If a friend made me a perfume advent calendar I would quite possibly cry with joy Grin. Lovely idea.

I'm twitching re: youth few now. But HAVE to tighten my belt this autumn.

No perfume today but SOTEvening was my Midnight in the Palace Garden sample again. It's a damn fine fragrance.

DailyMaui · 23/08/2017 21:23

SOTD was supposed to be - excitingly - L'Air du Desert Marocain because I found my long lost sample in an old makeup bag. But I left it at home. So it was actually Tom Ford's Noir which I keep in my desk as it seems to go down well at work: nice inoffensive amber.

Perfumes of the seasons:
Spring - Tauer Incense Rose
Summer - Le Labo Santal 33 - but I've actually to find my perfect summer scent. This isn't it but is my favourite of the lighter bunch so far.
Autumn - Agent Provocateur L'Agent
Winter - L'Artisan Parfumeur Passage D'Enfer

DailyMaui · 23/08/2017 21:40

Christmas perfume - Serge Lutens Arabie (that's this year... last year - Nuit de Noel by Caron. Why not?)

Calminaqualm · 23/08/2017 22:19

My seasonal choices are:

Spring - 4160Tuesdays Ealing Green
Summer - Annick Goutal Songes
Autumn - L'Artisan Parfumeur Mure et Musc
Winter - Madonna Truth or Dare Naked

My SOTD was Jean D'Albret's Casaque (vintage). It is a pretty, fleeting floral, but pleases me because I owned one just like it in my teens. I also have Ecusson.

DailyMaui · 23/08/2017 23:34

I have to find my notes but during the Perfume Society workshop I went on, the famously flamboyant Roja Dove had us smell vintage Youth Dew and TF Black Orchid side by side (I'm sure it was that anyway). They were incredibly similar. There were a few others as well. Some perfumes are more than an homage to past greats.

explodingkittens · 24/08/2017 07:24

SOTD - Chergui. Leather and deep heat at the moment - nae bad.

I had my nails and eyebrows done yesterday. I'm wearing a colour eyeshadow and a foundation I've never worn before. And a new perfume every day. I feel like not-me. I have a new role at work and I think perhaps I'm semi-consciously reinventing myself. I don't know if it will work Grin

Knope2020 · 24/08/2017 07:54

Ds2 back at school today...sotd prob addict

I seem a little...addicted 😁

explodingkittens · 24/08/2017 10:45

Chergui is settling beautifully into a warm, cosy amber on my wrist, and something sharper, more complex and - frankly - more interesting on my elbow. I want to say citrussy but it's not really - it's like sandalwood and oranges and musk...really lovely. It actually has a Youth Dew-y vibe for me. I know it's supposed to be about morrocan winds but on me it's more snuggly jumpers and whisky.

Knope2020 · 24/08/2017 11:39

Sounds lovely

YouAndYourFloofyCatNose · 24/08/2017 13:05

A very happy day in the Floofy House as middle DD passed her GSCEs! She has SN and has absolutely worked her socks off in a mainstream school which has been difficult for her, and we are so delighted and proud. I don't think I could be any prouder. She has her college place and it's a huge weight off my mind. I may have shed a little tear or two Blush DH also looked suspiciously bright eyed Grin

I am celebrating with Mrs Gloss's lemon sherbet (FlowersGreen) which I have been wanting to try for ages, and it has not let me down! Yummy.

Re advent calendars, you can buy little numbered boxes or bags (Amazon or Hobbycraft are good) and I just pop a sample in each one. Talking of samples, I got an email today from Spray and Go - has anyone used them? I can't check it out atm as I really can't spend any more money Wink

I still can't decide on my seasonal perfumes. I keep changing my mind Grin Winter is definitely Opium though.

Or Shalimar.

Or Paloma Picasso.

You see the problem Wink

Knope2020 · 24/08/2017 13:07

Oh that's lovely floofy
Huge congrats to your ds2 💐

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 24/08/2017 13:30

Ah congratulations mini-Floof!!
Must be great knowing that everything's sorted for college now. With all the reform she's done a great job.

SOTD is my first go with St. Andy of Tauer. Threw a sample of Noontide Petals into my Oxford order - not sure I'm ready for the much loved leathery Smokey types just yet.

But my goodness, Noontide Petals is NICE. Having lots of cheeky sniffs today and loving it.

MrsMacNally · 24/08/2017 15:07

Hello smelly friends...back after a holiday and with a name change.

SotD is 4160s Parallel - which I think contains mandarin petitgrain, caraway and frankincense (amongst other things). It strikes me as a quiet and thoughtful oriental (for the library rather than boudoir?). One of those rare and gratifying purchases when you buy on the strength of the listed notes and then really like the perfume.

