Hello lovely perfumed ones

Just back from two weeks in Valencia/Madrid. Not much happened on the perfume front except for an ill-advised buy of Lush's Sun, which starts with a very appropriate blast of oranges and lemons and then completely disappears over the next 5 mins...hey ho.

Avoided duty free for the sake of my bank balance, but came home to find a package of samples from Nose, one of which is today's SOTD - Petit Matin by MFK. This is odd - quite an ordinary cologney citrus on my skin, but 'around me' I can very definitely get good wafts of a rather delicious burnt caramel type scent instead. Not bad at all.

IWantToSmellLikeAMemory · 04/08/2017 17:30

I reckon Bandit might be up your street Vix- although as I am drenched in Rive Gauche today as I am tired and have to wine-cheese schmooze Chinese/Japanese/Korean/Italian clients this evening and am knackered so needed something that is me to provide a barrier between me and them, I'm perhaps not the person to advise you.

My Perfume Society travel edition thingy just arrived. Looks intriguing and a few sniffs of bits and bobs already has me wondering if the Molton Brown shower gel (coastal cypress and sea fennel) has a perfume as it's gorgeous.

MrsC- plenty of mossy chypres in my repertoire so I'll play around a bit with the Paris.

I decided after the Addict settled into really sweet vanilla that I probably won't be reaching for it on cold afternoons after all. I get the petitgrain bit- orangey fruity but not the rest. It's only a PP dupe but if anyone wants it PM me while I'm in the country! It might motivate me to pack up the Gap and Boden trousers that need to go back. Grin

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 04/08/2017 17:48

Sotd has been Mary Greenwell Lemon. Nice - not at all fairy liquidy on me and just right for an optimistic Friday-at-last sort of day.

How did you get on 3? My supervision of my own two led to a second trip to a and e in just over a week yesterday so I'm definitely in awe...!

Judydreamsofhorses · 04/08/2017 18:46

SOTD Diptyque Philosykos, for a day of mooching about the house - I have started doing some work as there's only a week and a half until I go back. God!

OCSockOrphanage · 04/08/2017 20:38

Clearly not my place to suggest perfume for you SirVix as I only wear a couple from your middle list. But

OCSockOrphanage · 04/08/2017 20:41

Hmm< laptop issues> being brave, perhaps you'd like incense and oudh? In which case, the PP Sahara Noire dupe is lovely and has been SoTD. Sadly the real deal is discontinued.

MrsPestilence · 04/08/2017 21:02

Cheap I have been wearing Mary Greenwell's Lemon since someone said it smelt of washing up liquid. It is actually very grown up for a citrus scent with flowers and moss plus woody amber stuff. Not just for summer either, I like it.
Just realised I started this thread and then name changed and vanished for a bit. Might have to RTFT, name change back and play hostess.

34AQuid · 04/08/2017 21:15

Hello all

Solo picnic was OK. But followed by bowling party with a 12 yr old, 9 yr old (both mine) and 3 yr old niece. Fairly hellish, but survived Grin.

I really want some Lemon! Arghhhh! Baaaaa!

I might name change soon, too, as like my relative MN anonymity...but shall identify myself to you lot Grin.

Just tried a sample of 4160 Mrs Gloss lemon sherbet special edition, btw. Very lovely...but lasts about 10 minutes on me (although my skin does eat fragrance). Boo.

34AQuid · 04/08/2017 21:17

Btw...looking after a 3 yr old has completely cured me of any remaining shreds of broodiness. Probably a good job, as I'm 40 and DH is 50 Grin. But fook me, toddlers are hard work. Even the good ones. Exhausted!

SirVixofVixHall · 04/08/2017 21:24

I thought I would love Bandit, I got a sample from Les Senteurs, but sadly I didn't... I can't pinpoint why now as the sample has died. Certainly do seem to love anything by Edmond Roudnitska. I do like Femme, but a friend wore it and so it is "her" to me. Might be time for a re-visit? Same is true of Magic Noire , which I liked but a close friend wore a lot, and Yatagan. Might re-visit Yatagan if I get a chance. Don't like the Paloma Picasso or Givenchy. I gave Chergui a try but there was something I didn't like there, some undertone. Will try the darker 4160s as suggested. I thought I would love Nuit Etoilee (Goutal) but there is a mintyness to it that I am not keen on. I'm going to have a re-read of the perfume guide and run the ones I like the sound of by you experienced people! I have a huge jar of samples that are dead now and need to be thrown, i must have spent a fortune on them.

pestilencalone · 04/08/2017 21:38

DD has been asked to pick up a bottle of Estee Lauder Adventurous from duty free for her DSM. It has been discontinued, any suggestions?
Judy glad to hear the skirt disaster has been sort of sorted. Though two does seem excessive.
34a£ DH and I were discussing today how small kids are a pain and it is wonderful that they grow up. DD22 was unsure whether it was a dig or a complement. Hopefully grandchildren are a way off.
Still got funny sinuses from having a cold a couple of weeks ago. I can smell, but not quite how I used to. This is going to cause me to be grumpy if it continues.

