Ah I didn't realise there were two!
The ysl one is meh

MrsCocoa · 30/07/2017 10:07

I had a bottle of the old one many years ago and am looking to replace it via eBay just to remember what it smelt like...! It's definitely green...I looked it up on Fragrantica and it has a big basil note - which goes to show, even in my pre-obsessive years, I was quite consistent Smile.

Mrsmartell08 · 30/07/2017 11:05

I smelt a lovely room fragrance in t k Maxx yesterday and thought of you mrsc!
Lemon, rose and basil....lovely 😁

MrsPestilence · 30/07/2017 17:24

Serve Lutens being repackaged into 100ml bottles in near future. Another one that will probably hit the discounters sometime soon.

Mrsmartell08 · 30/07/2017 17:37

Poeme lovers...t k Maxx have 100mls for £79. 99

MrsCocoa · 31/07/2017 00:23

That sounds lovely MrsM - although well stocked following an outrageous splurge at Christmas on a beautiful box of l'Artisan Ambre room stuff (also TK Maxx).

Wow Pest - will be looking out for that. There was a peachy period at TK Maxx a couple of years ago for SL. Still kicking myself for not buying Ambre Sultan when I had the chance.

After a month away from eBay I've just bought the dregs of a bottle of Azuree - having just been inspired by re-reading the Turin/Sanchez review. Hope it's in decent nick.

Spent the day getting to know B** a bit better. It's quirky, but it's fabulous. After the dank earth and vegetal notes fade there is a lighter fruity vetiver which lasts a long time.

Mrsmartell08 · 31/07/2017 11:27

No sotd yet for me as we are having a pj day
Ended up at minor injuries with ds1 yesterday so am shattered (he's ok)
I fancy comfort so who knows might try avon soft musk

34AQuid · 31/07/2017 12:31

No SOTD yet..but its grey here and I think I'm in a Jade kinda mood...

PJ day here, too, as DH and DD have both caught my lurgies, so I'm forehead-stroker and waitress/skivvy for the day Grin.

On the up side of things, I just got paid and bought myself a 30ml bottle of (new) Mitsouko online. Only the EDT, but still...excited!

34AQuid · 31/07/2017 12:32

Hope your DS is alright, mrsm!

Mrsmartell08 · 31/07/2017 12:47

His toe nail came off!
Hope your dh and dd feel better soon.
I'm very Envy of your mitsuoko!

Mrsmartell08 · 31/07/2017 12:53

Oh! I had one of my 3am musings....
So...CK obsession was THE oriental in the 80s/90s (and I wore and loved it)
But EL cinnabar was launched only months after obsession and - in my humble opinion - is a better and truer oriental.
So...why didn't cinnabar do as well?
Marketing? (Very iconic ad with Kate moss for CK)
Bad timing?
Price?
I got to wondering if there were other perfume groups this applied to?
Hmmmm....

Mrsmartell08 · 31/07/2017 13:37

I'm thinking dior addict for my b day
The edp
It's gorgeous

IsItOnTheTrolley · 31/07/2017 17:29

Help me please lovely perfumistas, I am desperately trying to find a new summer perfume. I absolutely adore JM Lime, basil, and mandarin, but it lasts for maybe an hour on my skin. In my head the way I imagine the perfume to be is an understated, Italian woman, in linen, and sunglasses, swanning around... 😂

I really want a very lemony top note, with staying power. I quite like herbal fragrance too, I don't like musky, powdery, or sickly perfume, my. Go to all time is Coco Chanel, and Velvet Rose and Oud, by JM, have I just contradicted myself?

I live in the far back of beyond, so a trip to anywhere with a good selection, takes half a day, but as luck would have it, wer're off to Heathrow on Wednesday, so will have some time for sniffing, yay! I would just like some recommendations of things to look out for, and so cut down on any wasted time.

MrsCocoa · 31/07/2017 18:15

Oh that sounds great fun Isit - are you heading off somewhere exotic?

