The vintage obsession was a game changer. No doubt.
But as an oriental...there are "better" ones out there imo.
I loved it, I was bought a bottle for my 21st birthday in 93 and felt very grown up :)

Mrsmartell08 · 01/08/2017 09:30

....and the new flanker - obsessed - is vile

FloofyCat · 01/08/2017 10:27

Yes I have been very unfair to TF as I am yet again wearing Neroli Portofino and this has actually become a "Regular Go To" which has surprised me!

I definitely remember Obsession being very one note, it wasn't layered at all was it?

JM Rose and Oud, MrsM if you are near a Primark they do a Rose Oud in a polka dot packaging which smells similar and is really lovely. I'm not a Primark perfume fan generally but this was good. Limited Edition though I think. So probably no help at all Grin

I sincerely hope Perfumistas are having better weather than we are having oop North. It's very, windy and cold and it's August. I want to wear my VI Water and floaty dresses, instead I am in thermal socks and eating cheesecake for breakfast Grin

Mrsmartell08 · 01/08/2017 13:32

Been to town and had another spray of Dior addict - oooh it's dreamy 😁

IWantToSmellLikeAMemory · 01/08/2017 13:58

Hello lovelies, it's me, Vintage-PIAM. Going undercover Grin

IIRC Opium is the one most likened to Cinnabar, rather than Obsession, although all of the same era, and yes, absolutely 100% down to marketing. Opium was considered naughty and risque from the advertising down to the name itself, and caused shockwaves. Obsession followed on from that with the first advert being cloaked in mystery (were there 2 or 3 bodies in the bed? I still have the original advert somewhere that I had taped to my wall) Reformulated Obsession is a shadow of its former skanky self.

Well, today I am in Paris 1948. Meh. Seriously underwhelmed. It's like a watered down version of (new formulation) Y or Apres L'Ondee. Sweet violet.

Yesterday and the day before was PP Rive Gauche (I got the biggest bottle they do, as I know their version is absolutely fabulous and even better than the (reformulated) real thing.

I wore the Lion Cupboard earlier on Sunday. It is utterly utterly foul for 20 minutes. Listerine and Venos cough mixture. Then it settles into a Taueresque beauty. Less gobsmackingly amazing than the Tauers but the spice-resin-balsam thing is going on. You just have to remember not to go out in public for the first 20 minutes of hideousness. Grin

You've now got me almost convinced I need to schlep up to the Perfume Shop on the local high street to get a bottle of Lemon as I even like the fairy liquid idea. But remember I loathed your darling Fire with a passion!

Mrsmartell08 · 01/08/2017 14:11

Hello!
Mmmm I loved opium too but my mum wore it so I always thought of it as being for "old women" she was in her 40s at the time 🙄😂
I am def going to purchase some Dior addict for my b day in October. The edp is rather ££££ so I will get the smallest bottle and apply sparingly!
Been to dentist today and I need a crown!!! 😪
Also had to send some shoes back to Boden...god I loved the look of them but wearing them was purgatory 😖
I have had my winter boots re soled and heeled today so am feeling organised.

IWantToSmellLikeAMemory · 01/08/2017 14:19

I have some trousers that need going back to Boden, and some that need to go back to Gap. The Gap ones are awful- really nasty fabric, while the Bodens are regular not long, and I am a giraffe. Grin

Mrsmartell08 · 01/08/2017 14:26

Sadly I am more hobbit sized with hobbit feet too and Boden regular is usually pretty good for me so am very sad about these shoes - I bought two pairs in the sale I loved them so much.
I wore them for about 2 hours and got awful blisters
Ugh

IWantToSmellLikeAMemory · 01/08/2017 14:33

I have just recovered from Fitflop induced blisters. They feel great now, but I got through about a box of elastoplast!

Afternoon perfume lovers!

Just catching up on the thread.

IsItOnATrolley - I second trying some of the Guerlain Aqua Allegorias if you want lemony/citrus/fresh. If you can find it, Lemon Fresca. Herba Fresca and Pamplelune might be worth a try, too. I'm kicking myself for not ordering MG Lemon when it was all ver the pace for tuppence. Sounds promising.

Obsession is one of those fragrances (like Poison) that I just can't revisit yet. Its so reminiscent of my teens. My friend had a really cool, rocker dad who drowned himself in it. I still associate it with cool, slightly Jim Morrison-esque guys Grin.

No SOTD today as I'm in full-on housework mode and I'm not wasting good perfume on that! So its currently eau de Fairy Liquid and Flash for me.

MrsM - hope your boy's toe is OK! My DS's toenail came off last summer in what we no call Stubbed Toe-gate in our hour. It cracked down the middle and he had to have surgery to stitch up the nailed - a week before we were going on a beach and pool holiday. That was fun!

