DailyM mine get flogged off on eBay to generate funds for things I like...I try not to buy FBs except for genuine life-long loves, but TK Maxx is ruinous in this respect. If it makes you feel any better I did the exact same with a bottle of Bois Farine. Smelling of wet concrete is only fun for so long...

...Speaking of which, doesn't LT have a funny line on Mechant Loup in the A-Z, something like, "more wet dog, than naughty wolf"'?

All that said, I wouldn't be without my bottle Tea for Two which was a more successful L'A find in TK Maxx.

DailyMaui · 13/08/2017 19:23

In the inteeest of perfume science I have sprayed Timbuktu on my 14 year old DS and 12 year old DD. And Mechant Loupon DH.

Surely they will smell good on someone?

(I'm taking this rather too personally)

Pestilentialone · 13/08/2017 19:27

just because a vaguely niche brand is on sale at TKMaxx doesn't mean you have to buy every bottle you see Heresy Maui

I have Pamplemousse Rhubarb by L`Occitane , lovely as an expensive room spray, yuck on me. I also have Marc Jacobs Ginger Splash, same story. Ginger does not like my skin. Shame as my nose does like ginger.

It is Sarah's picture Exploding.

I was going to call it Bombfire as it is very smokey, but at the moment it has gone all milky woods. Instability is beginning to look like a good name.

Pest from that description I thought you'd be referencing DH Lawrence? But maybe it was somebody other than the gardener in the Camelia's?

Pestilentialone · 13/08/2017 20:00

Mellor's Progression?

Loving the tales of the 4160 workshop. I was thinking about you yesterday and wishing I was there.

SOTD Jo Malone Wood Sage again. I really like this, but it lasts so badly. Thankfully it was an eBay buy or I would be mighty fed up.

DailyMaui · 13/08/2017 20:50

Scientific results in.

It's me. I ruin perfume. The Timbuktu smells amazing on both my son and daughter - more sweet and woody on DS and lighter and woody/cit on DD.

MrsCocoa · 13/08/2017 20:51

Oh god, more awful typos - *camelias even. Way too much excitement and not enough time this weekend.

Calmina - you got away with it today - just don't try it in Waitrose...

Judy - have you done a 4160 workshop before?

DailyMaui · 13/08/2017 20:53

Arse - posted too fast. It's woody -fresh on my DD. I'm well jel.

The Mechant Loup is not as nice but still smells way better on the DH. Still too herby - there's no hazelnuts or honey - but it certainly doesn't smell of dog pee.

MsRinky · 13/08/2017 21:00

I'm glad you had a wonderful day at 4160s. I loved it when I went, although what I made was a bit generic, I wasn't brave enough. I'll try again some day.

Ruth Mastenbroek has done a redesign on her perfumes, so there may be some bargains around - I got a half price bottle of Oxford in the Les Senteurs sale and it is fabulous. Every day I've worn it, people have admired it. I had someone come to see me at work last week just to sniff me, after someone else had told her how fabulous I smelled!

Pestilentialone · 13/08/2017 21:35

DH is so impressed with the concoction he has cleans, polished and waterproofed my walking boots. So yeearree ny foalley it is. Mellors is the gamekeeper, DH the gardener.

Alas, no, mrsc. I'm in Scotland so these things are less easy for me without spending a fortune on travel and a lot of planning as I'm not able to take time off during term-time. I would absolutely love to, though. If there's another planned for next summer I will be in.

34AQuid · 13/08/2017 22:20

Hola from Espana, folks.

Sorry for not responding to other posts, but am very very poor sighted and on my weeny iPhone 5 screen, so will catch up and respond to the 4160 workshop goss and other juicy stuff when I'm back...

I've had a shocking perfume day. Maybe it's me? Started well with a liberal dousing of Sisley Izia, which is a great 'wake up' citrus fragrance for me, with a rosy dry down that's unusual and I find quite lovely. I had to leave my house for Heathrow at 3am, so it was perfect.

But then I hit the duty free testers. It was an horrific experience. Went for two Guerlains I don't really know - Idylle was grim - rotten fruit and over ripe banana that faded into a generic, boring, cheap smelling floral and then disappeared. Sob.

