We have dusted down our Gigis and boyfriend shirts. We are desperately trying to avoid melting in MMFs. We are planning capsule holiday wardrobes. We are getting ready for summer gorgeousness......come and join us for as we wait for the temperatures to soar.....

dry I thoroughly enjoyed shopping for my DSis prom last year. She has worn the dress at uni balls a couple of times this year too.

Welcome stitch.

jollyhockey · 11/06/2017 17:59

Ladies, can you help please?! We haven't been on a sun holiday since before the kids were born, ie. 16 odd years, so it's been a while. Can someone please tell me what the dress code for men would be in a 5* resort in Spain? We've booked B&B to aloow us to eat in the resort's restaurants in the evenings but lunch will be poolside at the hotel. Am more eanting to know about evening than day wear!

Thank you!

Longislandicetee · 11/06/2017 18:16

Oh how lovely JollySmile. My dh (who, like me, is a very classic dresser) tends to wear a shirt - think Ralph Lauren and Gant - with chinos and brown shoes if we are eating in a 'posh" restaurant on holiday. Either long sleeves (air conditioner!) or short sleeves. If it's got a dress code he has blazer but we are in the kiddie years so it's years since he needed one for holiday!Grin If it's a very relaxed affair then usually a polo shirt - again Ralph Lauren, Grant or A&F - with either chinos or dark Bermuda chinos (Gap, Gant) and canvas trainers/shoes. Most places don't have dress codes but everyone tends to sort of dress alike! Hope that helps!!

jollyhockey · 11/06/2017 18:22

Thanks Blingy - that really does help. When we were last away, it was chinos, shirt and shoes but we ate in most nights. He's rolling his eyes at the prospect of a shopping trip!

DryWhiteagainW · 11/06/2017 19:42

More importantly what are you taking Jolly? welcome by the way I still haven't recovered from last year's cruise over packing, dressy uppy extravaganza......Grin

Liberty did you get the SS sandals at Office?

OP posts:
jollyhockey · 11/06/2017 20:09

Lol no idea Dry. Trying to sort 4 children and steer DH away from an absolute fashion disaster! Need absolutely everything and have bought zilch apart from a few t-shirts from Boden. Am watching S&B for links! Plan to hit the shops next weekend - thinking a skirt or two, dresses (how many?) and whatever else to build up enough evening outfits for a week.

shopafrolic · 11/06/2017 20:20

Jolly I took Blingy's advice when going away with DH to my first ever 5* resort and she was bang on.
DH has assorted chinos from GAP, loads of RL polo shirts and some brown suede Tod-a-like loafers and that has always been fine.

MarshaBrady · 11/06/2017 20:29

Hey Jolly I really like wearing dresses and flats when we go. I don't bother with any sort of heel and dresses are easy to throw on. I did have a couple of skirts too.

Checking out resorts as I type.

queencerulean · 11/06/2017 21:11

Hello all, old and newbies. Last few days have been manic. Only 1 week into the last term and I'm already frazzled! Dd goes on y6 residential soon so have been busy getting the stuff needed for that. She's also had a health problem (not overly serious) that is causing me some concern. But I did have a fab night away last drank too much gin and discovered the wonders of snapchat (although I still don't really get it!).

Longislandicetee · 11/06/2017 22:06

I hope did recovers soon QueenC. I know what you mean about feeling frazzled after 1 week into the last half term and empathise with you. My lot finish in less than 4 weeks and I am looking forward to not having all the additional stress! Every week this half term I am at the school for quite a lengthy period of time one day a week for varying reasons. Hmm

Jolly, my holiday evening wear is always strappy dress, blingy sandals (usually flat), jewelry by Accessorize and a little blingy clutch. I only wear tinted moisturiser and tinted lip balm or lip gloss. I don't tend to spend a lot on the dresses either, usually high street, with my current favourites from Mango. We are doing an adventurous summer holiday so no dressing up for me this yearEnvy... unless I managed to get dh out of the office during October half term.

