How much do you pay for a hair cut?

I had my hair cut today & was shocked at how expensive it was just to have a couple of inches chopped off!
I normally go for a stand by if I can, which is where you pop in on the off chance that a hairdresser is available & get your hair cut for under £20. The only problem there is that they are not always available.
I decided I couldn't be bothered with that this time & I booked a haircut today, which came to the best part of £40!
It seemed to have gone up loads since by last non stand by cut! Is this kind of price the norm?

full head of hightlights £65.00
blow dry £15.00

yesterday i had dc hair done

BigHotMama · 12/04/2007 15:58

A salon like Toni & Guy/Regis/Boo I'd pay around £35-£50 but have been going to my mate's salon just 5 mins away and she only charges me £7 for a dry cut..suppose I'm lucky as she cuts my hair even better than T&G ever did. Its good to know someone who can cut it for cheaper ime

Pinkchampagne · 12/04/2007 15:59

At least you shouldn't have to visit the salon for a while now, custy!
Did you get it for free?
When I get my stand by cuts, I normally go early evening & have a glass of wine while I am having hair cut, but todays appt was 9.30am, so too early for my wine too!

£28 for a cut and blow dry.

mummylin2495 · 12/04/2007 16:07

had wash, blow dry and straightened and 3 colours put in yesterday .it was £60 . for the time she spent putting colours in ( pink ,purple and a dark colour ) it was well worth it ! that is in Bournemouth

custy · 12/04/2007 16:12

aye pinkchampagne it were free - thank fuck.

last time it happened the police pulled me on way home - i was in such shock i forgot my seatbelt - of course girly muttering of " my hair, my hair" made policeman ( trez dishy) laugh and very nicely just gave me a producer. never went back since

mosschops30 · 12/04/2007 16:13

My hairdresser charges £35 for a cut and blow dry. Which is quite good, if you go somewhere uber-trendy you can spend £50-60 on just a cut.

Pinkchampagne · 12/04/2007 19:20

LOL, custy!

£45.00 every six weeks (eek!)

Includes a glass of wine though.

WideWebWitch · 12/04/2007 19:24

Approx £100 every six weeks for cut and colour

Pinkchampagne · 12/04/2007 19:25

Next time I shall make sure it's a later appt so that I get my glass of wine!

£90 cut and colour

Hulababy · 12/04/2007 19:31

£45 for cut and blow drive; £45 for highlights. But I don't go very often! It is very nice though, located in the Spa we use for MN meets. All very swish looking, free broadband to surf whilst waiting for your colour, free cocktail bar and nibbles. Lovely relaxing time when I do go. And I MUST remember to make my next appointment!

ChasingRabbits · 12/04/2007 19:32

I wash mine then go straight to the hair dressers so it is still wet (I HATE people washing my hair). I then have a cut and blow-dry. I pay £13.

Hulababy · 12/04/2007 19:32

Actually that is wrong. Both went up to £50 last year. So £100 exactly for cut, highlights and blow dry.

Milliways · 12/04/2007 19:34

Lady comes to our house, dry cuts (or wet cuts if we wash first) all 4 of us (Me, DH, DS & DD(16).

Costs £48 total

fraoch · 12/04/2007 19:40

I too am at the fact that some of you pay for a haircut what I would pay for a holiday.

My Mum's goes to a hairdresser who works from home and she cut mine and dd's hair last summer, and charged £5 for the two of us.

I went to her again after Christamas and she totally restyled mine (and took about 6" off), and cut dd's and again only asked for £5. I gave her £10 and she tried to give me some back.

Before that I regularly used to hack at it myself.

Would not pay over £15 for a haircut.

fraoch · 12/04/2007 19:42

Mum not Mum's

yomellamoHelly · 12/04/2007 19:43

Had hair cut last month for £49 (up from £35 so was a bit shocked). They have 3 levels of hairdressers and this was the cheapest. BUT I always get a fab haircut at this salon and they're very good on a head massage while they wash your hair and a neck and shoulders massage after. Plus you get offered plenty of teas and a good choice of mags. Makes the whole experience a treat so worth it IMO.

PestoMonster · 12/04/2007 19:46

Arranged for a very nice girl to cut both dds' hair this morning. She did 2 dry-cuts for £5 each. I thought this was very good.
