Isn't she just fabulously stylish and cool for a 64 year old.

As a 50 year old, what can I do to try to emulate her ?

OP posts:
burnishedsilver · 14/07/2017 17:40

I've just seen some photos of the last few days and I think her clothes are quite dated.

I'm not going to comment on her, her age or her physique. I am going to comment on the clothes because I like clothes and that's why I'm reading S&B.

Floisme · 14/07/2017 17:58

I know this is s and,b
And yet you sound disappointed that this is what we talk about?

If you must know, I also enjoy talking about feminism, politics, books, films and football, as I'm sure do many other posters. But I can have those conversations in real life. I don't get to hang out with people who are into clothes very often so I come on here to do it.

In any case I'm not sure what the function of an unelected spouse of a head of state is meant to be?

I think she is probably a little too thin, and I agree her skirt lengths are probably a bit short, not for her age but they don't flatter her shape.
Melania does look much classier.
Am a fan of Queen Letizia's style and think she has looked fantastic during her trip here this week.

Breezybreeze · 14/07/2017 20:45

I also love clothes floisme and I read S and B for similar reasons as you. I love clothes, dress well and like most of the theeads here but I'm uncomfortable with pulling apart other women's outfits and appearance.

If people come here asking for advice on a dress or a lipstick I'm all over or a discount code or musings about jeans shapes but these threads just feel nasty and regressive. And sexist.

I'm generally a lone voice though but I think I'll carry on Smile

Onedaysoooon · 14/07/2017 20:48

I think her look is striking but not cool or stylish. Melania has it just right.

TheRollingCrone · 14/07/2017 20:54

I don't like Emmanuals suits and The Don needs a decent tailor. The first ladies looked great. Loved Melanias red suit and Mme Macron white suit.

Floisme · 14/07/2017 20:55

But I don't think you have been the lone voice on this thread Breezy.

I notice what people wear, the same as I notice the books on their shelves or the photos on their desk or the art on their walls. I'm interested in Macron because it's so rare to see a woman my age who's clearly into clothes in the public eye. Her style isn't mine and I've said so but I don't view that as picking her appearance apart.

GeorginaWorsley · 14/07/2017 21:00

I agree Floisme
Her style isn't mine either and I don't like the mahogany tan but hey,am sure if she saw me she would have an opinion!Grin

Timefortea99 · 14/07/2017 21:01

I find her fascinating. She is too thin, with a strange barnet and teeth, and too much (false) hair. Some of her clothes are a bit too much like a uniform but she does have a certain something. She comes from wealthy stock, so although she was a teacher, she has always had money.

Can't decide if her husband is attractive or not.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 14/07/2017 21:06

I had quite a few French friends just like her. I do find that type quite boring.

OCSockOrphanage · 14/07/2017 21:16

Within a few months, I bet she settles into a slightly modified version of what she likes. It will be sorted by France's top fashion brains and I speculate that we shall all coo happily. It's a massive opportunity for French fashion to demonstrate that they can dress grown up, professional women in styles that fit and flatter without excess sexuality or infantilising grown women. FFS, we have all been waiting to see how it can be really well, even brilliantly, done. No more ruffles or cold shoulder tops would be a good start.... please, even pretty please... Grin

I think Brigitte Macron has probably always had a very rock chick style and is just being true to how she has always dressed. Good luck to her why should she conform whatever her age. Her look suits her.

Chestervase1 · 14/07/2017 22:25

I also think Melania is very stylish and as a former model can probably wear anything. She also seems very genuine.

nina2b · 15/07/2017 01:11

But why has she married The Donald? (Vast quantities of money, aside...)

ppeatfruit · 15/07/2017 13:04

But can we really put the fact that DT (who gives me the DTs btw ) is a billionaire and extremely powerful (god help us all) where MT is concerned.

Our friend is her make up consultant and says she's very nice though. Maybe just a little bit of an airhead !

Give me Le President any day!!!!

pasturesgreen · 15/07/2017 13:20

BM's skirts really are too short for her role, we don't need to see her bony, knobbly knees all the time.

Not a fan of the perma tan either.

cuirderussie · 15/07/2017 13:30

I think she looks awful and it's nothing to do with ageism. She's the same age as my MIL but my MIL is beautiful; simple well cut clothes, expensive looking grey hair, minimalist bags and jewellery. The orange blingy skinny rock chick look is really unattractive on BM.

Floisme · 15/07/2017 13:32

Actually Breezy I've just read the whole thread again and I think you make a fair point so apologies. I think remarks about style - including cosmetic work and tan - are reasonable because that's how she's chosen to present herself. Comments like 'wIzened' and 'knarly'... well that's just what happens, folks, deal with it.

provider5sectorzz9 · 15/07/2017 13:49

For some reason BM puts me in mind of rod stewart😶

ppeatfruit · 15/07/2017 13:52

That's what happens naturally Floisme but there are lot of vain people who spend a ton of money on botox \plastic surgery etc. it seems to me that too many people don't realise or accept that we get old any more , just say how wonderful someone looks for their age! For example like MT.

I admire Mme Macron for standing out against enriching the surgeons .

The cult of baby worship is taking over! Soon all corpses will have to be recycled by the plastics industry!

chiquita1 · 15/07/2017 13:58

Mrs. Macron has enriched a few surgeons you just have to look at her face, she has had a lot of work done.

SwedishEdith · 15/07/2017 14:17

I think Brigitte Macron has probably always had a very rock chick style

I just googled for pictures of her when she was younger and I'd say she looked a pretty conservative dresser.

SwedishEdith · 15/07/2017 14:19

Look at EM with longer hair.