DryWhiteagainW · 11/06/2017 22:24

Jolly..... You need some Sam Edelman Gigi sandals, they do day and night.
My holiday staples also include a tan leather clutch which goes with everything.
Gigis in gold and snakeskin.
Black maxi dress which can be dressed up with jewellery, or dressed down.
A black short shift dress.....this year I've bought a broderie one from Gap in cotton.
Gap boyfriend shorts.
H and M jersey short dresses to throw on over swimming costume for day with havianas.

DryWhiteagainW · 11/06/2017 22:27

DH:
GAp chinos in stone and navy.
Ralph Lauren chino shorts in stone and navy.
Selection of polo shits, short sleeved linen shirts.
Birkenstocks and loafer type shoes in brown.

jollyhockey · 11/06/2017 22:32

Just the sort of holiday wear I need to hear about. Flats good and will have a look at Gigis, hadn't thought about a bag for evening as spending more time dwelling on a bag for travelling. Mini Marcie probably too small and Mulberry is oxblood so wrong colour but right size - there's a gap in my bag wardrobe!

Will definitely look high street for dresses - have seen a nice one on Tommy Hilfigervwebsite this evening which I'd like to try on so might order but a bit more expensive. I won't get much wear out of strappy summer dresses in our climate so don't want to go mad!

I do want nice swimwear regardless of my post baby figure!

shopafrolic · 12/06/2017 10:20

Lost a post earlier so will try again.
Jolly in terms of bags on holiday I usually take High St ones. Mainly because I am scared to lose designer ones or mark them with suntan lotion. I have a pink suede clutch that came from Jigsaw (they have great bags and shoes in their sales), and then I have a straw LKB clutch that I've had for decades but is brilliant on holiday. Not sure what your style is but Zara have great holiday bags - they have a very cute one at the moment with pompoms on it...... I usually only carry phone, lipstick and room key so clutches are fine.
Agree with Dry about Gigis on holiday - very versatile, I also have a pair of jewelled R&B flat sandals which are good. The only heels I take are my mid height like my Dune Cristinas and LKB Cristinas (never knew they were both called Cristina!).
I ordered these sandals the other day as my first foray into dirt cheap and cheerful shoes. They are going straight back. Such an awful fit on me.
And since I am wearing my Office white boots all the time (but they are actually tight and giving me blisters) I ordered these from Kurt Geiger in an 8. Much more comfortable fit. Not worried about the Office ones as they were so cheap to begin with. Not sure if I can EBay them though as I had to replace the zip pulls. Hmm
A row with DH last night means I am all puffy eyed and feeling horrid today. Catching up on chores and waiting for the DHL man to collect the Ganni dress. Hope everyone is having a good Monday. Love to you all Voguettes x

queencerulean · 12/06/2017 12:21

Oh no shop , hope all ok? I'm laughing at those sandals being your mid height ones Grin.

jolly on holiday I always wear flats, salt waters by day and some silver flats by night. Bag wise in the evening I either use a crossbody or I have a cheap clutch from marrakech or a straw type one from white stuff. Clothes are either boden shorts with a blouse/top or a cotton/linen dress from next (although they don't have any good ones this year).

I'm loving this in between weather for cropped jeans and 3/4 length sleeves. My favourite kind of dressing. I love having an array of ballet flats to choose from so have decided in the winter I need an array of different boots!

