The workshop sounds like great fun - and some exciting outputs too!! Lovely to hear that Sarah and Nick were so nice - sort of makes you love the brand all the more! Very impressed with the names everyone's come up with - much better than the JM-ey "this this and this" approach.

Spent the day in a hot smelly meeting room so Sotd was liberally splashed Coromandel.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 14/08/2017 19:26

Oh, and tempted by the Oxford. Description sounds lovely...

Judydreamsofhorses · 14/08/2017 19:56

SOTD is FM Hiver. I've not even left the house today because it's cold and raining, but have tinted brows and lashes, and had a big bath with a face mask and hair mask, plus had a bit of a clothes sort out.

Has anyone tried the new Chanel Gabrielle perfume? I had a look in Boots yesterday but couldn't see it.

GreenPolishToGo · 14/08/2017 20:00

Sock Shock, poor Sock, what a nightmare for you. There's just nothing you can do about gridlock like that but when you're trying to get to a wedding it must be horribly frustrating and upsetting. I think you deserve a scented treat after such a disappointment.

We ( Calm, MrsC, MrsS, Pestilential and me) had a much happier day because the 4160s Workshop was blissful and most definitely to be recommended to anyone with a smidgen of interest in scent. I have worn nothing but my own concoction - Vipers' Outing - since, in my astonishment and delight at managing to produce something I really like under Sarah's guidance.

I really am rather rubbish at distinguishing individual notes so I wasn't that confident I'd create anything other than insect repellant, but Sarah (who is lovely, friendly, bubbling with enthusiasm and very, very knowledgeable) made it so much easier by giving us scent sticks of around 30 different notes so we could pick out notes we liked and then work out which we thought would work together before mixing up samples in small tester bottles and doing a lot of sniffing.

I learnt that my beloved galbanum is rather like using garlic in cooking - wonderful but you really, really don't want to overdo it. I ended up using just six drops of it in the final version of Vipers' Outing and the top notes are as sharp and green as freshly cut grass.

Everyone's creations were impressive and comically different - green, gourmand, smoky, leathery etc. I think between us we spanned practically the entire perfume spectrum except the pink minger class.

Sarah and her DH Nick were very welcoming and we got spoilt with samples, champagne and hefty discounts. I think I was very restrained stupid in only picking up Lemon Sherbert and Who Knew? Oh, and Eau My Soul plus surprise (and a very nice surprise it is too) from the latest 4160s crowd-funding project - but I'd already paid for that so it doesn't count, ahem.

It was fascinating, great fun and lovely to meet all these fellow beautifully scented, cute furry animal loving types of a certain age with dodgy teeth. Thank you Sarah and thank you MrsC for organising it all. When are we doing it again?! Smile

After all, I only have 29 bottles of 4160 Tuesdays, not counting samples...Wink

Pestilentialone · 14/08/2017 20:06

Oh help, I want to sniff everything and work out what is in it. Then I want to go back to Sarah's and sniff more ingredients. Repeat Ad infinitum. I've been to the opium den, I want to go back.

Have hidden my bottle in sock drawer. I can resist it. Saturday's stash.

Judy that sounds like a relaxing day.

Sitting on the patio of our apartment in Spain listening to the roar of crickets and having a drink (and losing hours in Fragrantica). Bliss!

Just put on some Ealing Green. DH is repulsed. 8 yr old DD thinks it smells 'delicious'. I told her a bit about 4160 and the workshops and she asked how old you have to be to do one as she wants to 'make perfume'. I may have a burgeoning perfumista on my hands! Grin

OCSockOrphanage · 14/08/2017 21:02

I thought I needed a scent treat too, and got as far as dropping the sale 50ml of Oxford in my basket. Then I bottled out. I have read nothing but great reviews for it (and it sounds right) but an FB untested? That is brave for a woman who has so many samples, many unloved, and a cupboard full of surprises. I have worn Vert d'Enscens for the last two days and while I stand by the opinion that it's a bit aloof and professional, it is also austerely gorgeous.

explodingkittens · 15/08/2017 07:45

SOTD - La Fille de Berlin. Second go with this one. On me it's just a very simple, vaguely soapy rose soliflore; I don't get much else and I think I'd like something a bit edgier in it, if that makes sense? Having said that it's a very wearable, clean, pretty, feminine scent - nowt wrong with that but maybe not 'me'. The colour is divine, though!