Congratulations to Floofjunior.

Floof - I hope your RL friends appreciate you - your calendars sounds like fabulous presents. How will you source the samples?

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 24/08/2017 16:28

Well done little Floof! What a relief!
A heads up for anyone in the North east-Boyes sale has Jade for £10. I know I shouldn't but I did. For those September days when it decides it's going to be summer when I'm back at school.

MrsMacNally · 24/08/2017 19:00

Have been enjoying the seasonal selections...here are the things I reach for:

Spring's here (first nice day of the year)! - Seville a L'Aube.
Celebrating the luminous green light of Summer solstice - Ninfeo Mio.
Properly hot summer - Eau du Sud.
Getting into a cosier Autumn vibe - The Great Randello, Tea for Two, Londinium.
Winter consolation - Youth Dew, (L'Occitane's) Ambre, Ambre Sultan, LAdDM, Sahara Noir.
Rich plummy/gourmand Christmas - a vacancy! (But Calmina's recent creation would be a contender, should she ever choose to go into production...).
New year blues: Shazam!

Green Polish - I liked Dear Polly a lot too.

Knope2020 · 24/08/2017 20:51

I'm loving the addict 😁
It's delicious
I've got to be good this month....of course I said that last month! Sigh....

DailyMaui · 24/08/2017 21:04

SOTD was L'Air du Desert Marocain. Now I wanstbbowls over by this when I tried it last. Now I love it. The dry down on me is incense woody wondrousness.

SOTE (evening) is Timbuktu LAYERED with Prive Incense Satin Just to see if I can make it work. As my Granny used to say, god loves a trier.

Congratulations mini Floof. College will be amazing 😃

OCSockOrphanage · 24/08/2017 21:09

I have lurked recently. I'm a bit mid seasonal, so not up for anything very summery and not quite ready for woods and oudh. Cardinal is likely to stage a big come back soon. In recent usage, it has been Serpentine, (big galbanum but fast drydown) and Dries van Noten (FMalle) that have mainly ticked the box. The sandalwood is very easy to wear in the heat.

OCSockOrphanage · 24/08/2017 21:12

If you have had any warm weather of course. We haven't had much.

Judydreamsofhorses · 24/08/2017 21:15

Hurray for young floofy!

SOTD is JM Wood Sage. It just doesn't last on me. Have been to get my hair done so I am looking sharp for starting teaching next week. I think I may have forgotten how.

Knope2020 · 24/08/2017 21:31

I'm back at work tomorrow
Hair on Saturday for me!

Judydreamsofhorses · 24/08/2017 21:48

knope I was back a week ago, but classes don't start until Monday. It will be a baptism by fire, as I am teaching a full 9-5 with 45 minutes for lunch - I'm not sure if it's good to get my worst day out of the way at the start of the week or if it just means I'll be totally exhausted. Usually a Wednesday is my heaviest day, and it feels like it's just a hop and jump to the weekend once it's done.

MsRinky · 25/08/2017 11:25

SOTD: Vilhelm Purple Fig.

I tried most of the Vilhelms on my last trip to Liberty, and liked nearly all of them, plus the assistant was lovely. Maybe she could tell I had my birthday money and a Liberty loyalty voucher burning a hole in my pocket...

Puppylucky · 25/08/2017 11:26

Many congrats to Floofy Jr 😃
I am having a major new scent splurge this week and have just got my hands on CK Truth - green and fresh and ,90s in a good way - another winner after the earthy delights of CK Reveal

YouAndYourFloofyCatNose · 25/08/2017 11:32

Thank you for all the good wishes for LittleFloof (I love that nickname btw!) We are still on a high Smile Judy (and any other teachers/school staff) a big thanks to you all - a lot of my DD's teachers have spent their own free time giving her extra "help" and getting additional workbooks etc for her and just supporting her generally, especially when I was in hospital. She actually got an A in one subject and her teacher was crying I shall deliver a big hamper of tea/coffee/biscuits for the staff room in September!

MrsMac love your seasonal choices - I think this is why I'm finding it so hard as I think "winter perfume" and then end up thinking "well suchandsuch but then for a very cold day it would be suchandsuch but for a sunny winter day..."

Re advent calendars, I tend to just pick up samples in the later months of the year, from EBay, or department stores, or The Fragrance Shop (who always pop a couple in a bag for me). I do little decants from my own bottles too. They're not always high end stuff, there were quite a few (very nice) Avon samples last year Wink

It started as a bit of a project for the DC really when I had to stop working, doing lovely calendars for them kept me busy, then I started doing it for selected family and friends - I give them instead of a "proper" Christmas present. I really enjoy doing it, and people seem to be pleased - I've even done an aftershave one for my father!

I fear I may have unleashed a beast here Grin
