It's bubblegum pink. Bright bubblegum pink not light pink, in real life.

Oh yeah. It's an unrelenting slab of pink.

SuperFlyHigh · 21/05/2017 21:58

Ginger honest to god I swear almost the whole UK/European fashion buyer people have been on glue/LSD and reminiscing about either their Ibiza party days or if old enough to remember, the 60s.

Gingernaut · 21/05/2017 22:05

SuperFlyHigh, mate.

Every shop has Bardot 'sleeves'/ off at least one shoulder dresses and tops, palm and tropical prints, Greek or Eastern European style peasant/folk embroidery, tassels ( tassels ) and pom poms dangling off stuff.

H&M, Topshop and New Look also have neckerchiefs (seriously, thin strips of fabric to wrap around your neck or to tie your hair up with) and, along with Mango, generic Oriental style prints, embroidery and kimonos.

What the fuck happened?

Bluntness100 · 21/05/2017 22:07

Love this thread, totally don't believe someone made it look good. I looked like a blancmange that had been left out the fridge in it. You know where they develop a darker pink skin? It's a hideous colour, cheap fabric and beyond shapeless. Ive genuinely never seen the like. 😂

Gingernaut · 21/05/2017 22:08

Meanwhile, everywhere I go, everyone is in head to toe black and grey.

Here in the West Midlands, no matter how morbidly obese you are, sports gear in grey marl is de rigeur.

SuperFlyHigh · 21/05/2017 22:32

Ginger arrhgghh yes the Pom poms! I saw a normal looking woman fingering the Pom Pom white t shirt Zara has to offer last week!

Frills and flounces on every top or floor length kimono jacket things (one seemed to have sold out).

Strangely their kids wear escapes these monstrosities! Lucky kids!

SuperFlyHigh · 21/05/2017 22:35

Ginger possibly some of those neckerchief double as bandeau bras... Grin

The swimwear in Zara is bloody awful too, for stick insects and H&M moreorless the same... They used to do nice decent swimsuits under 5 years ago in H&M because I bought 2!

GertyTheGert · 21/05/2017 22:44

Its all bluddie awful - but hey the new lady who will be in charge of womens wear has plenty of experience, ex Halfords ....... :-( plus she looks frumpy and couldn't be bothered to wash her hair for the photo saying she was successful getting the job ............ What hope eh????

Christmastree43 · 21/05/2017 22:56

Shocked at how bad the dress looks on normal women (/any woman/mannequin/etc) and how hard they are pushing it advertising-wise 😕 Really shows the massive disconnect doesn't it

Crochita · 22/05/2017 07:24

I like the dress! I'd love it if it was slightly more salmon pink.

It's a very flattering style for me.

uk.businessinsider.com/who-is-jill-mcdonald-halfords-new-boss-of-marks-and-spencer-clothing-2017-5

Yeah. Because an incomplete root and branch reform of a bicycle and motor spares company combined with the fact she's female and has bought clothes at M&S in the past is perfect preparation for taking on the job. I won't hold my breath. 😔

Bluntness100 · 22/05/2017 08:27

Crochita, how the hell is it flattering on you? This is me in the dress last week and this morning out of it.

I'm telling you , someone in digital marketing is watching the seo on that dress going sky high and assuming that its in a good way. Not because we are all pissing ourselves laughing at it.

ErrolTheDragon · 22/05/2017 12:36

Ah - so the idea is, it's so obviously a frock which turns someone like bluntness who actually looks good in shorts and a vest top into a blancmange, that any woman wearing it has to be given the benefit of the doubt that she's really hiding a similarly good figure?ConfusedGrin

BitOutOfPractice · 22/05/2017 12:53

Just look at the seam on the sleeve where the flounce is stitched on. It looks so so cheap. Something you might but off a dodgy market stall. Awful.

StiginaGrump · 22/05/2017 13:03

I strolled past it and had to stop and gwap - so cheap looking so very unflattering and as I looked I realised I had read a thread title and just recognised the subject from morning more... horrific

MelanieCheeks · 22/05/2017 17:29

S&B I must confess
I tried on the awful dress
Who would wear this, I can't guess!
Several kinds of hideousness
What has happened, M&S?
Once your clothes were a success
Now the horrors coalesce
In this Shocking Bright Pink Dress

It looks like something your Barbie would have had in 1968. Same material too.

ElspethFlashman · 22/05/2017 18:16

It's the gift that keeps on fugging!

ElspethFlashman · 22/05/2017 18:18

Does My Bum Look 40 just recommended this dress.

Now I know since she's in bed with M&S she's not allowed to think anything is less than amazing, but I still can't believe she's actually put this thing up on her blog.

Copper1122 · 22/05/2017 18:21

Yikes Sophie wessex appears to be wearing it to the Chelsea flower show!

KatyBerry · 22/05/2017 18:34

Hahaha copper, came to say just that! And she's normally so well dressed!

M0stlyBowlingHedgehog · 22/05/2017 18:53

Mavis, I'll have you know I had a genuine '60s Barbie (originally owned by my older sister) and her wardrobe was much more chic - real Jackie Kennedy stuff, not frumpy BHS bed valances.

Copper1122 · 22/05/2017 19:19

That is true Katy . Even her, no doubt , vastly more expensive copy (inspiration?prototype?) does not look good on her.

originalbiglymavis · 22/05/2017 19:21

Maybe I'm thinking of Sindy, Barbie's frumpy British pen pal.
