think, infection in there as the gum keeps swelling up. So it needs a re-treat. The top one could be done on the NHS, but it has an extra root - mutant - and the roots are long and twisty. When I asked if she would have a specialist do it if it was her tooth, she said yes, so I am going with that. These guys only do root canals and have had years of extra training, plus super-powerful microscopes which a regular dentist doesn’t. Hence the super-powerful cost!

What’s everyone doing for Hogmanay? We tend to go out for lunch, then have cheese/party food and wine (I hate champagne, cheap date) at home at night.

BluebellGal · 29/12/2017 21:36

Ouch Judy - on both the tooth and treatment cost fronts!

SOTD yesterday was Next Cashmere- my favourite new discovery thanks to mrsreynolds a perfect musk

SOTD today was 4160 creamy vanilla crumble - for cuddling up on sofa under blanket watching The Crown.

mrsreynolds · 29/12/2017 21:40

👍

PerfumeIsAMessage · 29/12/2017 21:52

Dd and I are flying to London for 3 days tomorrow, fireworks tickets safely packed.

I aim to spend a lot in Lush. I know Lush is marmitey but I love their stuff.

My perfume resolution is to continue building up my perfume memory box, source more 70s soaps etc.

I considered giving 4160 another try and had a mooch round their website but only Shazam sounded like me. They could do with someone titivating their website as well, it's a nightmare to navigate.

No Sotd as am headachy.

mrsreynolds · 29/12/2017 22:02

Have a great time piam

I adore lush too 😁 was their half price sale so I stocked up on weds 👍

Shazam is also the only 4610 that sounds like "me"....must get some in 2018

Fragrant goals for 2018;

Get some cinnabar - poss PP?
Must de cartier - ditto
Demeter baby powder
Shazam

BluebellGal · 30/12/2017 10:21

Floofy the Lush shampoo bar which reminds me of Shalimar is called ‘Soak and Float’. I used to buy from Lush as a teen in the 90s, but it isn’t on my radar nowadays. I did fry the perfumes recently- interesting but they weren’t for me. After the success of this shampoo I might give the rest of their range a go.

Motoko · 30/12/2017 11:30

Ooh, there's a programme on Radio 4 about perfume. It's called Making Scents: The Story of Perfume, and has Luca Turin, Lizzie Ostrom, and Thomas Fontaine on it.

Here's the link.

I'll have to listen to it properly later, as I wasn't taking much notice of what was being talked about until the word 'perfume' filtered through to my brain!

mrsreynolds · 30/12/2017 11:53

Oh! That's the shampoo bar ds1 uses....cant say it reminds me of shalimar but I seem to be nose blind when it comes to guerlain😔

I use one called daddy o which smells of Parma violets - you could team that up with apres l ondee? Or insolence?

I adore their twilight products- lavender and Tonka bean. Yum yum.
Their butterball is a delicious vanilla and cocoa butter confection ❤

I'm in next cashmere again today. Powdery loveliness

BluebellGal · 30/12/2017 12:21

SOTD Miller Harris Noix de Tubereuse

MrsMacNally · 30/12/2017 15:17

Cheapish thrill from TK Maxx alert: Weil's Suki Essence (£16 for 100ml EDP). This is, on first sniff, an interesting plummy incense with Tauer-esque amber and cistus notes underneath. Will report back later after a longer wear....

Judydreamsofhorses · 30/12/2017 19:24

SoTD Tauer LDDM. Another lazy day here, but toothache means I have list 3lb this week - a Christmas miracle. Since this all started I have gone from a 10/12 to an 8/10. Every cloud and all that.

explodingkittens · 30/12/2017 20:10

LADDM here today as well Smile

Really really hope you're able to get that blasted tooth sorted @judy. It just sounds like a nightmare. Still, as you say, every cloud and all that!

NYE will be a quietish one - my dbro and his family are coming to stay so we'll cook and have a few drinks, but I rarely make it to midnight these days! Am saving my energies for a Burns Supper later in the month...that often ends up quite messy...

Got no perfume for Xmas Sad but did get a couple of Mon Guerlain samples today Grin. (I know I keep going on about but want to be sure before commit)

princessbear80 · 31/12/2017 00:01

Hello, I’m hoping you can help me track down an alternative to my much loved Narcisco Rodriguez Essence perfume. I was given one for my birthday years ago. Saved it for special occasions and it’s now run out. Internet search shows it was a 2009 limited edition. It had rose, iris, amber and musk. Any help much appreciated! Thank you

MrsMacNally · 31/12/2017 00:03

Thanks for the link Motoko - will enjoy listening to that.

Yes, the Suki Essence, has been a very successful blind buy (just as well as I bust my £12.99 limit). It's a very nice cistus-heavy amber with a hint of vanilla. It's not overpowering and wears quite close to the skin - so a lovely warming winter scent that wouldn't be out of place in the daytime.

SwedishEdith · 31/12/2017 00:12

I'm absolutely no expert princess but maybe check out Tresor or Shalimar?

BluebellGal · 31/12/2017 00:13

Just popping onto the thread to suggest E Coudray Iris Rose to princessbear it’s one of my favourites and is much cheaper than NR. I can’t say they smell similar as I haven’t smelt the limited edition but I do love all NR perfumes (they do fab musks) and the Iris Rose is one of my favourites Smile

SwedishEdith · 31/12/2017 00:16

And looking on Fragantica, White Linen crops up a lot.

BluebellGal · 31/12/2017 00:21
