EL diamonds and rubies sotd for me

MrsMacNally · 25/08/2017 12:45

It's a great idea Floof - I've been making a beauty-themed one for the last couple of years for DD1. Why didn't I think about perfume .

Tiger's little perfume bottles would be good for this if they are still on sale. But just on decants, do you find there are some bottles it is impossible to get in to without a Travalo? (And there doesn't seem to be a way of decanting from them?). Anyone cracked this?

MrsMacNally · 25/08/2017 14:39

Do tell us about Ecusson Calmina -its notes aren't listed on Fragrantica.

Calminaqualm · 25/08/2017 17:09

I think Jean D'Albret as a brand has long since gone, MrsMac. Here is an article on Ecusson which gives the history of the perfume. I am not very good at picking them out, but looking at the notes listed in the article, I would say that the top notes have gone in my bottle (a full splash bottle from, I think, the 60s/70s) but the others I can distinguish are geranium, carnation and rose. It is very powdery but woodsy rather than sweet. It has oak moss in it and is powerful stuff. It's marked "Eau de cologne parfumee 90" and I'm not really sure what that means, whether it is supposed to be weak because it's cologne, or strong because it's 90 per cent. Anyway, it was definitely a successful buy from EBay.

Judydreamsofhorses · 25/08/2017 20:58

SOTD was Heeley Sel Marin, but have since had another shower and put my pyjamas on, and am in Tauer Lonestar Memories now.

Judydreamsofhorses · 25/08/2017 21:03

floofy that's a lovely thing to do for the staff. I teach HE, but in an FE college, so I get gifts from students rather than parents, and despite all the threads on here saying teaching staff shouldn't get presents, I so appreciate it.

MrsMacNally · 25/08/2017 22:03

Thanks Calmina - have seen it turn up on eBay occasionally for a reasonable price. Have been intrigued since reading the Barbara Herman comment that, '... it is a study in the way a perfumer can add depth to lightness without any appreciable calorific difference'.

So onto the more prosaic; I nipped into TK Maxx earlier (just to return something - honest!) and they seem to be ramping up their perfumes for Christmas. Saw a bottle of Knowing, several from Miller Harris, but succumbed to extremely bargainous bottles of Jacomo Silences, and the Pharrell Williams/CdG collaboration, Girl.

Someone on Fragrantica describes the latter as a, '...milky iris/violet-infused and sweetened woody thing'. It feels like a CdG - it makes you notice the surface texture. It smells quite gentle, quite synthetic and does just enough shimmying (if you concentrate) between floral, doughy, smokey and earthy notes not to be boring.

Am with Babs H in really not liking the concept of neutered 'office scents'. But I will enjoy sitting in a personal cloud of this at my desk.

ThreeSangriasFloor · 25/08/2017 23:07

Evening from my last night in holiday. I tried out my samples of 4160T's Captured by Candlelight and Goodbye Piccadilly the last two nights.

CBC is gorgeous (who recommended it as a Christmas fragrance? Yes! Absolutely!).

GB is weird. I like the drydown, dislike initual stage, cannot pick out the notes for the life of me. What's in it?!

I am over hot weather now and longing for cooler days and Addict Grin

ThreeSangriasFloor · 25/08/2017 23:11

Floof - excellent news on lil floof and very encouraging (DS is Year 8 and has ASC). Celebrations all round!! Wine (we need a perfume bottle emoji)

ThreeSangriasFloor · 25/08/2017 23:18

Oh and it's 3!

MrsMacNally · 25/08/2017 23:44

I shouldn't ask given Sept's budget is already blown, but does anyone know what's on offer this week at 4160s?

MrsMacNally · 25/08/2017 23:52

Sorry, but back to TK Maxx, they had SJP Stash for £12.99.

Calminaqualm · 26/08/2017 06:58

4160's offer this week is Goddess of Love and Perfume. There was a hint in the comments that Tart's Knicker Drawer is coming up soon. I will definitely be tempted by a full bottle of that one!

