Sorry Green - yes, the workshop discussion did nudge me into a name change.

The Killian notes and the staging at SH were very funny - almost tempted to purchase the photo.

My quick lucky dip options usually involve my shoebox of vintage Avon bottles or my box of 4160 9mls. But I'll happily leave the house unperfumed as I've generally got random samples and decants in my handbag and car so that way I get to think about perfume some more on the way to work Grin.

MrsMacNally · 28/08/2017 11:13

Green - do you know Silences? You were the first person to come to mind when I smelt the galbanum in the opening. It's a bitter but rather delicate floral green.

DailyMaui · 28/08/2017 13:03

SOTD is Roja Dove's Diaghilev as I was needing something strong and supportive. I put two tiny drops on my wrists at 0800 and it it still wafting very strongly. I've never had a tiny sample last so long in my life. You could never actually spray this stuff.

I've just ordered some Tauer samples: L'Air du desert Marocain - my fave so far but I want another sample just to check for def, Au Couer Du Desert, Noontide Petals, Phi and Carillon Pour Une Ange. The last three are not usually my thing so I'll be interested to see how I take to them.

MrsMacNally · 28/08/2017 16:27

Sounds bold DM - haven't smelt but everyone seems to remark on the strength of the civet?

Judydreamsofhorses · 28/08/2017 18:02

SOTD was Chanel 19 for the first day of lectures of the academic year. No bank holiday here.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 28/08/2017 18:12

I have a tiny bottle of Silences. It was probably the first perfume I bought on the back of this thread, when I dared to pop my head over the parapet to ask for "something like Chanel 19" I had about 3 bottles of perfume then!
Now...200+ perfumes later...
Did Oxford St today, felt too sweaty and unkempt to face Liberty so just did M&S really. Very much liked the Santal and Cardamom by (iirc) Fragonard but loved the thingy agrumi Pompelmo -which surprised me as I usually find grapefruit too sweet in a perfume. The Nuxe prodigeuse perfumed water was lovely too sort of Bronze Goddessy.

MrsMacNally · 28/08/2017 18:26

Grin PiaM. Did you find a TK Maxx? You can order online too but I usually the find the best things at the bottom of a clearance shelf in store.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 28/08/2017 19:27

SOTD has been Rome 1963. Quite liked it today in the hot weather - reality may have mean dashing around after two over excited little ones but at least I smelt like I was spending the bank holiday idling my time away in an Italian cafe...

Eek Mrs M I'm not great with descriptions!! It's not a fresh or juicy citrus - a bit more grown up but uncomplicated still. As mentioned it does have a masculine feel but to me It's not too strong. Sort of I've just been embraced by a dashing gent masculine rather than a I've just stolen his scent masculine if you know what I mean.

explodingkittens · 28/08/2017 21:09

PIAM, I love Santal and Cardamom too, it's heavenly.

SOTD - found a sample of Acqua di Parma's Arancia di Capri at the bottom of my work bag, so...that. Lovely and fresh, no longevity though, which I suppose is unsurprising for a citrus.

Judy - funny, I was just thinking, first day of lectures tomorrow, what perfume would work? Don't have No. 19. Might have to be Chergui...

MrsMacNally · 28/08/2017 22:51

Oh that sounds lovely - have a bit of a thing for cardamom at the moment (would really like something that smells like the milky, sweet cardamom smell from Burfi).

Back to work tomorrow . Might need to wear something big and relatively anti-social to match my dark mood. A job for B**?

explodingkittens · 29/08/2017 07:04

I've found my first scrubber. And am saddened to note, it's a Tauer. Tried my sample of Lonestar Memories this morning, wrists were under the tap 2 mins later. I just couldn't cope with the Vicks-and-root-beer-ness of it. If anyone wants a sample, pm me!

explodingkittens · 29/08/2017 07:12

Oh, forgot to say, SOTD is now Petit Matin by MFK. Feels a bit wussy in comparison Grin

Knope2020 · 29/08/2017 07:26

Odd humid day here

PerfumeIsAMessage · 29/08/2017 10:57

Ohhhhhh no kittens! LM is one of my favourites! I think like all the balsamy/heavily spiced ones you need to give it time on your skin but if it's not for you...(like me with Addict and many of the others raved about on here) I do always worry people will think I have a Karvol soaked hanky when I first step out in Tauer.

Dd was asked by lady in hotel what perfume she had on this morning. BS Pink Grapefruit. Grin

YouAndYourFloofyCatNose · 29/08/2017 11:42

You see kittens this is why it takes me ages to try things lots of people love, in case I am disappointed! Not just in perfume, but in life, I'm kind of always slightly behind the times Grin

MrsMac I love you a little bit. I'm working on my very own flow chart as we speak. Results to be published in due course...

