Oh you bastards, I just tipsy-online ordered some addict on my credit card. Slippery slope! Argh!!!! Grin.

Only 30mls though

Mrsmartell08 · 03/08/2017 20:53

Sorry!!!
not sorry
😂

Mrsmartell08 · 03/08/2017 20:54

I can't believe I've missed it for so long vintage!

SirVixofVixHall · 03/08/2017 20:59

Keep reading PP on the thread but have no idea what it means, can someone enlighten me? SOTD was Dryad again, I thought I'd give it another try, but nope, I don't like it. PM me someone if you'd like me to pass on the sample.

Mrsmartell08 · 03/08/2017 21:04

PP = perfume parlour
They do dupes of Many fragrances.
Some swear by them but I've not had much luck :(
I've ordered some next cashmere - it's a lovely powdery musk and only £8 for 30 MLS :) it'll have to do until I can afford some addict
Btw...the next dupes are pretty good imo...flowers is a decent daisy by Marc jacobs dupe.
Eau nude is a good coco mademoiselle copy.
They have also just launched a new range which I haven't tried but which seem a bit jo malone-esque

MrsCocoa · 03/08/2017 21:39

Went to York today and discovered Burgin's perfumery has closed after 137 years trading. (We're all buying from the internet Sad). It was a brilliant shop stuffed full of interesting things - very sad news.

SotD is L'AdDM. Comfort needed.

Puppylucky · 03/08/2017 21:42

I love Addict! I ration my wears of it so that I don't become nose blind to it. On me it starts off slightly herbal (pettigrain according to Fragrantica) before mellowing into a soft Tonka and Vetyver musk. It has had three incarnations - original, 2010/12 reformulation and 2014 - all seem to have their fans but the 2010/12 version is seen as the best - you can still get samples on eBay and it is glorious

MrsCocoa · 03/08/2017 21:44

IWtSLaM - try layering Paris 1848 with your mossiest chypre (I use Empreinte) - to my taste it needs a bit more bass to balance the peach.

MrsCocoa · 03/08/2017 21:45

*1948 even Blush

SirVixofVixHall · 03/08/2017 22:11

Thank you. MrsCocoa- Mossy chypres I usually like- I've never heard of Empreinte, is that Courreges?
Also like peach. Thought I'd tried Paris 1948, but am not wondering- I did try the Rome one.

MrsCocoa · 03/08/2017 22:23

Yes, Courreges - even the reformulation is well reviewed. It's a classic dry smokey chypre.

SirVixofVixHall · 03/08/2017 22:46

Oh, I'll try it. I want something new. I'm in Ormonde Jayne most of the time, but also want to fall for something new.

34AQuid · 04/08/2017 10:18

SOTD is 4160's Mrs Gloss.

I'm taking a gang of small children on a picnic on my own today, so I needed a frivolous and fun fragrance Grin.

Pray for me!

SirVixofVixHall · 04/08/2017 11:56

I've ordered samples of 4160's Paris 1948, Ealing Green, Tart's Knicker Drawer and Doe in the Snow. I have a cupboard full of samples yet nothing so far is striking enough lurrvve for a full bottle. All the ecnts I've loved have changed so horribly in recent years that I feel stuck. If I loved these in their true incarnations, what else might I like?
Loved-

Mitsouko
Diorissimo
Diorella
Christalle
Nuit de Noel
Molinard de Molinard
Habanita
Eau D'Hadrien
Ormonde Woman
Eau Sauvage
Liked a lot, and have worn-
Ambre Sultan
Eau de Ciel (Annick Goutal)
No. 5
No. 19
Miss Dior
Fidjii
24 Rue Faubourg
L'eau D'Hiver
Mimosa Pour Moi
Philosykos
Premier Figuier
Rose Gold (Ormonde Jayne)
Paris (the old one)
Loathed with a passion-
Rive Gauche
Madame Rochas
Lou Lou* *Most hated perfume of all time (Rive Gauche is second)
Samsara (Would have been fine as furniture polish, which is what is smells like to me)
That ghasty sugary one was it Thierry Mugler?
Dolce Vita (and almost all other contemporary big hit perfumes from Dior, Chanel, Guerlain , like the re-jigs of Miss Dior etc)

So what to try next? If any of you like similar things to me what else do you love?