L'instant Guerlain was properly nauseating (weirdly have sniffed the now rare l'instsnt magic, which is powdery goodness). I have rarely had such a strong, negative reaction to a perfume and I don't use the word 'scrubber' lightly. It was nasty and made me retch.

In to Zurich (not a direct flight to Spain) and more testing. So disappointing! Elie Saab - sickly sweet, made me retch. Alien - horrific, 90s aftershave. Prada Iris - made me very queasy.

Maybe I'm coming down with something? Shock Sad. Never experienced this much sickening fragrance hatred !

Pestilentialone · 13/08/2017 22:40

There are a lot of pink mingers out there 34a£

Pest, the tube carriage smelt great! As you know, Sarah and Nick very kindly provided champagne and gave us free rein with all the samples so I ended up with Paradox, Indigo, Goodbye Piccadilly, Brigadoon, London 1969, Sexiest Scent on the Planet and Tart's Knicker Drawer as well as several tester dabs of my own! MrsS was opposite me smelling equally lovely pungent so I'm sure between us we caused the overcrowding on the train Grin

MsRinky you are a temptress. I've made the mistake of looking at the Les Senteurs website. Their sale is still on!

34AQuid · 13/08/2017 22:53

On the bright side I couldn't decide which perfume to bring so threw a load of little 4160 samples in my bag. Off the top think I have Ealing Green, Centrepiece, Paradox, goodbye Piccadilly, captured by candlelight and Mother Natures naughty daughter.

Dry 30 degree heat here so planning on saving perfume for night...let's see what works!

lasttimeround · 14/08/2017 07:08

The workshop sounds amazing. You lucky buggers.

Maui - your skin chemistry sounds a bit like mine. Some things just honk on me. And often I don't get the element I want in a scent on my skin.
Having said that I'm getting the incense-y bit of my shalimar dupe coming out beautifully in. Very nice for sleeping in.Smile

PassiveAggressiveFloofiness · 14/08/2017 09:36

The workshop sounds amazing! Vipers' Outing is such an inspired name! I think if I ever make a VO, I shall call my creation Skanky Elbows Grin I can't scroll back to check who smelt like a gherkin but that sounds amazing. I would love to smell like a gherkin, although I'm not sure what role play that would inspire in DH. A chance meeting in the Kosher Deli, perhaps? Grin

Welcome daily, this is definitely your tribe! Which PP home fragrance dusts have you tried? I'm also a lot bit obsessed with a scented house but currently using one of those electric diffusers which blows out steam like a spa, with essential oils.

Sorry you missed the wedding sock how frustrating. Ironic that I have one next week I would love to have an excuse not to go too but we only live ten miles away from it. I might be a bit too post op though Wink

3 I tested the L'instant Guerlain and also found it a scrubber and extremely disappointing. I thought maybe they had sprayed a bad bottle on me, but clearly not!

PassiveAggressiveFloofiness · 14/08/2017 09:40

Damnit I forgot to post the pic! Is this a photo of the crowds being attracted to the train containing a very fragrant calm and mrsS?

Floofi!!! Grin

DailyMaui · 14/08/2017 10:38

SoTD - Champaca Absolute. I really love this. It feels like a great summer perfume with my required level of dirt. Floral but creamy and woody. I'd love to actually smell a champaca flower.

House SoTD - teenage angst. My two are at an art course in London that I would cut my arm off to go to... The levels of drama queen this morning were astonishing.

explodingkittens · 14/08/2017 12:14

SOTD - Sel De Vetiver by The Different Co. I loved the salty top note of this, am now getting mainly grapefruity skin-scent which is fine as far as it goes (and office-appropriate I guess) but not exactly v exciting. File under 'meh', I think.

DailyMaui · 14/08/2017 12:37

Kittens - I would love a true salty sea scent but one with a bit of warmth. And not citrusy. I've yet to find one I really like.

MsRinky · 14/08/2017 13:58

Have you tried Fleurs de Sel by Miller Harris?