Sympathies to all Perfumistas back to work/school and/or poorly. I have the Buying New Shoes and Uniform expedition pencilled in for today. Currently am lying on the sofa in my nightie eating lemon cake, so it's going well HmmSmile

Green I am snurking at you basically telling elderly people they've had all their Tuesdays - let's hope not! The MIL gift sounds very thoughtful, scents are so evocative aren't they, I can't think of anything that gives more nostalgia than perfume.

And on the subjects of gifts Wink, my other task for today is pinning down DH and putting Ealing Green on him, I cannot believe how gorgeous this is. On paper it doesn't sound like "my" kind of perfume so I tried it before reading about it - I gather it is inspired by the 17th century which may explain my huge love for it. It's so herbal and yummy, I think it would smell very sexy on a man. DH is manfully resisting however, and muttering things about the treatment of annoying wives in Tudor times Hmm Thank you so much green, but I am holding you personally responsible however when I find a FB and spend the school shoes money on it Grin

I hope everyone isn't too stressed with a return to "normal" life - apparently the weather is going to be wonderful here as soon as the DC go back to school. Of course it is Angry

explodingkittens · 29/08/2017 11:50

I know, it's odd and a shame about LM! I don't usually have an issue with heavy, balsamy scents but this was...eyewatering! I would also usually give it time (my current fave Nuit De Bakelite has some very odd topnotes!) but I just couldn't stand it. It lingered even after the scrub.

I do wonder though, would it being almost TOTM have an effect? Perhaps I find challenging perfume just as difficult as challenging students at this time of the month! Grin

explodingkittens · 29/08/2017 11:54

What's the MN Perfumista opinion on Prada Infusion d'Iris? TKMaxx have the EDP for 40% off... The notes sound like something I would like but am wary of a blind buy!

BluebellGal · 29/08/2017 17:20

I'm a lurker here (can't be gagged with login to post) so enjoy the chat from afar. Time i joined in as this is the nicest thread on MN right now for me.

**Exploding kittens - Prada Infusion D'Iris is a gorgeous light and airy interpretation of Iris. For me I get a citrus and tea explosion on the opening and it dries down to a beautiful soft iris scent with tea scent still going strong and soft woody base. Longevity is fairly decent but I find Prada Infusion D'Amande has much better staying power and projection plus it's smells gorgeous so will be buying FB of that, but I am now tempted by Iris at that price! The Amande is a close relation of Iris but more nutty, stronger, no tea. I purchased 6 large samples (7.5ml) of the Infusion range from Perfume Society for £30.

BluebellGal · 29/08/2017 17:21

Gagged?! I meant faffed (you can see why I don't post on MN very often)

BluebellGal · 29/08/2017 17:28

How do all you perfumistas store your samples? I have about 10 perfume society discovery boxes on the go, which are taking over the shelving in our living room! I've looked at jewellery boxes but haven't seen any that are quite right.

I want to get the Liberty beauty advent calendar just so I have some beautiful storage for my perfumes!

PerfumeIsAMessage · 29/08/2017 18:24

Welcome Bluebell! (Love bluebells). My samples are just all jostling round in (several) L'Occitane gift boxes. I always ask for a box when I order from them because they are free, pretty and useful!
I have the PP Infusions d'Iris and it's one of my go-to scents when I'm tired or headachey or just can't be bothered to try too hard scent wise. I love the soapy iris.
TKMaxx Covent Garden...no perfume but £30 on naice soaps. Liberty - lots of sniffing and an euwwwwww at Nuits d'Hadrien which smelled like something you'd lob in a curry to liven it up.

BluebellGal · 29/08/2017 18:56

My scent of the day was Agonist White Oud 10. It's a light woody oud - really gorgeous and the longevity is great in the heat (very humid here today). I keep getting wafts of it when I move hours after putting it on. It's an unusual perfume and tricky to describe but I would say it smells like a cleaner, fresher ethereal musk

BluebellGal · 29/08/2017 19:00

Thanks for the lovely welcome PIAM

I had my first scrubber yesterday too. Miller Harris Feuilles de Tabac. It was too much for me, apparently it dries down to a softer smokey scent fairly quickly but I only left it on for 5 minutes so didn't find out!

MrsMacNally · 29/08/2017 19:17

Grin at PiaM - that's one of my all time favourites!!!! Now wondering about your curries...that's amber and citrus you'd be chucking in?

Funny you discuss LM today EK. My son, tuning into my bleak mood as I was preparing to leave for work this morning, handed me his treasured (nerf) gun and said, ' take this and leave it out on your desk'. So, embracing the gun slinging mood, I did have a big spray of LM and loved it all day. (Did a side by side with Lush's All Good Things. They do follow a similar structure, tarry resins that resolve into something sweeter and powdery, but the Lush smells relatively tame and monochrome compared with the Tauer. The resins also melt away completely in favour of very sweet notes in AGT, but are still present in LM for a good 8 hours or so).

I definitely have some sort of olfactory pain barrier that I can get past if I sniff things several times. It's weird - some things seem to send up an immediate red flag, but repeat exposure means that eventually gets set to one side. Vintage stuff in particular has taken some perseverance.
