Tis the season...

The first one I've seen actually for sale is the John Lewis Beauty Advent Calendar. £149 with a great selection of products.
Ordered mine!

Oh actually sorry I’m getting confused- it’s the Selfridges calendar with pink minger perfumes

The JL calendar actually has some pretty nice ones

Selfridges has all 5 pink mingers!

HaHaHmm · 16/10/2017 13:14

Liberty looks much better value IMHO.

chloechloe · 16/10/2017 15:09

This thread is so bad! Just had a look at the JL contents and I think Liberty sounds much better. I'm very tempted but that would be my 4th calendar!

Nanasueathome · 16/10/2017 15:27

I saw the JL advent calendar in store last week and although it looks nice the packaging and weight is nowhere near as good as the Liberty one
Also, I believe the Liberty calendar has a value of over £500 as opposed to the JL value of around £300

Pippin8 · 16/10/2017 15:32

I think I’ll wait & go for the Liberty. The JL box is uninspiring. Did it sell out super fast last year, do I need to order at midnight?

I dare not tell anyone at work, people thought I was crazy last year for spending £70 on the look fantastic calendar.

I think I just love advent calendars in general, I bought DS a Pringles one today.

Nanasueathome · 16/10/2017 15:35

The Liberty empty box sells quite well on eBay
I kept my box from last year and have filled it for my sister this year...she does know I am doing this and is really excited
I’m getting a new Liberty one from my son this year
He knows he has to get in there quick though but he works abroad and they are 2nours ahead of us so he has a good start
Think it sold out/same day last year and then people were sellin* them on eBay for triple what they had paid

Smashpumpkin · 16/10/2017 17:41

Anyone know the release date of the Liberty?

Youcanstayundermyumbrella · 16/10/2017 17:50

25 October.

I'm very tempted... I really, really shouldn't but I've had a year of very few treats. I've been bought the LF as a birthday present so can't even justify it as my only one.

Aridane · 16/10/2017 18:01

Placemarking to remind myself to review as presents for other and myself!

DeltaG · 17/10/2017 13:33

@MountainDweller

In fact I am on the Swiss side of the French/Swiss border (10 mins from Divonne)! It's very kind of you, but I've decided finally to get the Benefit one from Manor in Geneva.

I also had the M&S one last year and thought it was great, but wanted to try another this time around. I think I'll need to get a chocolate one as well....

KityGlitr · 17/10/2017 14:07

Been going on about the NYX one for a few weeks to OH but couldn't justify the £50, he got me a card the other day to say thanks for driving him everywhere while his car is broken and put £50 inside for me to buy the calendar! He didn't want to risk getting the wrong one bless him. So I've bought it. Super excited for it as I love NYX and am a total lip junkie and of all of the other calendars either I had everything in them already (sleek and S&G) or felt they were full of crap and not worth the cost. I love lip minis even more than full size too as I never manage to finish full size ones and they're cute and dinky. So excited for December 1st now!

Aridane · 17/10/2017 14:50

I have put myself on the 'waiting list' for the Boots one - will make a nice present for my mother.

Looked at a Lancome one, as thought I might splurge for myself or mother, but it just looks like a very expensive way of collecting the free samples they give away on promotions (ie so it looks like a giant freebie). Not something that is £90+.

I was given the M&S one last year. I loved it. Never having had a beauty advent calendar before, it was a lovely surprise

chloechloe · 17/10/2017 17:45

I've accidentally opened the first 8 days of the LF one and am really pleased with it so far. Think it works out at good value for the contents!

Aridane · 17/10/2017 17:53

LF?

DottyBlue2 · 17/10/2017 17:59

accidentally ????!!!! Grin

caggie09 · 17/10/2017 18:11

Ive done more than 8 daysBlush, hopefully ill forget whats in it by December! Im also pleased with the contents! May have to hide it from myself now!

Skinandbones · 17/10/2017 18:15

Dd got the Rituals one last year with several normal size offerings, this year I've got it (birthday in November) , she has the deluxe one. Just so they are not left out, DH has a tea advent, a different brew every day and ds a 12 day skin products box from superdrug.

chloechloe · 17/10/2017 19:16

aridane LF = Look Fantastic!

I was tempted by the Rituals one too skinandbones, let us know what you make of it!

Motoko · 17/10/2017 19:52

I would LOVE the Liberty one, but can't justify spending £169 on beauty products when I'm housebound during the week, due to disability, so don't use them very often.
I could buy myself a lovely jacket I've seen, and still have change for some new boots too!

I think I'll get the M&S one though. We usually spend more than £35 on foodie bits from there, so will qualify for the £35 spend.

mowglik · 17/10/2017 20:06

A tea advent! I need to look this up...

Motoko I think it might be a £35 spend on beauty or clothes only. And maybe the home section, I could be wrong.

Trazzletoes · 17/10/2017 22:49

Bluebird tea co do a tea one :)

Motoko · 18/10/2017 12:10

Thanks for the heads up Mowglik, I'll check that. I'm sure we can make up the spend on presents instead.

Annabelle4 · 19/10/2017 12:41

What's the MN verdict on the ASOS one? I want to be really sure before I splash out on these.

mowglik · 19/10/2017 13:55

trazzle I’ve had a look at bluebird and also seen that pukka do a tea one for £7.99.. might go for that!

My nxy lippy calendar has arrived and I’m going to open one every day, have opened the first and I won’t post spoilers but I do love the mini sizes of the products, I’d never get through 24 full size lipsticks

Mrsallovertheplace · 19/10/2017 14:12

I've found my people Grin I'm loving all the unboxing of the advents, I got the LF one delivered last week and my ASOS one is due today.

Last year I loved the M&S but I'm not that impressed this year if I'm honest. Didn't manage to get hold of LF last year but do remember the ASOS and Ciate coming down in price around mid December so may look to get a third around then when I'm sure I'll have raided the other two!