34AQuid · 01/08/2017 15:03

typos galore, sorry!

Mrsmartell08 · 01/08/2017 15:07

Oooooh 3!!!!
That sounds hideous. Poor lamb.
Hoping ds1 can get away with just dressings...taking it off tonight so we shall see...
The aqua allegorias do nothing for me...too subtle perhaps.
I like lemon scents. But more so in room fragrance.

SirVixofVixHall · 01/08/2017 15:45

SOTD Superstitious. I like it, it is really familiar but I can't pinpoint why? Not something I think I want to buy a full bottle of, but maybe, as it is getting nicer as time goes by. I ordered three samples from Les Senteurs, this one, Dans tes Bras, which I keep re-trying as I'm tempted to buy a full bottle, and Dryad. Thought I would love love love Dryad but it isn't right on me.

Maudlinmaud · 01/08/2017 15:59

Hello Perfume people. I pop up occasionally when I've bought a new scent.
Well it was another blind buy, I've been quite successful up to now but this time, I'm not so sure. Hadn't heard of this perfume before, Perry Ellis, Perry woman. It reminds me of something but I can't put my finger on it. I feel it's definitely more of a unisex fragrance, with an aftershave scent at first but it does settle. Anyway I'm undecided.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 01/08/2017 18:27

Afternoon everyone! I got a bit lost two threads ago (missed that scarf of a thousand scents... boo!) but I think I'm all caught up now!

Got round to trying some 4160 Tuesdays after the our modern lives set which were OK but none I'd rush back for. SOTD was Tokyo Spring Blossom - was prepared for it to be a real favourite but on me it loses the top notes in an instant and goes straight to powdery violet. Not horrible but not really my thing. Liked Rome whatever-year-it-was but I get nervous wearing anything tobaccoey out in case people think I smoke so it's an at home one. Also liked Paris whatsit- more Peach than I expected but not unpleasant. Really liked London thingy. Only had the tiny sample of that so wishing I had more! Would go for it if they have it on the weekly half price offer.... Also have some Tarts Knicker Drawer, Goodbye Piccadilly and free sample of Sexiest Scent to try.

And am waiting for some Lemon (so easily led...!) and Lovely to arrive to see what the fuss is. Am coveting some Tauer samples from Les Scenteurs but they'll have to wait a month- this is a nightmare month at work so all spare funds are going towards gin! Given the price, I'm guessing they're teeny tiny ones?

Sympathies to those sorting DCS out. 18 month old DS had to go to a and e last week with a nasty cut to his head and seems to taken from the experience a sense of "I'm unbreakable!!". Gah!

MrsCocoa · 01/08/2017 20:26

IWtSLaM - how interesting re: Paris 1948 - it's got a nuclear peach note on me which drowns out almost everything but the moss. Violets don't get a look in. Fingers crossed for you and Lemon. PM me with your address if your want me to send you some 'Sid'.

MrsSchadenfreude · 01/08/2017 20:54

Paris 1948 is nuclear peach on me too - I don't get much else at all. The Great Randello also has a peach hit on me too, but smells completely different on DH.

SOTD is Boccioli di Limone by Monotheme, which is a citrus that does actually last (as does Verde d'Arancia, which I love too).

Judydreamsofhorses · 01/08/2017 21:42

SOTD is JM Wood Sage again.

I was another Obsession fan, and often sniff it in Boots. I started off with Eternity though, and used to drench myself in it when I was at uni. I genuinely can't smell it now without feeling vaguely ill, which is weird because I mainly think very fondly of my student days.

Mrsmartell08 · 01/08/2017 22:50

Now eternity is another one I should like...by Sophia grosjman no less!
But...ugh.
No. It's a bit...bland?
As I'm sure you've all figured out I dont really go for "subtle" Fragrance wise...😀

MrsCocoa · 02/08/2017 08:14

Accidental SotD is Magie Noire (was reaching for Eau du Sud and had an attention lapse).

34AQuid · 02/08/2017 10:05

SOTD is Paris Premieres Roses - which weirdly smells exactly like how I remember the original Paris from the 80s/90s - really rosy and peachy. The new formulation Paris is drier and more smoky.

I slept in my new Mitsouko last night and it was lovely Grin.

Mrsmartell08 · 02/08/2017 10:08

Sotd is sun moon stars

OCSockOrphanage · 02/08/2017 10:33

Dries van Noten again... it works in this grey August drizzle. Definitely headed for the shortlist.

Mrsmartell08 · 02/08/2017 10:52

I've got on 100ml addict edp 😣

Mrsmartell08 · 02/08/2017 10:53