BerniceBobsHerHair · 12/06/2017 12:44

Shop I hope you are okay Flowers Like the white boots, I copied you and bought the Office ones on ebay but they were a bit small on me so was able to send them back. Really like the look though.
Welcome to Jolly and Stitch
You lot go on much more glamorous holidays than me. Ours are always along the camping in UK type ones, rainjacket: essential. heels: not so much Grin
Queen I hope your DD is better soon.
Lib can you link the snake print sandals? And also Amber's M&S sandals if possible, I am intrigued...
The Hush jacket didn't work out for me so have ordered this one from Warehouse to try.
Anyone done any sale shopping yet? I've ordered this dress for a winter wedding later in the year - I am not sure about the slightly see through section at the bottom though. Depends how see through it is irl.
I am lusting after this clutch also but hoping for a better discount plus I don't really need it

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 12/06/2017 13:00

oh Shop hope you are okay Thanks

finally unpacked fully now which feels good. finally have full access to my entire wardrobe which is making me feel a touch giddy truth told as it's been a while since i had access to everything!!! oh the choices i have now!!!

Stokey · 12/06/2017 14:53

Hello & welcome Jolly & Stitches. You've been given great advice, I've nothing really to add except I always pack too much make up and end up wearing virtually none.

Sorry to hear you're having a bad day Shop . KG boots look good..

And sorry to miss the mini MU on Friday, sounds like I missed a good evening.

Gorgeous green dress Bernice. I can't believe it's already sales time, I got a pre-sales email from &OS today & keep meaning to look at their site. I hear they have a new shop on Long Acre.

The zip on my Ash Virgins broke on my way out to dinner on Thursday night, very annoying. I had to do an emergency stop at St Pancras & buy these Dune silver sandals. They're not that comfy but looked good with the Warehouse jumpsuit I was wearing.

DryWhiteagainW · 12/06/2017 16:40

Bernice has Amber mentioned M and S sandals recently? Or are they the Ines from a couple of years ago that I snap got? I can pop a photo on, still going strong, in fact I think I might take them on holiday as they aren't as flat as Gigis.

Hello from a hot menorca. 😎Just enjoying a g&t before getting ready for dinner. Having a nice holiday and the DC are much better this year. Pleased with what I packed - nothing too dressy as it's not overly dressy here and am pleased with my monsoon kaftan that was a bit of a random purchase.

Glad you all had fun at the mini MU on Sunday. Hopefully I'll be able to make the next one. Outfits all sound fab.

lib my offices are in Paddington so we could always arrange an after work drink one night?

Had a quick skim of the thread but not loooked at all the links.

I've had quite a few sales emails (whistles, coast, warehouse), is it just me or are the sales early this year? Or is it because there's hardly been any summer yet?

Hope amber and shop are ok. Nice boots by the way shop.

dry your outfits sounds great as always!

Great holiday dressing advice from blingy!

marsha glad you survived the school trip. Was a large 🍸 or 🍷 Consumed afterwards?!

Everyonelovessparkles · 12/06/2017 16:55

stokey we're at royal son bou, I think I might have seen on another thread that you've been here too???

Stokey · 12/06/2017 17:07

Ooh Yes I have, it's lovely. My kids still rave about the pool even though it was two years ago (& sing the songs from the mini-disco but you may be spared that outside of summer holidays!). Have a fab holiday.

The sales do feel early, I thought they normally start around my birthday which is start of July. Maybe it's because consumer spending has been doing badly. Actually as soon as I saw that, I did think of all the unwearable clothes around this summer.

I meant to link this lovely yellow tote earlier. It's a friend's fabric brand but she's selling up and moving abroad. I saw the bag at her final pop-up sale and think I need it for the summer.

Dreamqueen · 12/06/2017 17:13

Welcome Jolly and Stitch

Hope you're ok Shop Flowers for you.

Holiday destination sounds lovely Everyone

Nothing to add to all that great holiday packing advice. I never take heels now, only flats and Havainas for daytime.

shopafrolic · 12/06/2017 18:32

Thanks for all the Flowers I think I'm having difficulties with hormones. Won't go into detail but mood swings are immense although DH was an arsehole last night
He'll want to talk tonight, I can't be bothered. That's not good is it. Have cooked him a nice dinner to hopefully avoid a big heart to heart.
One glad you're settled
Everyone I'll laugh if a lurker tracks you down poolside now Grin
Love to all. Normal service will resume shortly I promise.
