How much do you pay for a hair cut?

I had my hair cut today & was shocked at how expensive it was just to have a couple of inches chopped off!
I normally go for a stand by if I can, which is where you pop in on the off chance that a hairdresser is available & get your hair cut for under £20. The only problem there is that they are not always available.
I decided I couldn't be bothered with that this time & I booked a haircut today, which came to the best part of £40!
It seemed to have gone up loads since by last non stand by cut! Is this kind of price the norm?

I pay £38-wash,cut and blow dry-and they r great...
Excuse me Pointydog-what did you mean by saying u r white and u have to do it???

I think she means she's got white hairs . Just like me. Hence she has to go through what she goes through ever 2months to feel good.

Last time i went it was £85 at Toni&Guy. It was a birhtday treat.Had £50 voucher from MIL. Had my almost waist length hair chopped to just below ears and had streak things put in, Only on top part of head. think they call it a half head?
I hadn't had it done for at least a year before that. And it was about £40 then. (only trim)

i would never ever go back to toni and guy ever again.I was charged £50 by someone who was meant to be a top stylist ..she was 18 for crist sakes. I had to have it cut 4 weeks later in a better salon who politly asked me when was the last time you had it cut when i told her she thought i hadn't had it cut for a year as there was long bits everywhere. Appalling service in toni and guy and not a nice cut. I was only in there 20 mins and I have really thick long hair!
Btw I now pay about £80 for cut and colour but only get charged the extra as my hair is really long and thick.

I don't have a fave hairdressers, i go to them, they do my hair, i think crap, then move on to next one.
Toni & Guy is the only one i've been to 3 times in a row (although 2 years apart)
Not sure if i will go there next time ( next year or try another in town.)
Don't wanna go to weymouth when i can toddle 10 mins into town.

Got sent to ultra-cheap hairdresser when was 12 and got scarecut (fringe too short + v. thick hair = ultraquiff). Been scared of budget hairdressing ever since!

DrNortherner..just spotted this thread and I will spread the word as to your wonderfullness, if you share the name of the salon with me...Please! I go to lovely lady at top of my road and she is a fab cutter but she is incapable of cutting my hair in any other way now...Want a change but skint!

I go to Art of Hair in the lovely St Arbeck! She is called Sharon. Not a sulubrious salon, but she is fab at cutting and colouring. I have recommended lots of people to her and they are very happy.

(Name change just because my son thought there was a band called the manic tree creatures and it amused me and I thought 'what a great name'. I shall be myself (well, the filthy one) in a day or so...)
