Welcome to the long-running perfume thread! All are welcome - drop in to chat about old loves or new discoveries. Ask a perfume question and someone here will know the answer.

Be warned though, we are a bunch of terrible enablers and you may wish to put your credit card in the freezer before entering Wink

Welcome Miff -'fraid I don't. I have the Fig Spash but have oodles left. Think Pest has the Cucumber and may have ideas?

PiaM - how about Santal Royal? I'm always impressed when I sniff. (Bit like Coromandel; smells luxe). I sniffed Twilly and was pleasantly surprised. More interesting than Gabrielle.

Speaking of Coromandel EK, if it's an enormous bottle aren't you tempted to nip into the bathroom with a Travalo each time you visit? sort of like The Great Escape trouser thing but for perfumistas? Grin

Nothing very exciting in TK Maxx here I'm afraid MrsS, although I could be tempted by several of the Miler Harris' if they go into clearance.

SwedishEdith · 22/12/2017 18:12

MrsPestilence - I've got a feeling I'm not very sophisticated. It smelt tobacco-y and vanilla-y on me. And seemed to last ages. I was wearing Loilita Lempika when I first tested it (I suspect that's a pink minger as well?) so maybe it was the combination of the two.

MrsPestilence · 22/12/2017 18:22

I'm a grapefruit splash person MrsM I have got DH the Miller Harris Le Pamplemousse for Christmas to stop him stealing the last of my bottle. The MH has rhubarb in so will smell like BO on me Sad

I thought this thread enabled purchasing with a vengeance, it is surpassing itself at encouraging acquisition by other means. Grin Kittens just ask, she will probably be flattered and let you have a squirt travalo

Miffy they are seasonal specials, some had a second outing. Rain, cucumber and basil. We want Grapefruit for 2018 or maybe 2019 as big companies move rather slowly.

MrsMacNally · 22/12/2017 18:26

Sorry...that talk a while to post. Did I get the Cucumber wrong Pest?

It's day 22 of the advent calendar and it's.....Centrepiece. This is a fabulous Xmas-time gourmand to wear with soft cashmere sweaters or our negligees fleecey pyjamas. Frangipani, tea, honey and musk. I'm not usually that much of a fan of sweet, vanillary things, but this is tremendous. I have the remains of a 9ml which I managed to smash on receipt, so it's nice to have a little more.

MrsMacNally · 22/12/2017 18:34

That's a Luca Turin 5* Edith - so absolutely no minging involved in any hue.

MrsMacNally · 22/12/2017 18:39

*took. And apologies for the time lag... feels like I'm joining you via a dodgy satellite link with a delay on the line tonight Grin.

MrsPestilence · 22/12/2017 19:36

Ground control to MrsM it is like old fashioned Eurovision Grin

Swedish scents smell different on all of us.
Sweet scents turn cloyingly sickly on me, may be due to getting older. Rhubarb, so yummy in food so fresh and sharp on a paper strip turns to BO on me. Theo Fennell Scent notorious for BO and stale wee aromas on some, is a rich spicy rose on me. Trust your nose, it is the one that matters.
Also always try and nab a sample take a travalo, so you can check what it smells like in two / four hours time.

explodingkittens · 22/12/2017 20:02

Listen to you lot, enabling not just purchases but outright theft Grin Grin I'll bring a travalo next time

You're right @MrsP, she probably would be flattered but I feel a bit cheeky that I was opening bathroom cabinets in the first place!

Centrepiece sounds lovely.

Piam how about Prada? They must be widely available in Italy. I like most of the Prada offerings- except Candy & its flankers. I have the new femme Intense and that’s pretty good.

My favourite are the Prada Infusions series. By coincidence SOTD is Prada Infusions Amande- it’s almonds, florals and musk with a bit of Tonka bean. D’Iris Cedre is another in the range, which is gorgeous woody Iris with a bit of soapiness

PerfumeIsAMessage · 22/12/2017 21:15

Oh yes, I'd forgotten Prada! I have PP Infusions d‘Iris but I'll add the real thing to my list! Iris Cedre sounds nice as well.

