We have dusted down our Gigis and boyfriend shirts. We are desperately trying to avoid melting in MMFs. We are planning capsule holiday wardrobes. We are getting ready for summer gorgeousness......come and join us for as we wait for the temperatures to soar.....

I was just having a lunch time browse on NAP and matches and was thinking about some of the seasonal prints like at Dolce e gabbana e.g. The hydrangea or the lemons from last year etc Do you think they age well as investment pieces or are they so ubiquitous with a certain year / season that they're not really timeless. Or maybe it doesn't matter if you like the print??

libertydoddle · 06/07/2017 15:13

I think people who are really 'in the know' could date prints etc but most people couldn't. I think a theme can date i.e. at one point l animal prints looked very dated but then came back. With something like the D&G prints I think if you like it and it suits you (for example very large scale prints look terrible on me) then it's going to look good for ages.

My only issue would be that a skirt for example at those prices would be a huge investment for me and I think I'd get bored with it or else I'd feel self conscious that I looked like I was wearing the same thing all the time.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 06/07/2017 15:49

I bought a lemon dress a few years ago from sainsburys Grin so they were ahead of D&G...

It's so hard with prints, everyone always says on the "how to look expensive" threads that you shouldn't wear them, and some do look really cheap. But I see people wearing lovely printed summer dresses and think they look great. So to me, prints look better in summer.

But then there are some designers who only seem to do prints (Mary Katrantzou for instance)...

I also think a lot of prints do date, but that the people who can afford to keep buying D&G don't care Grin I'm not in that group so I would rather buy a plain item from D&G or a carefully chosen print on the high street.

Random post there, sorry!

Everyonelovessparkles · 06/07/2017 16:26

Not random at all blair. I agree with you and lib. As I'll never be able to afford dolce dresses season after season, I would rather buy something more classic that might not date. But I guess there are people who can afford to buy new each season so probably don't care if their hydrangea dress dates. Grin

Morning

Really looking forward to MU tomorrow. I'm thinking of wearing Whistles giraffe print dress if it's cooler or I don't know if it's hot Confused

Lovely bag and shoes purchase Lib the colour is great.

You'll have to feedback on the Pamplona dress Every also loved the mini version too, very cute

Shop love the JC dress, very you

Blair you've got me looking at RL. Almost ordered a shirt dress but didn't as I think it may be too long.

Blingy wow what a bracelet

libertydoddle · 07/07/2017 11:14

I love prints. If I had an unlimited budget I would buy loads of Mary Katrantzou, Etro, Gucci etc.

Getting very excited now about MU tomorrow. Looking forward to catching up with everyone. Things seem to be moving finally with house sale and hope to be negotiating exchange date etc next week.

OOTD is Hobbs leopard print kakhi and navy shirt dress with flat tan R&B sandals. Gold earrings and a couple of green and gold accessorise bracelets. Anyone else not like wearing necklaces in the heat? Actually even the bracelets are a bit annoying. Bag is coral Jaeger tote.

BerniceBobsHerHair · 07/07/2017 13:49

Hello, long time no post. Have had a few times when I lost long ones and felt too irritated to write it out again!
Going to test my memory now...
FedUp I was interested in trying the Piper dress from Hush also but it sounds like it is not worth it. Don't think it has gone into the sale either.
Thanks Shop for the heads up about trainers on the nap sale - I bought a pair of grey gazelles for a good price.
Other main sale purchase is this other stories dress
I love the print on your new Warehouse dress, Stokey. Are you still waiting to hear about the job?
I like your new dress Everyone, I have my eye on a long one from there - what did they advise about sizing?
I like prints too but don't tend to wear them apart from on dresses. No one who sees me wearing it would have any idea if the print was a few seasons ago or not, so my view would be if you love it, why not buy it?

Speaking of which that Lucinda Chambers interview was interesting, but does really emphasise how shallow the fashion industry is, all about surface and how you present. Plus no room for vulnerability at all. I always admire her style though!
Just reading back my point about prints is basically the same as Lib but hers is made better! I really like the bag and shoes you bought Lib - especially the shoes. I would like to see the Zara stripe dress 'in action' so hope you wear that tomorrow The forecast suggests it will be cooler but who knows?
Oh I am not a big 'bling' fan but I always lust after Amber's tiffany bone cuff when you link it, so that is what I would go for I jewellery wise think.

queencerulean · 07/07/2017 13:53

Jewellery annoys me in hot weather too lib. Apart from rings and earrings that I never take off I haven't got any on today.

I don't do a lot of prints. Can't do big scale ones as they drown me but they can look fantastic on the right person. I wouldn't worry about them being dated as such-the kind of people who would know that it's last years print, would know that even about a plain item.

queencerulean · 07/07/2017 13:57

Im in a quandary. I ordered this bag that I'd been lusting after for a while. Decided it would be perfect for MU and I love the colour. It's just arrived and my initial reaction wasn't love at all. The colour is just so much duller irl and not the vivid colour I was hoping for. The bag however is gorgeous and everything I could want-compartments, big but not overly big and heavy and every time I put it on it's growing on me. It's not a winter colour but rather a summer blue which I know in some ways shouldn't matter but may bug me...

queencerulean · 07/07/2017 13:59

Agh, bernice you're right. 23 and black cloud. Time to rethink my outfit??

libertydoddle · 07/07/2017 14:33

Sounds like you would use it QueenC especially in summer time but maybe not so good in autumn/winter? Is there any other colour of it that might work for you?

