Oh I'm glad!!
They are such well crafted scents imo - i can't believe the price!
Diamonds and rubies is a heady peachy rose concoction ❤ very very like my beloved sun moon stars
I still need to try ET passion

Judydreamsofhorses · 19/08/2017 20:00

SOTD is MMM Untitled. Totally wrong for the weather - hailstones.

Pestilentialone · 19/08/2017 20:28

SoTD is L'Eau de L'Artisan which tends to indicate I am having a low day.

Have been making smells though; vanilla essence made with a half bottle of cognac and 5 vanilla pods plus one all spice berry, Happy Birthday DT2. Also made herb vinegar, Sarah said herbs are the next big thing, sage vinegar but added lovage, a couple of cumin seeds and some ajwan. It is singing.

I was wondering if anyone here would be able to help me find a replacement fragrance choice...

I usually wear Stella as my posh choice and Kate by Kate Moss as my every day cheap option. However, recently I've found Stella has really poor staying power and totally disappears after about an hour or two of wearing, and Kate has been discontinued!

Any recommendations for a posh and every day replacements?

Knope2020 · 19/08/2017 20:34

If you like Stella have you tried YSL Paris?
I havent smelt the kate moss one but SJPs lovely gets rave reviews and is about £10

Pestilentialone · 19/08/2017 20:40

Silver Killer Rose by 4160 Tuesdays, I am still biased by our day trip but it is a sensible price rose that I really like despite my usual preference being rather skanky roses.

I'll definitely give Paris a smell when I go to the shops on Monday. Any others i might like if I like Stella you can think of?

Lovely is a no no for me simply because I associate it with my former (horrid) boss who wore it religiously!

SilverAndCold · 19/08/2017 20:41

pestilential where stocks that one?

Knope2020 · 19/08/2017 20:42

Also try narciso Rodriguez for her

Knope2020 · 19/08/2017 20:43

Pestilentialone · 19/08/2017 20:44

knope is there any particular one of the Elizabeth Taylor ones that you particularly recommend?

This is so helpful- thanks! Am making a list to smell my way through at John Lewis on Monday- keep em coming!

Knope2020 · 19/08/2017 20:52

I love diamonds and rubies which is a rose and peach scent...in fact it's what I'm wearing today!
The others are more white floral based I think...but there are several to try!

Knope2020 · 19/08/2017 20:53

Paul Smith rose is a pleasant rose scent

Calminaqualm · 19/08/2017 22:27

Silver, your problem at John Lewis if it is one of the smaller stores might be the limited range of rose fragrances. If they have Tom Fords in you could try Cafe Rose. It has the longevity you want but it's very different to Stella. If they have Serge Lutens or Montale in stock, they do rose perfumes. Also try and find a friendly knowledgeable sales assistant! Body Shop do cheap rose fragrances, Atlas Rose being very pleasant (and cheap!).

My first choice, though, would be Killer Rose from 4160Tuesdays, as already suggested.

Calminaqualm · 19/08/2017 22:31

I've just remembered, John Lewis do Sisley perfumes. Try their Izia. It is a beautiful citrussy rose.

SilverAndCold · 19/08/2017 22:40

It's a huge Lewis', I think I've seen Tom Ford and Sisley there before actually so will have a look for those. I can also look in other stores.

Is the Killer Rose an online only one?

SilverAndCold · 19/08/2017 22:41

Ps. Am sure I've got a Body Shop voucher languishing in the back of my purse so shall give the Atlas Rose a go

SparemetheDrama · 19/08/2017 23:03

Thank you so much for the lovely welcome! I have recovered from my DH's outburst - I was fine with the old hippie part, just the disgusting reference I was shocked by - perhaps it was the oak moss.
Pest - He seems well but maybe not for much longer... I'll keep you posted! He works away a lot so maybe I haven't worn it around him before, I lose track... I will save Mitsouko and enjoy it when he isn't around.
Knope - Thank you so much for the Yardley Jade suggestion, I will definitely check it out as my Cristalle is almost done!
Green - I definitely have had the old lady mention due perhaps to my love of classic guerlains and chanels. I have had some great recommendations for perfume from beautifully scented ladies of a certain age.
Floofy - A charity shop from the 90's, I love it!!

Sotd has been Arpege for the last two days. After the brief glimpse of sunshine that prompted the fresh and light, crisp citrus of Cristalle, the damp and cool weather brought the need for something more comforting, I love the warmth, soapiness and woody, powdery dry down, it lasts really well on me too and that's quite unusual. I have a vintage extrait which I only wear occasionally as I am trying to make it last, it's just beautiful.

Has anyone tried Chypre Charnel by Molinard? It's half price in the Les Senteurs sale and looks lovely on paper or maybe I just like the bottle...

Calminaqualm · 19/08/2017 23:08

I believe Killer Rose is online only, as it is quite a new one. But you could always email and ask, they are very friendly at 4160Tuesdays. If you are going to a large John Lewis, they may stock Francis Kurkdjian. They have several roses which are very beautiful (and very expensive!). I have a sample of Oud Satin Mood which I love, but it is very strong.

34AQuid · 20/08/2017 00:26

Hey peeps.

SOTD is Sisley Izia, so good to see it mentioned here. It's a great summer fragrance - very strong bergamot top note, but the drydown is a lovely young rose.

Silver - I'm a rose lover (among other fickle tastes!) and Bodyshop Atlas Rose is really nice - light, airy rose - but sillage and longevity are poor. It's body spray territory, basically. But if you layer it with the body lotion you get more performance, and it's nice and affordable.

I was also a hardcore Stella wearer in my thirties. Based on that I'd advise sniffing the following:

Tom Ford Cafe Rose - pricey, a rich Bulgarian rose and a bit of coffee, darker than Stell.

Fredric Malle Lipstick Rose - again, very pricey, and I haven't personally tried it, but it's a holy grail powdery rose for a lot of people.

Jo Malone does a couple of roses that get good reviews. Red Roses (linear red roses) and Velvet Rose and Oud, which is a darker, richer rose fragrance.

For something more affordable and day-to-day...

Balenciaga Florabotanica is a very fresh, green-with-roses fragrance. I found it sharp and acidic at first, but the drydown is lovely. Green tea and soft rose.

Lancôme Mille et Une Roses is a light, airy, low-sillage pink rose. It's not a wow, but it's really likeable and office-safe.

And if you want something light and floral, but not straight up rise - Givenchy Jardin D'Interdit and Chloe Love Story are both pretty and quite safe blind buys for light rosy/light floral lovers.

May also be worth trying out some Annick Goutal. Lovely florals in her repertoire.

34AQuid · 20/08/2017 00:30

Oh and the Paris flankers are goooood stuff if you like roses and want a rosier version of Paris. Paris Premieres Roses is my favourite. Hard to find in shops, but eBay is your friend. It's uber feminine rosiest of roses.

34AQuid · 20/08/2017 00:33

Knope . I've decided Passion and Black Pearls are my next splurge. I've become unhealthily obsessed with ET fragrances and I blame you Grin.

Knope2020 · 20/08/2017 01:02

Haha
They are both on my list too 😁🐑

Knope2020 · 20/08/2017 01:04

I completely forgot about Fredric malle!
Lipstick rose is nice but for full on skanky rose you need portrait of a lady 😁
I like smoky rose from the body shop. Very nice.
The only lush scent I like is karma!
