Also found some dior addict on ebay....roll on Friday!!

MrsPestilence · 23/07/2017 17:40

Mitsuoko is apparently going over to the new bee bottles, should be some bargains as they shift the old bottles.

Mrsmartell08 · 23/07/2017 18:02

Ohhhhhh

Judydreamsofhorses · 23/07/2017 20:21

Payday on Friday here too. Good to know about the bottles...

FloofyCat · 24/07/2017 09:09

Welcome Margarita - I haven't tried the Hermes one but I'm sure one of the Aqua Allegorias was rhubarb-y? One of the more knowledgeable Perfumistas may know which, or have you tried Fragrantica, the site has a search by note facility? It's a slippery slope though!

Nice to see people back from their holidays, I love hearing about holidays and especially holiday perfume choices though nothing will beat Benidorm 1973

Interesting about Mitsouko sits on hands I absolutely cannot spend any more money on perfume at the moment as I have expensive DC to maintain in the holidays Grin My resolve is sorely tested though as this is my sixth day of enforced bed rest. I'm actually amazed I haven't bought anything so far to be honest ignores all the money spent on Kindle books Wink

I just know I'm going to post this and then slip up immediately though Grin

Made it to Somerset House at the weekend - it was very entertaining. Some fabulous room sets. I did miss you all though - went on my own and it was weird not to be able to discuss what you were smelling. I emerged from the shop with nothing more than the show poster

They did have copies of Luca Turin's Folio (a collection of brilliant short articles - not just about perfume). Think this is my ultimate holiday read, especially good if you're keeping one eye on children.

OCSockOrphanage · 24/07/2017 12:14

Dzing! today. Love it, and I so wish would it would pop up in my TK Maxx as my sample is draining away. It's also almost the only scent my DH doesn't dislike... Why should that be? He is a great disappointment on scent appreciation.

Calminaqualm · 24/07/2017 12:53

Me too, Sock, TK Maxx has had a very meagre range of perfumes recently. I have quite a good collection of L'Artisans thanks to their discounts in the past. I've been looking out for Dzing and Noir Exquis. The current prices on Ebay are too high for me.

MrsCocoa, yes it would have added to the experience if you had been able to discuss the Somerset House scents with someone. Never mind, we can perhaps chat at the workshop, and with Sarah McCartney's input as well?

I have Francis Kurddjian's Oud Satin Mood on today. It is a rose oud with vanilla. I bought 5 mls after testing it in John Lewis (the SA produced it from a locked cupboard under the counter!) and absolutely loving it. I don't feel quite so enamoured of it today, perhaps the damp weather doesn't suit it!

Ollivander84 · 24/07/2017 13:00

Sock - definitely keep an eye out, my Dzing was from TK maxx! I couldn't find it in my local but my friend spotted it. Think it was £29

Mrsmartell08 · 24/07/2017 13:18

Fed up today.
so off to drench myself in knowing

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 24/07/2017 13:28

fed up of being ill which is why i havent been around for a week or so. SOTD is Belle D' Opium. i bought this as Dp and I started dating and is the scent I associate most strongly with him and him with me. Gutted it's discontinued. happily though I got a 30ml and a 50ml bottle for really cheap so i don't need to look for any for a while yet

really looking forward tot he perfume day, i keep changing my mind about what sort of scent i want to make for myself! MrsC would you mind, if i send you my email address, asking SarahM if she could send me an invoice for the cost as I can't quite work out how to send them the payment otherwise! tia

Margaritasbythesea · 24/07/2017 14:39

Floofycat - thank you for the recommendations. I shall have a go.

OCSockOrphanage · 24/07/2017 16:22

Well, a quick check on TK Maxx online didn't bring up any Dzing today but if anyone wants a 50ml Infusions d'Iris or Vent Vert, they are both on the site at about £35. Obviously, the VV won't be the wonderful original or even the decent 1990s re-work. The only bargains apart from that are three from Bond No9, at £64 (from £165) but it's not a house that has done it for me in the past, though I have tried very few of them.

Ollivander84 · 24/07/2017 16:27

SOTD - gypsy water

FatGirlWithChocolate · 24/07/2017 16:56

Holiday time soon..which means a bottle of perfume from Duty Free! Yippee! Any suggestions? I like rosy, powdery scents..and gourmand too..currently have Jo Malone Red Roses, Paris by YSL (also have a special edition Paris, Jardins Romantique), Angel Eau De Sucree by Mugler, Poudree by Narciso Rodriguez, Bronze Goddess by Estee Lauder and Liz Earle No 100 (not so keen on this one).

Mrsmartell08 · 24/07/2017 16:59

You'd love valentino poudre if you can get hold of it!
Have you tried the new Paris flanker?

MrsCocoa · 24/07/2017 18:45

Tell us what you're thinking about making One? (Will pm you in a bit on payment...).

I did write down a few notes at SH - chiefly things to go with galbanum!

And SotD is Beaver. Called into Bloom whilst in town and picked up a sample. The 'freshly hewn timber' note sadly isn't very discernable to me. So back to delicious, borderline disturbing, B**. And the glorious Civet.

OCSockOrphanage · 24/07/2017 19:33

From the notes, it's B** and Macaques that I fancy, and I could be tempted into trying Rhinoceros because it sounds like Ambre Russe, which as I may have mentioned I have galloped through in A/W.

Judydreamsofhorses · 24/07/2017 20:47

SOTD is Miu Miu. It is bloody freezing here, tomorrow might be everyone's least fave, Black Opium, for cosy.

MrsCocoa · 24/07/2017 21:53

SotN is Yatagan to quench the craving for the promised freshly hewn timber not entirely sated by Beaver. (And I see someone on Fragrantica thinks Yatagan smells of lumberjacks). In a sad twist, Yatagan seems to feature quite a lot of actual Beaver (castoreum).

OC - I sniffed Rhinoceros on a smelling strip. The opening was a massive masculine leather with tobacco and wood. I didn't pay attention for long enough to know about heart/base notes, but I didn't get a hint of amber or spices to come. One to try on skin? B** is much more interesting when warmed up a bit.

Calminaqualm · 24/07/2017 22:10

Ooh, Judy, I love Black Opium and my last airport purchase was a nice big bottle, but I'm working tomorrow so I shall have to wear a politer perfume, one that doesn't project all around the office and the one next door!

Btw, the half price perfume until Friday at 4160Tuesdays is Pillow Talk. This is a sweet floral, with yuzu and orange blossom in the top notes and a heart of jasmine and ylang ylang. There is also black pepper adding a zing throughout. There is a kind of honeyed depth to it which reminds me of Madonna's Truth or Dare although they only share some notes. It is strong and yet doesn't project far. You may have to go into the 4160 Facebook page to get the link.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 24/07/2017 22:39

mrsC i was thinking something with white and purple flowers so maybe tuberose, iris, neroli that sort of thing but then i change my mind and want roses and powder! I am a huge fan of both those types of scents so either would make me happy but i don't want to end upw ith some sort of frankenstein/hybrid combination of the two that smells vile! i want something wearable

Judydreamsofhorses · 24/07/2017 22:56

calm I am pleased to find a fellow fan! I generally only like it in winter, but it feels like winter here right now.

MrsCocoa · 25/07/2017 08:18

Both sound lovely One. Avoiding spoilers but was very taken with lilac at Somerset House. Know what you mean about hybrids. I'm dithering between a 70s style green chypre, and something green and watery. Will need to jump one way or another on the day!

MrsCocoa · 25/07/2017 08:49

One have pm'd you.

SotD is L'Air du Desert Marocain.