MrsMacNally · 26/08/2017 09:20

SotD: Silences. Galbanum/moss lovers - this is a gentle but bitter 70s-style green. (Was still some on the TK Maxx site last night).

Calmina - was so very tempted by the parfum strength version of TKD they did for Jo Fairley.

Knope2020 · 26/08/2017 09:24

Ooooooh
Knowing in t K maxx

Knope2020 · 26/08/2017 09:24

I've woken up full of cold.
It's a lovely sunny day too
Having my hair done later so will go for something light and powdery...maybe Valentino poudree

YouAndYourFloofyCatNose · 26/08/2017 10:59

Right I am confining myself to this thread and The Litter Tray and Christmas in an effort not to get more sucked into the Reddit stuff occurring elsewhere. This thread is a fabulously fragranced friendly refuge from RL Smile

Knowing in TK Maxx you say?! Nope I can't go back after last time when I spent the food budget on bloody scented candles HmmBut...No. I can't...

3 I have a Yr 8 too and I comfort myself that the new exam changes will have settled in a bit by then.

MrsM I do struggle with decanting - not helped as my fingers don't work so well so LongSufferingKindMrFloof does the tricky bits for me Smile I have been known to just spray from a FB into a teeny funnel set into a teeny bottle, which I know isn't the best method but for cheapy scents works Ok.

SOTD is 4160 Babylon Sunset. OMG. I can't describe how much I love this. Thank you green. It is beautiful and I can sniff all the different notes which is good for me as I'm a bit useless at this normally! It went straight into the top hundred ten list. It's just so round and beautiful

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

Knope2020 · 26/08/2017 11:11

I've changed my mind...im gping to wear EL diamonds and rubies

PerfumeIsAMessage · 26/08/2017 11:24

Back in Blighty after our all too short week...perfume- only bought a big bottle of 4711 which was absurdly cheap but at Mahon airport the perfumery though expensive cf most duty free outlets was unmanned so managed a mega sniffing session of mainstream but not prominent stuff....Faubourg 24 - loved, very me in its old fashioned chyprey-ness. Addict nope, not for me, too sweet. Youth Dew - am gutted to realise I prefer the PP version which isn't as coca-cola-y. Pleasures - nice, realised I'd smelled it a lot at one time. Manifesto -bleurgh PM par excellence. Cinema however was magnificent.....BUT the one which made me go "wowwwww" was......are you ready Knope? Knowing! Loved it! FB asap!

Judy - thanks so much for the Cardinal offer but I snagged a 2ml from eBay which hopefully is waiting for me at home. Flowers

PerfumeIsAMessage · 26/08/2017 11:27

Floofy- congrats on mini-floofy and also on your words of reason on the Redditch shite. There's a lot of rewriting of history going on there and having read some of their posts over there the majority of them are despicable people who well deserve the ban hammer.

Knope2020 · 26/08/2017 11:44

PerfumeIsAMessage · 26/08/2017 12:36

Grin I am now in London town for 4 days, are there TK Maxx's here?

Calmwhoknows · 26/08/2017 12:56

Perfume, if you look on the main TKMaxx website you will find a map with their stores. They seem to have a branch at Covent Garden, Charing Cross Road and also one in the city, as well as lots in the suburbs.

I love Cinema, but am not so keen on Dior Addict, although I wanted to love it as I like sweet perfume. It didn't sing to me.

SOTD is Chloe Narcisse. This is the only Chloe I like. Top notes of peach, apricot and narcissus, with spices underneath. It is sweet and strong, but best of all it has a sour fruit note which I love, but which the reviews don't seem to mention, so I'm wondering if it's just me! Knope, some of the reviews mention a strong resemblance to Diamonds and Rubies. I've never smelt that, but the peach and apricot is definitely similar to Diamonds and Emeralds.

Knope2020 · 26/08/2017 12:57

D&R is peachy rose
