The re-formulations of all the old greats has been a tragedy. Like painting over an old master in acrylic. Agree with Luca Turin that Guerlain etc should simply keep to the old formulae and print "not for use on skin" on the bottles. Then we can take our chances with allergy risks that clearly didn't bother many people in the decades before these stupid rules.

SirVixofVixHall · 06/08/2017 23:32

Oh and yes, Helena Rubenstein- My mother had the Heaven Sent and Apple Blossom in her dressing table drawer when I was tiny. Along with a minute blue glass bottle "evening in Paris"?? That she kept but never used.

SOTD -Verveine d'Eugene by Heeley. First day back at work after holidays, several very busy and stressful weeks coming up, needed something fresh and positive to wake me up!

Apparently there's a strong rhubarb note in this but I can't work it out. I like the idea though - any 'obvious' rhubarb perfumes you lovely lot could recommend?

Mrsmartell08 · 07/08/2017 08:25

Oh Ralph Lauren safari! Love that. My glam aunt wore that too.
Dc both have friends coming over this morning 😣
So I think it'll be something comforting - maybe sun moon stars

Mrsmartell08 · 07/08/2017 08:25

Hmmm
Lemon you say??
🐑

teta · 07/08/2017 10:26

Ooh love Verveine d Eugenia Exploding.Aedes de venustas is a stunning rhubarb with a touch of Hazelnut and incense and very long lasting.Hermes have a relatively new rhubarb as well which seems very one dimensional but many people enjoy it.
I'm really missing my Galbanum/oakmoss green perfumes as I took mainly floral samples with me.If I see Izia I spray myself with abandon. Its green and sharp at the beginning and lasts forever.I desperately need a spray of Cristalle or Safari right now, as it's so hot and humid.

Bois des iles Parfum is lovely but smells terrible in Asian humidity so don't dare wear it here.I bought it in Australia where it's their Winter ( still 17 degrees) and it smelt wonderful but then left for Cambodia the next day.Cambodia is the hottest most humid place ever and even our room with air con was too hot.

SOTD Pure Poison. I might have accidentally bought some Hypnotic Poison on Ebay, too .

Back later, folks!

Mrsmartell08 · 07/08/2017 12:22

I've bid yet again for some addict but I dont seem to have much luck with eBay

Sotd turned out to be next cashmere again

No way is this an EL sensuous nude dupe...its far nicer!!

IWantToSmellLikeAMemory · 07/08/2017 16:53

Vix- I have a tiny bottle of Dior Dior and one of Diorling. I'm missing Diorama though.

I have acquired most of my old Diors from ebay, and most frequently from ebay.de

Chester- Safari is magnificent- I'm always surprised that (iirc) Barbara Hermann disses it so completely, as to me, it's very reminiscent of the 60s, 70s sillage monsters that in turn mirror the vintage age.

Sotd is Lemon- late night last night with staff meal- we are into our final week now, and I lose 15 teachers and 150 kids so needed something perky.

SirVixofVixHall · 07/08/2017 17:52

What do they smell like? I think I remember Diorling, but wonder if I'm simply imagining it! Possibly it had been discontinued by the time I was buying Diorella. I have bought vintage Diorella from ebay but I'm reluctant to buy any more vintage perfumes in case they have gone rancid. Diorama seems to be the one that is never seen, I wonder if it only had a very short run?

SirVixofVixHall · 07/08/2017 17:53

SOTD is Parfum de Therese.

SirVixofVixHall · 07/08/2017 17:54

I've ordered Lemon, and a little bottle of Plum, a stack of dupe samples from that place suggested upthread, and some samples from Les Senteurs. Smile

34AQuid · 07/08/2017 17:56

I've never sniffed Diorling or Diorama

I have new formulation Diorella, Diorissimo and Dioressence, but I'd love to smell a drop of the old stuff, Vix. I'll PM you.

I must take a look at ebay.de...I'm desperate for some Midnight Poison, but it rarely comes up on ebay.co.uk, and when it does its for silly prices.

All the talk of mum fragrances inspired a conversation last night with my Mum. She told me the first perfume she ever wore was Yardley Flair circa 1960 (she was 14 and she and her best friend jointly purchased and then shared a bottle Grin). She said she'd kill to smell it again (she is now a Chanel 19 lover Grin)...so I found ONE half empty bottle of it going for a song on Ebay and bought it. Her birthday soon, so will add that to the uninspired Amazon vouchers I have got her Grin.

SirVixofVixHall · 07/08/2017 18:19

34, yes, pm me, I'll hunt out some suitable receptacles and post you some.

IWantToSmellLikeAMemory · 07/08/2017 18:48

I think one of my grandmothers had Flair. Is it in a pale blue bottle? I think I can remember a talc, in a kind of bluey purpley container with gold writing. I'm off to google.

Diorling is wonderfully leathery after the top notes go. (actually, my top notes are completely gone so mine hits the leathery bosky bit almost immediately)

IWantToSmellLikeAMemory · 07/08/2017 18:50

Oh yes, the Flair is the one I remember.

MrsCocoa · 07/08/2017 20:41

Saturday perfume making workshop: we're all confirmed, 10.30 for 11 am start... The plan is to work through til 3pm, and eat together afterwards, if you are able to stick around. (So have a big and sustaining breakfast...!).

Still a couple of places left for anyone interested....let me know if you need details.

34AQuid · 08/08/2017 01:32

Just spritzed two sprays of Truth or Dare before bed. Niiiiiiiiice love juice. Was scared of this before - strong! - but now in love/lust with this baby!

explodingkittens · 08/08/2017 07:11

SOTD - Miller Harris L'Air De Turn. Wow. This is...i think I might love this but I'm not so sure my work colleagues will! Top notes were undeniably skanky on me. In fact the crook of my elbow still smells, frankly, like the kind of poo you have the morning after too much red wine... Thus it was very nearly a scrubber, but I stuck with it and it's now settling to a lovely amber/vanilla with a hint of something boozy in the background. So now I just smell as if I've not been home Wink

I think I might really want to be the kind of woman who wears this perfume, not sure if I am though!

explodingkittens · 08/08/2017 07:12

L'Air De Rien obvs Hmm flipping phone. Although I do possibly smell as if I'm on the turn...

Mrsmartell08 · 08/08/2017 07:55

Dentist today :(
Suggestion for sotd?

MrsCocoa · 08/08/2017 08:59

Have you got access to any L'Heure Bleue Mrs M? Might work on a couple of levels - the clove note might sit harmoniously with the smell of the surgery and it's meditative properties might transport you...? You could drift away on a line of thought on perfume, melancholy and the sublime Smile.

Mrsmartell08 · 08/08/2017 09:17

I haven't mrsc
I'm desperate to try it but the bloody dept store I go to doesn't have it.
Grr
I'm not looking forward to this 😔

MrsCocoa · 08/08/2017 09:41

You have my sympathy MrsM. What are your most soothing options?