Mrsmartell08 · 04/08/2017 12:44

Haha sirvix
I think you might be my EFT so no ideas for you im afraid!
Sotd is cashmere by next. Powdery musk. Lovely 😊

34AQuid · 04/08/2017 12:48

SirVix - 4160 fragrances took a while to grow on me. I kept returning to the samples occasionally until I found a couple of 'loves'. Doe in the Snow is one of them. Big, fruity, aromatic , super-aldehyde chypre with insane longevity. My absolute favourite winter fragrance.

From your preferences, I would have thought Guerlain would be your house....but maybe you need to go more niche? I'm not that clued up yet but sure some of the other perfumistas can advise.

Have you tried any of the Frederick Malle fragrances?

PassiveAggressiveFloofiness · 04/08/2017 13:03

Sirvix an obvious one but have you tried Shalimar? I'm an amateur compared with proper Perfumistas on this thread, but what about Tauer? Lonestar Memories is loved here, I know.

I think Addict is the new Jade . I have ordered the PP dupe though as have spent all the disposable and not disposable funds on a new selection of hair scarfs as my hair is falling out again Angry. The cat is also shedding her floofiness, either in sympathy or in a taking the piss out of me way. Hence the name change Wink

SOTD is Black Opium which has definitely turned from hate to love although I wish there was a way we could hasten towards the drydown of certain perfumes. I still dislike the beginning of Black Opium (just shortened that to BO then realised my error Grin)

Mrsmartell08 · 04/08/2017 13:27

Sir...you seem to like chanel! Have you tried allure and chance?

lasttimeround · 04/08/2017 13:30

Sir vix - I don't think I can help mitsouko stinks on me while samsara is glorious.

My pp order is a bunch of scents I've been coveting. Dune womanity, mimosa and cardamon, terracotta and shalimar. Sadly kenzo jungle elephant is out of stock as that's my other thing I really really want.
In this wet weather I'm getting lots of love out of my quands viens la pluie? But I've gone for some summer scents mimosa snd terracotta to help console me against the wet mucky weather

SirVixofVixHall · 04/08/2017 13:33

34- there are a couple of the Malles on that list I think? Maybe just one, forgot to put on Dans Tes Bras and Parfum de Therese (into likes list).
Don't like Shalimar. Not sure why, I like some Guerlain scents but not others. Loved the old L'Heure Bleue and Mitsouko, but don't like Shalimar or Samsara. Liked the old Vol De Nuit.
Generally do NOT like anything by Creed.
MrsMartell what is EFT?

Mrsmartell08 · 04/08/2017 13:33

They weather is awful isnt it? ☔
I think that's why I'm going for the comforting scents in my collection...all the musky powdery loveliness 😁

SirVixofVixHall · 04/08/2017 13:34

HATE Allure and Chance. Haven't tried Sycomore, I wonder about that.

Mrsmartell08 · 04/08/2017 13:36

EFT=evil fragrance twin 😂
You like many chanels which I loathe
I also wore Lou Lou when younger - although I did smell it a few weeks ago and was 🤔😣
Mitsuoko is the only guerlain I like
I would suggest to try a couple of estee lauders;
Sensuous nude
Bronze goddess
Spellbound

MrsCocoa · 04/08/2017 15:00

Lots to like on that list SirVix!

So maybe you should join me on the quest to track down the remaining Edmond Roudnitska's that don't already feature on your list? Have you already got some vintage Femme? Or for similar dynamics with a modern twist, some Zoologist Civet?

The most rewarding stuff I've sniffed this year is mostly vintage (mainly 70-s mid 80s) , so:

Reference greens:
Magie Noire & Yatagan

Reference chypres:
Givenchy III, Paloma Picasso and Y.

Beyond that, how about woody/incense things - some of the Comme des Garcons? Or other Serge Lutens - Chergui?

Ps. You might like to try some of the darker 4160s - Shazam!, The Great Randello, Who Knew?, Midnight in the Palace Garden, Inevitable Crimes of Passion?
