How much do you pay for a hair cut?

I had my hair cut today & was shocked at how expensive it was just to have a couple of inches chopped off!
I normally go for a stand by if I can, which is where you pop in on the off chance that a hairdresser is available & get your hair cut for under £20. The only problem there is that they are not always available.
I decided I couldn't be bothered with that this time & I booked a haircut today, which came to the best part of £40!
It seemed to have gone up loads since by last non stand by cut! Is this kind of price the norm?

Hmmm. about £45-50 by someone non-junior in Toni&Guy in London - so I would expect it to be a bit cheaper than what you paid for a trim. But it's not cheap, getting your hair cut, is it?

Sparkler1 · 12/04/2007 14:52

Hairdressers are so expensive but £40 sounds extortionate for just a cut and blow dry. I too dds 7 and 5 to a salon a few months back just to have their fringes cut and a tidy up and they charged about £15.
A couple of days ago I had a lady come to the house to trim my two dds hair and mine (we washed it before she came) and there wasn't a blow dry but she charged £15 for the three of us! Much better.

LucyJones · 12/04/2007 14:54

£40 approx but I am down South!

DrNortherner · 12/04/2007 14:54

I pay £29 for cut, highlights and blow dry. But I have found a gem. Before I discovered this salon I paid £90 ish.

brimfull · 12/04/2007 14:54

I pay 38.50 and that's with a discount !

kittylette · 12/04/2007 14:54

i dont

havent had my haircut in about 2 years,

its lovely and long

but after the wedding im having it all chopped of a'la-that-hearsay-bird-on-corrie

fuzzywuzzy · 12/04/2007 14:55

Last hair cut a fortnight ago, and it was just a slight trim with long layers put in, cost £65.

kittylette · 12/04/2007 14:56

a lady cam to my grans cut and blew my grans hair, and trimmed both my sons hair really nicely and charged ...

£5 !!

beat that

Whoooosh · 12/04/2007 14:56

I tried a local salon the other day because I don't have the time or inclination to keep going into London and I can't afford the £100 bill at the end.

Well what a mistake.

I now have the worst haircut I have ever had and it cost £43.Will cost me another £100 to put right once it has grown enough.

I reckon if you got something you are happy with £40 in Toni and Guy is kind of OK.

fuzzywuzzy · 12/04/2007 14:58

Have to say I loved the cut, and it was done by the top stylist at Vidal Sassoon in covent garden.....will prolly go back when I want it cut again in about another million years time.

Pinkchampagne · 12/04/2007 15:36

I wouldn't mind paying out £40+ for Toni & Guy or some other very good hairdresser, but for where I went to have some whipper snapper cut my hair, I thought it was a tad expensive! Maybe I am being a bit of a tight arse in my old age!!

PinkTulips · 12/04/2007 15:39

i don't pay to have it done.... i chop at it with my sewing scissors every 4/5 months or so

tortoise · 12/04/2007 15:39

I pay £11! Just for a basic trim and she does a very good job of it. Only a small town so wouldn't expect to pay much more and wouldn't be able to afford to!

Pinkchampagne · 12/04/2007 15:41

Oh it would be a disaster if I tried to chop my own hair, believe me!!

Had colour, highlights, trim and finish this morning for the princley sum of £65. DH has a fit when I tell him how much it costs, as he manages to get his done for under a tenner!

Pinkchampagne · 12/04/2007 15:44

I live in a small town too, tortoise!
They asked if I wanted any v expensive products to bump the cost up that little bit more! I declined today!

if you're going for the hippy/punk choppy look it works just fine but probably not so good if you really want a pretty cut!

VoodooSpringChicken · 12/04/2007 15:45

cut and blow £45
half head of hilights too £80 ish

they are very good stylists but they seriously make up the prices as Ive had the same thing done a few times and been charged differently evry time!
I am such a wimp I couldnt start the procedure with 'so what is this going to cost today...'
so I just go twice a year...christmas and birthday presents of dh!!

Pinkchampagne · 12/04/2007 15:45

Men seem to manage to get their hair cut for pennies don't they?!

OP posts:
Pinkchampagne · 12/04/2007 15:46

LOL, PT! I really wouldn't trust myself with a pair of scissors!!

OP posts:
highonlife · 12/04/2007 15:47

Can't understand how men get their hair cut so cheaply and so quickly, if only you could go in and be done within 15 minutes with no appointment necessary!!!!

meowmix · 12/04/2007 15:50

30 Riyals for haircut which is 4 quid UK. If I have colour too then it goes up to 60 riyals (8 UK). In London I was paying UK80 for colour and cut AND tipping the girls.

DH gets a shave, haircut, massage, manicure and facial for 15 riyals (2 quid)

But ... its quite hit and miss and the result entirely depends on Vicki's mood at the time. Last time she refused to colour my hair lighter because she 'knew best'. And you don't argue with a woman holding scissors.

custy · 12/04/2007 15:54

i used to have long hair, then trainess hairdresser which is ds's G/F needed to practice a trim

i told her i didn't want a hairdressers "trim" i wanted an inch off.

so she scalped me - i literally cried. but not in front of her obviously as future MIL material i told her it was fab. of course.

then i went to bathroom and had literal panic attack. used be down my back now is bra stap long

fkin good cut though

Washersaurus · 12/04/2007 15:54

Had mine cut for £19 yesterday - thought that was a bit pricey , it was just a dry trim.

I now cut DH's "hair" with trimmers as he is so thin on top these days he now refuses to pay the barber...
