How much do you pay for a hair cut?

I had my hair cut today & was shocked at how expensive it was just to have a couple of inches chopped off!
I normally go for a stand by if I can, which is where you pop in on the off chance that a hairdresser is available & get your hair cut for under £20. The only problem there is that they are not always available.
I decided I couldn't be bothered with that this time & I booked a haircut today, which came to the best part of £40!
It seemed to have gone up loads since by last non stand by cut! Is this kind of price the norm?

A lady comes to the house. She charges £4.50 but we give her a tenner to do me and DH. She is in and out in around 25 mins.

I hate having my haircut, so it's usually a long time between cuts. I get my sister to do it as often as I can, but as she's married to a diplomat, she's often not around (Though when people admired my hair I could say - oh yes I go to Bucharest to have it cut )
I needed a cut in a hurry last November for my FIL's funeral, so I went to Supercuts & they did it very well, so I've been back since. I pay £29 for a cut & blow dry, but even if you go on a Sunday you often have to wait an hour or so - I just take a good book....

Roobie · 12/04/2007 21:15

£48 cut & blow dry

mrsgenehunt · 12/04/2007 21:24

i pay 15..
would not pay more, omg, cheapskate, well, poor, me

Tinker · 12/04/2007 21:27

£35 plus tip. And that hurts. Just can't justify going every 6 weeks though I should. And have never ventured into salon colouring - once started you can't stop.

Surfermum · 12/04/2007 21:31

I pay around £20 for a cut and blow dry. DD gets hers done for nothing as the lady who does my mum's at home does dd's while mum is under the dryer.

Wotzsaname · 12/04/2007 21:33

My mum told me the other day she paid for a re-style, and colour which came to £107 . She was very happy with it. But I wouldn't pay that much ever!

Millie1 · 12/04/2007 21:38

Around £115 for cut and highlights ... I try to get apts about 8 wks apart but it's often more like 10-12.

MerryMarigold · 12/04/2007 21:40

I spent 40 quid the other day - and it wasn't central london by any means, just a local salon. i won't be going again! i'd rather pay the extra tenner for a top london cut.

hoolagirl · 12/04/2007 22:07

£35, cut, highlighted, dried and styled.
I stay in a small town.

KristinaM · 12/04/2007 22:09

bubblicious · 12/04/2007 22:15

ja9 · 12/04/2007 22:27

I pay for myself and my 2 girls £18.50
But thats only because my sister is a mobile hairdresser!

Mind you, last time she did it both my girls hated their hair as she'd cut fringes and length too short!!!

I now have to find somewhere else to have it done because neither will let her do it again!

cece · 12/04/2007 22:57

I had a mobile one last tiem and she charged me £14 for a cut

Twinklemegan · 12/04/2007 23:08

I hate hate hate going to the hairdressers and the extortionate prices put me off even more. Consequently, I haven't been for quite a while . I cut the front and DH does the back - and he doesn't do a bad job of it either.

NorksBride · 12/04/2007 23:18

£65 for cut & colour.

When I was a bright young thing it was cut by Charles Worthington who charged £180. The hair did look good and the drinks were pretty good too!

bubblicious · 12/04/2007 23:22

PC you pass to quickly on an opportunity!!!!
and I guess you wouldnt get wine only beer offered!!!

Pinkchampagne · 12/04/2007 23:38

£40ish seems to be the norm, so I really must stop being such a tight old cow!

OttersPool · 12/04/2007 23:42

£65 ish every 6 weeks cut and colour

Smurfgirl · 13/04/2007 00:59

£40 (Toni & Guy v.senior stylist) or £23.50 (nice local salon), depends on how I feel. T&G haircut lasts longer, but prefer the one the cheaper salon does. Hmm.

I had my hair dyed and highlights put in in February at T&G and that was £65.

serenity · 13/04/2007 01:17

£12 for a cut by a friends SIL, who used to be a proper hairdresser and now just does a small circle of friends. Dye my own hair, but I've been doing it 23odd years now so I think I know what I'm doing

sophiewd · 13/04/2007 07:58

£18.50 once or twice a year.

pointydog · 13/04/2007 08:17

£65 for permanent colour, foils, cut and dry every two months.

But I am WHITE. I HAVE to do it or I would cry all day
