Talk me out of buying a Gucci handbag please!

I’ve been coveting a Gucci soho disco bag in black for as long as it’s been around! Have just been given some unexpected birthday money to make it happen.

However, just a few days ago i had talked myself into the Fossil Campbell crossbody in black instead and was going to buy at the weekend. What do i do? Buy the Fossil and pocket the cash for lots of other nice things or get the Gucci? HELP!

Depends if you can afford it. I've heard about bag rental schemes. Could you try one out for a while. But it could be a bit of a faff. You may get a discount in the black Friday sales?

MistressDeeCee · 17/11/2017 00:04

Gucci, no contest

ZaraW · 17/11/2017 06:07

It's nice but it looks a bit dated I would buy something else.

ginandnappies · 17/11/2017 06:26

Gucci Gucci Gucci

IrisMumToBe · 17/11/2017 06:32

Nothing wrong buying a Gucci especially if you have the cash but nowadays you have to be practical enough about things especially with money. You buy something for it's value, worth and use and not for it's signature brand alone. It's your choice. :)

yasmin05 · 17/11/2017 07:01

If I decide to buy that i'd make sure it's not only the brand that I'm buying but also because I love the design and usability. If you want something that spells durability, there are a lot out there that's a lot cheaper but equally attractive.

Whatsthekey1 · 17/11/2017 09:52

Thanks for all the advice. I’ve decided to go for it. I’ve been thinking about it for too long not too and it’s not every day i receive such a generous amount of cash. My Mulberry was a 30th birthday present and it’s probably the only gift i still use regularly. Now to see if i can get it duty free....

Good decision! Definitely worth seeing if you can get it duty free or if there are any deals on.
Harrods have 10% off if you sign up for their rewards card and Farfetch have 10% off your first order. Also, if you have an American express credit card, they sometimes have cash back deals.

SinglePringle · 17/11/2017 11:14

Gucci vs Fossil 😂! It’s like Michelin Starred vs McDonalds!

Whilst I think that particular Gucci bag is a bit TOWIE, I would definitely spend the money on the best range I could afford.

Buy the bag you love!

CJCreggsGoldfish · 17/11/2017 11:18

Get the Gucci!!! Make sure you get the use out of it. I bought a Mulberry Roxanne back in the day, and was too scared to use it, then it inevitably went out of fashion. I do still use it now and then, but it just hasn't had the wear it should. I've never made that mistake again.

Clickncollect · 17/11/2017 11:30

Just had a look at my American Express and their offer is spend £200 in Gucci and get £50 credited to Amex card - you have to save the offer to your card first though

Nettletheelf · 17/11/2017 11:43

If you want the posh bag, get it, but that Disco bag has been ruined for me by the knowledge that several of the real housewives of Cheshire have got it!

Helena17 · 17/11/2017 12:18

In today's time you gotta be wise. Sometimes the right decisions aren't always the easiest but in the long run you'll be happy you did the right one. My take on this is simple, if it's too expensive then it should be very very useful.

mrsincognito · 17/11/2017 13:11

Gucci!

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 17/11/2017 17:02

I think that when you really have your heart sey on something, a cheaper substitute won't satisfy you and you will always have that little niggle of regret if you don't go for it.
I think it is lovely btw. Would be very tempted to get it in red.

AmeliaFlashtart · 17/11/2017 18:00

Now and then you come across something you really covet. If you've been thinking about it for ages and still want it, have the money spare without going into debt then indulge. The Fossil bag and other things are not going to scratch that itch and you will get immense pleasure out of something you've wanted for so long.

Girlsworld92 · 18/11/2017 10:00

I love Mulberry bags. I currently own 6 and have one going under the xmas tree. I only buy from outlets/second hand or if I’ve been wanting one for ages. If you love it and will use it get it x

Gonegrey31 · 18/11/2017 11:38

This weekend there is 10% off in Harrods (online and in store) if you sign up to their loyalty scheme( just a points scheme, not a credit card thing )

JoJoSM2 · 18/11/2017 11:48

Speaking of duty free, there's a Gucci shop at Heathrow so convenient if you live in the area.

Flumplet · 18/11/2017 11:58

I came on to say you would be a mug to spend thousands on a bag but it’s actually quite reasonable and I really like it! Go for it!!

GinwithCucumber · 18/11/2017 12:19

I really like it. It's a bit small but if you have loads of everyday handbags then it's the right choice.

If you're in two minds about it put the decision off til your birthday.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 19/11/2017 00:03

Get the Gucci! Although I love the mint velvet version as well but not the fossil.

I recently brought the Gucci in black but really wanted red. Red was out if stock on the day and whilst I love it I still covet the red. Think dh plans to buy me the red mulberry Lily or the Gucci Marmont in red fir Christmas.

Mulberry will never be out. They have such classic handbags and are great quality despite what I've read on mumsnet. My mulberry tote is my most used bag and my roxy still looks great despite being battered over the years.

DentalDilemma · 19/11/2017 06:45

I agree with some of the previous posters, anything with big logos looks a bit dated and naff. Designer brands keep selling this type of thing because it brings in big money from rich Chinese and Russian buyers and people who aspire to a "Real Housewives of ...." style, but fashion really has moved on.

I would go for something like the DeMellier (Mini) Berlin instead.

Whatsthekey1 · 20/11/2017 15:14

I have ordered the Gucci soho disco in black with 10% off!

Out of interest @DentalDilemma do you have a Demellier bag? I’ve always wondered about the quality.