OCSockOrphanage · 22/12/2017 21:17

The PP Iris Cedre is as good as the original. It's in heavy rotation here.

Judydreamsofhorses · 22/12/2017 22:24

Made it! Furious as the principal said everyone could leave at 1, except staff timetabled to teach in the afternoon. Which, obviously, was me. A weird thing happened - a student gave me a bottle of perfume and a red lipstick (which is what I always wear) as a gift. I didn’t realise what was in the bag until she’d gone, but will have to return it to her because while a gift of that value where a class has clubbed together is fine, from an individual person it contravenes the “bribery and corruption” policy. I feel so bad for her, but it was Guerlain PRN, so hey ho.

Anyway, SOTD was FM Hiver, but now in pyjamas and JM Wood Sage.

MrsPestilence · 22/12/2017 22:29

Blimey Judy that is some teacher gift. Shock

Judydreamsofhorses · 22/12/2017 22:43

I know, mrsP. I tend to do pretty well gift-wise as all my teaching is with the same groups, and they are adults, not kids, but, gosh. My best ever present was an amazing Tatty Devine necklace of a red lipstick, plus a bottle of gin, from a class a couple of years back. Yesterday’s hamper was pretty epic, so thoughtful.

MrsMacNally · 22/12/2017 22:55

Votes of the Luxembourg jury coming in Pest! (So envious you don't get the skanky cumin blast with Scent...).

Speaking of Eurovision, we could have some synchronized voting in 2018? On a Saturday evening...We could all agree what to try and sniff out earlier on Saturday afternoon, and then post our ratings simultaneously Grin.

Judydreamsofhorses · 22/12/2017 23:01

I thought you meant voting on actual Eurovision, mrsm and was SO excited.

MrsPestilence · 22/12/2017 23:23

It is still skanky MrsM but in a warm knickers on the chandelier way rather than three day old continence pads.

MrsMacNally · 22/12/2017 23:49

We could do that too Judy Smile.

MrsPestilence · 22/12/2017 23:52

Do you think the Perfumistas could declare themselves a virtual country, join Europe and get the right to vote in the Eurovision? What colour passports would we have?

MrsMacNally · 23/12/2017 01:21

Not sure Pest, but they would need to be scratch 'n' sniff.

Motoko · 23/12/2017 01:37

What colour passports would we have?

I vote for purple, because in days of old, purple dye was rare and expensive, much like perfumes.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 23/12/2017 07:51

Ooh, I got all excited about Mans Zelmerlow actual Eurovision voting too then!! Blush

Yesterday's ACAC offering was a miniature of Vanille Insensee so I went for the dabbwr I already had. Better than the first time but still not convinced...

But then my 4160s Captured by Candlelight arrived (anyone else had an e-mail from them this week about orders not arriving?) So had a good squirt - it's amazing!! Also got a free sample of Eau My Soul- very very excited!!

MrsPestilence · 23/12/2017 09:00

Purple is excellent Moto, it also has the history of Perkin's mauve replacing the snail derived tyrian. Naturals vs synthetics is very relevant to perfumes. Sarah's take on naturals vs synthetics (and the OML range) when face to face was fascinating.

Talking of 4160, they have been in Japan this week, so the studio will be under manned.

Scratch and sniff definitely MrsM Grin

explodingkittens · 23/12/2017 09:02

'Warm knickers on the chandelier' Grin

Think we've found our next thread title!

ACD SotD Encens Jinhae. Incense, lemon and cherry blossom. Nice but not wow although suspect it will be a grower. Yesterday was Camelia Intrepide (camelia, lemon and violet) and the day before Emeraude Agar (agar wood, bergamot and geranium). Both too woody for me.

Went to our friend's house for drinks yesterday and drank too much (she brought out a bottle Cloudy Bay (££) after hours of drinking so obviously I had to drink half the bottle taste it. Had to get up at 7am to get the house ready for ILs arriving, my head was killing me. Hurray for our lovely local patisserie who made our lunch because I was in fit state. And MIL who bought tons of lovely food for us.

Still have mountains of presents to wrap and final food shop tomorrow but hiding upstairs pretending to wrap presents while nursing my hangover.
