Talk me out of buying a Gucci handbag please!

I’ve been coveting a Gucci soho disco bag in black for as long as it’s been around! Have just been given some unexpected birthday money to make it happen.

However, just a few days ago i had talked myself into the Fossil Campbell crossbody in black instead and was going to buy at the weekend. What do i do? Buy the Fossil and pocket the cash for lots of other nice things or get the Gucci? HELP!

You have the funds so listen to your heart instead of your head in this case. It's worth spending a bit more on something that you'll use and appreciate everyday, much preferred to tolerating the existence of something you only somewhat like IMO.

Were you given the money especially for the bag? In which case would the giver be a bit peeved that you'd kept most of the cash and bought a cheaper one?

I was given the money by my dad and i think he would be horrified i’d spent it on only one item! He doesn’t have to know though....

I disagree, the Gucci Disco is over in fashion terms and then it has the problem of being a very recognisable bag.

If you want the Gucci then buy the Gucci, you’ll only regret it otherwise!!

For all I can see it’s just a bag...what is so amazing about it? I’m not a big fan of bags, so maybe I’m missing the point, but I think the big Gs on the bag look a bit trashy and ‘look how much money I’ve got’ which is probably not the intent at all.

If you’d want to meet in the middle. Look at Whistles or All Saints bags.

Just glanced at Whistles. There’s at least 3 nice, black cross bodies, v nice and much cheaper.

It's a bag. It'll end up on the floor beneath your desk, under restaurant tables, in the foot well of your car.

It’s been around for ages so that would put me off it. Also, it’s just a plain little bag with a ginormous logo so not sure what’s so appealing. Other than the fact is instantly recognisable and people will immediately know that it’s cost a lot.
If it’s a special birthday and you got a chunk of money from your dad, I’d probably get a nice bit of jewellery or a Swiss watch.

Well I bought my dd a disco bag in red as a birthday present about 18 months ago and she uses it all the time. She says it is the perfect size, still looks pristine and the colour is surprisingly versatile .

I’m so confused! I have one other designer bag (Mulberry Alexa) which i still love and have used a lot in the 7 years i’ve had it. Looked in Whistles and at lots of other similar style bags recently but none of them get me excited. This does seem like a lot of money for what it is though.

Hmm so I had a similar dilemma years ago, Mulberry Roxanne or alternative lovely but cheaper bag. I went for the cheaper one and loved it and used it for a long time BUT I still regret not getting the Mulberry bag and this was ten years ago! I still want a Roxanne even though they don't make them any more and if I had one I would still be using it now.

It like the time I wanted a pair of velvet YSL shoes I had the money but got a much cheaper version from office. This was about 10 years ago or more. I regret this every day. Please please get the Gucci bag.
