Isn't she just fabulously stylish and cool for a 64 year old.

As a 50 year old, what can I do to try to emulate her ?

OP posts:
Madbengalmum · 15/07/2017 14:25

No, i think she lookslike mutton, and when Melania stands next to her, well, she looks even worse.

GinAndGooseberry · 15/07/2017 14:28

I think OP, be slim, well cut clothes that flatter in shades that flatter too. Nothing can ever be chosen for its own sake, it has to enhance you.

I hate the mutton dressed as lamb saying too. It's ridiculous. The problem nowadays when I look around at all the fat youngster is the lamb dressed as lamb. The older women dress so much better. And by older women i mean my own friends who are all still 20-30 years younger than Donald Trump the arbiter of all that women ought to concern themselves with {irony} His thought processes when she approached him, 'surprisingly fuckable despite her age ''you're in great shape''

Deathraystare · 15/07/2017 14:31

I don't care for the comparison between the two ladies and I know the detestable Sarah Vine in the daily fail went on about it. I think she looks great for her age.

Chestervase1 · 15/07/2017 14:37

SwedishEdith effing ell just googled as well she looks totally different! I want the name of her surgeon and dentist! Is it the same person

GinAndGooseberry · 15/07/2017 15:00

Yes, she looks better now, and still looks natural! You couldn't say like Carla Bruni that she looks fantastic but you can tell some work has been done.

OCSockOrphanage · 15/07/2017 15:01

He looked great with slightly longer hair. I do wonder if BM is worrying now about being married to a man so much younger, and trying (too) hard to look fit and hot.

Baalam · 15/07/2017 15:03

I think she's horrendous looking, abnormally thin, full of plastic surgery and a bad wig. Her clothes are nice but other than that she's no role model!

Baalam · 15/07/2017 15:06

I suppose it depends on your definition of cool and or attractive. I have a friend who is 64 who looks 50x better than BM. No surgery, not thin

Zxyzoey31 · 15/07/2017 15:23

I think she looks great. Has a slightly quirky style rather than the utter boringness of Ms Trump and Michelle Obama. I like the short skirts and the thiness. The comments about knobbly knees are mean. In fact a lot of this thread is just mean.

HillaryWinshaw · 15/07/2017 15:28

I don't think she looks good - a bit too try hard. To be honest, I think her skirts are too short.

SerfTerf · 15/07/2017 15:34

I think she chases a certain type of youthful look (orange tan, short skirts, very blonde) that makes her the opposite of an older role model.

I'm early forties now and always aware now of older women around me who look good, how and why they look good.

I admire Jane Birkin.

WillowWeeping · 15/07/2017 15:38

I think she looks dreadful Confused

Skirts are too short and she is far too busty for high necked shifts.

Melania has looked great recently.

Diamondlife · 15/07/2017 15:38

Most of us would look good if we had ££££ to spend on cosmetic surgery.
She's very fake looking.

Diamondlife · 15/07/2017 15:39

Melania is genuinely beautiful & stylish.

ppeatfruit · 15/07/2017 17:11

Diamond Melania is in her 40s she's had quite a bit of work done. It's done well so it doesn't look fake.

I can never get over very rich stars having sooo much work done that they look like someone else. Do they look in the mirror? They all look like something out of Thunderbirds !

LucilleBluth · 15/07/2017 19:48

Honestly, all I see is plastic surgery face! If she is considered a role model for the older woman then she is a role model for not accepting ageing and fighting it with surgery. Facially she looks a fecking facelift Botox mess.

laramara · 15/07/2017 20:10

She clearly doesn't take any advise from stylists as although she has a very enviable figure her dress style is bizarre, the very stiff Star Trek looking clothes she always wears don't do anything for her; also she looks great with her hair up and not in the fluffy bob style she favours, however I don't feel she will change!

Timefortea99 · 15/07/2017 20:23

I wish I knew what styling hair products Melanie uses (or more likely gets used on her hair by stylists). It is controlled and informal at the same time.

Thetimestheyareachangingnow · 15/07/2017 22:19

It's double standards. If Kate Middleton had worn Melania's outfit she would have been accused of being frumpy.

Brigitte Macron is demeaned as being muttonish (shame on those Mumsnetters for using that phrase), gnarled, wizened because she is brimming with self-confidence despite being post menopausal.

You might not like her personal style (and that's fine) but she looks very happy in herself.

SerfTerf · 15/07/2017 23:41

I'm not sure she is "happy" in those clothes, hairpieces etc really. I think she's feeling the pressure to look younger because if media and public responses to her age gap marriage.

If you look at photos of her from 20 years ago, her personal style was totally different. Much more relaxed.

LittleBearPad · 16/07/2017 00:01

I thought Melania looked dowdy. The skirt length on the red suit did little for her.

LittleBearPad · 16/07/2017 00:03

Whereas Brigitte Macron looked comfortable in her own skin

SerfTerf · 16/07/2017 00:09

I can't see that at all. Maybe I'm projecting. Maybe we all are.

Floisme · 16/07/2017 08:18

My style was very different too 20 years ago. It's nothing to do with being married to a head of state - I just have a different body now. The idea that you should know what suits you at Macron's age is delusional. Post menopause, I'm re-appraising how I look and dress pretty much all the time, as I'm sure Macron is - only she's doing it with the world looking on.

The wigs will presumably be hair loss, something else for you to look forward to.

Comparisons with Melania Trump and Carla Bruni are silly. Trump is only in her mid 40s, Bruni wasn't even that she became First Lady. Macron is on an express train to old age and there ain't many stops. Use your imaginations - she'll be grappling with thinning hair, receding gums, early muscle wastage, all with the photographers snapping away.

Thetimestheyareachangingnow · 16/07/2017 08:54

Let's be honest; whatever she does she'll be damned.