Not sure what you'll have access to at Heathrow, but would head towards Annick Goutal - Eau d'Hadrien is a lemony classic, and if you're open to other citrus-based things try Eau de Sud, an aromatic masterpiece.

I'd also have a sniff around Acqua di Parma, Diptyque, Miller Harris and Atelier Cologne.

PS. if you fancy a serious lemon chypre it's difficult to beat Mary Greenwell's Lemon, currently being sold off for a song at The Fragrance Shop.

IsItOnTheTrolley · 31/07/2017 18:34

Thank you so much Mrs Cocoa, I did toy with the idea of Mary Greenwell Lemon, but a few reviews likened it to fairy liquid. I have had Acqua di Parma before, and did really like it, can't remember why I moved on from it now?

Thank you again for the suggestions, it will help to cut down the "child in a sweet shop" running around.

We are off somewhere nice with sun, and family thrown in. ☀️

MrsCocoa · 31/07/2017 18:45

Have a great time!

PS. Lemon is nothing like Fairy Liquid! It is quite a serious and grown-up (70s inspired?) chypre, rather than a light cologne. The purse sprays are sold-out online but if you find one in a high street store, buy it. I've rarely spent a better £7.50.

FloofyCat · 31/07/2017 19:00

Lemon is gorgeous! I like Fire too, more so than the other two.

Perfume good to see you back, I'm especially interested in your Perfume Parlour reviews as I'm on a PP budget this month Grin

I want some (vintage) Obsession now, damn you MrsM. It's all so damp and cold here and I'm having a bit of a shitty week (this is a nice British understatement. I'm turning into my Mother "oh everything's fine, nothing to see here. Just my head fell off" Wink) I think Obsession just grew extremely popular and "trendy" despite similar scents being actually...well, better. See also: Tom Ford Grin

I wonder what the PP Obsession version is like? Grin

Mrsmartell08 · 31/07/2017 19:31

Sorry floofy! 😁
Haven't smelt a Tom Ford I like...
Did like JM velvet rose and oud but not enough to shell out £££££

Judydreamsofhorses · 31/07/2017 20:37

SOTD was Heeley Sel Marin. isit Annick Goutal Ninfeo Mio might be worth a sniff if you can find it.

MrsCocoa · 31/07/2017 22:04

SotD: Parfumerie Générale - 2.1 Cozé Verdé. Dreamy woody fig.

PS. Think you're being a bit hard on TF. Two words: Sahara Noir Smile.

Mrsmartell08 · 31/07/2017 22:07

Meant to say hope your week improves floofy

Calminaqualm · 01/08/2017 07:06

Hi IsItOn! You might want to investigate the Hermes Jardin series, particularly Un Jardin En Mediterranee. Also if it is a sharp green effect you are wanting, rather than a definite lemon, Miller Harris Cassis en Feuilles is delightful and lasts a long time. Their Fleurs de Bois has lemon in it but I haven't tried it. Might be worth a test. Hermes Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate is delightfully sharp but doesn't last very long.

Also worth testing are some of the Guerlain Aqua Allegoria perfumes. They are light and meant to be frequently spritzed but they always have some citrussy ones to try.

Mrsmartell08 · 01/08/2017 07:39

Ds2 just hugged me and then followed me into the kitchen to say I smelt nice!
So maybe avon soft musk again today.. ..?

MrsCocoa · 01/08/2017 09:06

Floofy-that doesn't sound good. Flowers.

I need to smell some vintage Obsession (the current formulation seems a bit less interesting...?). Seem to remember it having a new sensibility when it came out? Structure-wise it was one big modern chord, recognisable anywhere and with zero progression (think, in this respect, it was the next generation on from Opium and Cinnabar?). As you say MrsM a lot was also down to the marketing?

Self-soothing today in Les Nuits D'Hadrien (all that Annick Goutal talk yesterday). Isit - don't forget to report back after your holiday!

MrsCocoa · 01/08/2017 09:13

Or am I getting it mixed up with Dune, which from memory had similar characteristics, in the same era? Completely different scents but somehow sitting on the same shelf in my head!