Knope2020 · 15/08/2017 08:13

It's me....mrsm and yet another nn change:)

Workshop sounded great fun.

Off out today...i may return with some addict:)

Pestilentialone · 15/08/2017 08:45

My PP Addict still hasn't arrived! Angry PP sent it on the 7th. I'm wondering if it has fallen foul of the Royal Mail regs,as my neighbours are denying nicking this one! I really want to try this one too!

Knope2020 · 15/08/2017 09:56

I'm trying to hold out til my b day....
I have so much perfume now that I should keep using that 😒

34AQuid · 15/08/2017 09:58

Just caught up on the workshop news. I am insanely jealous! Sounds fabulous. I love the babe 'Vipers Outing' for a fragrance, too Grin.

DailyMaui · 15/08/2017 10:18

Ms Rinky I have and it wasn't for me. I got it in a travel collection with La Fumee and Feuilles de Tabac. I preferred the other ones. I wore it but I wasn't enamoured.

I think I'm looking for something I won't find! I love the sea and beaches but perhaps I really don't want to actually smell like one.

Judydreamsofhorses · 15/08/2017 18:48

SOTD Heeley Sel Marin. dailymaui that might fit your beach brief?

PassiveAggressiveFloofiness · 15/08/2017 19:24

Have you tried What I Did on my Holidays? It's more...err...holidays than just the sea, but its loved here!

Knope2020 · 16/08/2017 08:44

I didn't buy addict yesterday
It's soooo £££ so I will wait til my b day
Sotd...not sure. Will let ds2 decide I think!

Calminaqualm · 16/08/2017 09:57

Maui, it's no longer made now, but Mugler's Womanity smells slightly sweet with salty notes (it's fig with caviar!). Perfume Parlour do a dupe which has good reviews. It might be worth a small bottle if it's the salty note you want.

PassiveAggressiveFloofiness · 16/08/2017 10:29

Has anyone mentioned the cheapie classic, SJP's Lovely? Lots of salt in this.

Puppylucky · 16/08/2017 11:47

Calvin Klein Reveal is a hidden gem - all sea and salt notes plus a woody dry down - it's beautiful!

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 16/08/2017 12:06

I've been mia for a bit. Very jealous at the Big Day Out. Ive sown the seed in Dh's mind.
I'm in a bit of a scent trough ATM. Dh declared that everything I wore smelt like zoflora. So I've been sticking to Miss Dior and RG. Roll on Autumn when I can get the big guns out.
Speaking of birthdays, mine is coming up too. I'm considering having a little Tauer excursion. What are everyone's favourites? Obviously old lady handbag mixed with church, or acid green and clean.

Knope2020 · 16/08/2017 12:09

No idea wrt tauer but have You tried;
Mitsuoko
Knowing
Paloma Picasso ?
All ^ imo are old lady handbag and church;)

explodingkittens · 16/08/2017 12:42

I gave Le Maroc pour Elle another go today - I can't get on with it. It's too powdery for me, so maybe it would fit your old-lady-and-church needs, OhWhat? Happy to send the sample if you'd like it!

Am going away for a few days on a course and can't decide what to take with me. It doesn't feel like a time to be experimenting with CdG, swanky elbows or similar Grin. I might just go with the Clarins Par Amour - it's roses and pencil shavings on me which is oddly appealing. Very inoffensive but not completely dull, either.

explodingkittens · 16/08/2017 12:43

Swanky elbows? Now there's a thought!