Bernice I am definitely going to wear the red stripe dress. May wear white loafers rather than sandals if there is a chance of rain...

MarshaBrady · 07/07/2017 15:55

Big wave to Bernice

Have had an ace day poolside with dh, so hot. So indulgent!

FedupNagging · 07/07/2017 16:05

I remember your TU dress Blair - in fact I saw someone wearing it last week and immediately though of you.

Spent the day in London yesterday and absolutely melted so will be relieved if it's a bit cooler tomorrow although still no idea what to wear - nothing I tried on earlier looks right. Still, have just had nails done albeit far too bright so at least they'll look polished!

Great Coach bag Queen - I was looking at the pink version last week (looks more coral irl) and the colour is matt, I think, rather than gloss. Still, I really liked the style and size.

Bernice love the &OS dress; the piper dress is still £59 so not worth buying if it's a poor fit. If it was on sale I'd take a punt and get it altered.

shopafrolic · 07/07/2017 16:50

QueenC I would send it back and wait for perfection - it wasn't a 'need' anyway so why not wait and find something better.
Bernice I am so looking forward to catching up with you tomorrow :)
Lib I really want to see the Zara striped dress too so I 2nd Bernice's request
I still have no idea what I'll be wearing tomorrow. The Just Cavalli is a keeper so perhaps that? I am woefully unprepared.

DryWhiteagainW · 07/07/2017 18:31

23 is still good for me.....tossing up between 2 outfits.

Anyway I'm off out now will try to go steady on the prosecco, don't want to spoil it tomorrow. Outfit is Jimmies, White broderie top, gold t bar stilletoes, red Longchamps bag, gold cuff.

QueenC remember my Nancy? It looked a sky blue online, when it arrived it was more turquoise. I kept it. It wasn't perfect but, like you, I really really liked the bag.....I love it and will most probably bring it tomorrow.

OP posts:
kittyhello · 07/07/2017 19:11

Queen did the bag make you say wow when you first saw it? Do you love it? Will it be an expensive mistake or will you use it regularly? Don't want to put you off but as much as I hate the faff of sending stuff back I try and be as strict as I can.

Like the sound of your outfit this evening Dry

Marsha poolside sounds v indulgent, dh was poolside today I was very Envy perfect weather for it too.

Bernice I love the &OS dress, looking forward to meeting you tomorrow.

Lib re : jewellery I was wearing a resin cuff today which I had to take off as soon as I got home as it was getting on my nerves, just studs and usual rings for me in the summer.

FedupNagging · 07/07/2017 19:35

I hadn't realised you were coming tomorrow Bernice - will be lovely to meet you.

Your day today sounds fab Marsha - I'm with Kitty on the Envy front

Have you made a decision on the bag Queen? Lots of sensible advice on here! Also, it was the coral bag I was looking at, not the pink, which is obviously why it looked, well, coral. Grin I think the heat is getting to me this week, that or middle age - I've forgotten loads of information, got very Confused about stuff and written several cards today and made an error in Every.Single.One!

queencerulean · 07/07/2017 20:30

No final decision made. It's definitely not perfection as colour just isn't as vivid enough as I would ideally like. But the bag style is. fedup I saw the pink and had it been more of a fuschia I would have bought it but didn't really like that particular shade (I'm v fussy about my pinks!).

No idea what to wear tomorrow. I've got a dress or jeans outfit sorted so will decide in the morning.

MarshaBrady · 07/07/2017 21:03

Dh has to book holiday far in advance, think he picked this date in May so when it comes around and it's actually brilliant weather it's such pot luck!

Kitty perhaps it was the same pool! (London)

No idea what to wear tomorrow!

shopafrolic · 07/07/2017 22:26

Me neither Marsha - we can wing it together

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 07/07/2017 23:14

Hope you all have a fab MU tomorrow - I'm sure everyone will look great. Looking forward to reading about it! I'm going to a family birthday BBQ and will be wearing khaki shirt dress and Gucci belt, I think.

Dreamqueen · 08/07/2017 04:38

Hope MU is great today. Sorry to be missing it. GinGinGinGin

queencerulean · 08/07/2017 06:50

Every single weather forecast is different. I'm going with the BBC that says 25 degrees!

Everyonelovessparkles · 08/07/2017 07:20

Have a good meet up today. Looking forward to hearing about all the outfits. I'm sad to be missing it too.

Glad the JC dress is a keeper shop.

Difficult decision re the bag queenc. If it's not love then I'd be tempted to send it back as you will always be a bit Hmm when you come to use it. But then I guess it depends whether you can overcome the colour issue because it is good size wise??

bernice Pampelone says that there sizes generally correspond like this : XS 6/8, S 8/10, M 10/12, L 12/14. My dress has been despatched so will let you know what it's like. If you subscribe to the mailing list you get a 15% discount.

queencerulean · 08/07/2017 08:20

I'm keeping the bag! The initial disappointment that the colour wasn't as expected has worn off and looking at this morning I really like it. I'm tempted to throw my bloody colour swatches away as my initial disappointment was mainly because it didn't match the swatch I was expecting it to. Sad I know Grin. When I said it was more of a summer blue I meant the colour season not the actual season!
