Ooh, Daily I smelt a couple of Vilhelms at the shop attached to the Somerset House Perfume Exhibition and liked them very much, especially Dear Polly, which is black tea, bergamot, apple and musk. I didn't like the prices so much but they do come in 18ml sizes so they aren't completely and totally unreasonable if anyone falls in love with them.
Floofy Midnight in the Naughty Cupboard sounds like something Sarah Mac needs to make. I just got Midnight in the Palace Garden for my birthday and it is gorgeously luscious. I fell in love with a sample ages ago so when it popped up at a discount in 4160's Naughty Cupboard I took it as a sign and hinted madly - ie opened a tab, led DH to it and said: "I would really, really like this for my birthday"...
The Somerset House Perfume Exhibition was fascinating. Do go if you have the chance. DD and I spent over two hours there last week and I think our noses had shut down completely from olfactory overload by the time we left. My favourite scent was Daphné Bugey's recreation of Coty's L'Origan in its glory days - such a heavenly, rich, powdery floral. It's a sin that something so lovely isn't on sale any more.
Silver I am late to the rosy party but these are some of my favourite rose scents: Frederic Malle's Portrait of a Lady and Une Rose, Juliette Has A Gun's Mad Madame, Lady Vengeance and Miss Charming, Yves Saint Laurent Paris, 4160 Tuesday's Who Knew, Agent Provocateur's signature scent and Le Couvent des Minimes Eau du Cloître.
SOTD is another birthday present, vintage Balmain Ivoire. Alas, there's only about an inch left in the bottle but it is such an elegant, complex aldehydic fragrance redolent of the very best sort of old handbag. Modern Ivoire simply doesn't compare. It just smells like Dove soap to me.