MrsPestilence · 04/08/2017 21:43

Failed at changing back to OP name [embarrassed]

MrsPestilence · 04/08/2017 21:43

Blush I'm off to find some gin

SirVixofVixHall · 04/08/2017 21:55

Gin is the perfume lovers choice of spirit surely? Or perhaps Poire William?

MrsCocoa · 04/08/2017 23:12

Good idea Pest ...have just joined you (drinking neat as tonic was flat).

SirVix - I tried the current Bandit recently and didn't like it. I adore Cabochard and have high hopes for the remains of a bottle of Azuree that's currently on its way to me. Am keeping an eye out for Jolie Madame and Miss Balmain in affordable quantities on eBay.

IWantToSmellLikeAMemory · 05/08/2017 09:42

Morning all.

SoTD AG Eau d'Hadrien- another one for the FB list, and to show how my tastes have changed I am wryly remembering sniffing this donkeys years ago and thinking meh. It doesn't last very long though, and having been up since 6.30 have already had to find an excuse to go to my room (I sound like I'm in Malory Towers and tbf, that's not far from the truth) for a respray.

I so have to get some of this Lemon stuff. from me too.

34AQuid · 05/08/2017 09:54

Morning all.

My Addict arrived Grin. Amazing stuff. This could be my first vanilla true-love. Its not sickly sweet and I'm really getting the tonka, sandalwood and some narcotic white florals. There is a little bit of Pure Poison (one of my favourite white florals) here, too.

I'm currently lounging on the sofa in PJs and with full-on bed head, yet I feel like an old Hollywood sex symbol wearing this Grin. Many thanks fr the heads up, mrsm. Another winner!

On the downside, my sister brought me back some duty free fro her holiday and because I like Paris, she got me Mon Paris. It smells like LVEB and Angel had a baby and dipped her in strawberry jam. Hideous.

Mrsmartell08 · 05/08/2017 09:56

I was contemplating the lemon last night too 🐑but our summer seems to be over here...
Usual day here of housework, odd jobs (dh will be in the shed all day no doubt!) And cooking
Sotd...prob cashmere again

Mrsmartell08 · 05/08/2017 09:58

Oh im so glad you like it!!
It's just divine isn't It?
😁
Mon Paris is vile - a proper PM!

IWantToSmellLikeAMemory · 05/08/2017 10:45

I think our next thread title should be:

"NOT the baby of LVEB and Angel dipped in strawberry jam" Grin

A (male and rather lovely) colleague was pursued down the corridor by me sniffing him- "Bulgari aqua something" apparently.

Another colleague was recoiled at, but when I diplomatically asked what hers was it's "original Chloe" (if she means original orange Lagerfeld box Chloe it definitely wasn't! I am guessing she means the latest incarnation of "original" Chloe. It was PM and she is taking a group of kids to the theatre today so gawd help the people sitting next to them.

explodingkittens · 05/08/2017 10:59

SOTD - Malle's Angeliques. Am getting lots of black pepper from this, which I really like. Off to check the fragrance notes, because so far, with almost everything I've samples, I seem to get something completely different from what I'm supposed to get Grin

teta · 05/08/2017 11:09

Hi,I haven't posted for ages as I seemed to have lost my perfume Mojo. But I'm having a lovely time ' shopping' on holiday with dd's.As they do the clothes shops I'm doing the perfume exclusives. The Dior lady was wonderful in the Kuala Lumpur shop. She sprayed a scented card for each in a book of perfume descriptions and went through every perfume. The Chanel one in contrast was so rude and snooty that I walked out mid conversation . The Chanel in Melbourne had the most lovely warm sales lady and I ended up buying some Bois de iles parfum.
I live very rurally and it's very rare I get to try any of these exclusives normally apart from samples occasionally in swops.

SirVixofVixHall · 05/08/2017 13:21

Mrs Cocoa- another friend wore Azuree, it was very nice. Cabochard, hmm, yet another friend's favourite, it is lovely I agree.
My 4160 samples arrived. Tried Tart's knicker drawer first. Liked the smell from the bottle, didn't like it on at all at first spritz, then it moved towards something much nicer, before settling at the familiar smell that I associate with all the 4160s I've tried (waht is that?) anyway, I don't like it. I WANT to like it, but no. Then i tried Doe in the Snow, thought that would be the best bet, liked the initial burst, but very quickly turned to Fairy Liquid. Perfectly pleasant, but not what i want to smell of . (WHY Fairy? What can I smell there? Anyone know?)
Then Paris 1948. I like the peachyness, but not how it dries down, again that familiar 4160 smell. Although DH said it reminded him of French holidays as a child (I hadn't told him the name). Anyway, like so many others, I want to love it, but in fact it makes me feel a bit green. Which leads to Ealing Green- I've just sprayed that on, and I really like it! My favourite so far. Reminds me strongly of the old Vent Vert, that bright cut grass note. Will see how it dries down on me. Then i have Who Knew? to try, and I'm ploughing through the Tanya Sanchez and Luca Turin guide for more inspiration.

SirVixofVixHall · 05/08/2017 13:22

teta- I've never tried Bois des Isles-what do you think of it?

SirVixofVixHall · 05/08/2017 13:30

Iwanttosmelllikeamemory- That old Chloe was lovely. I used to babysit for someone whose house always smelled of it as she would spray it all over.
