Is this dress really awful?

teal dress

The colour is one of my best and I need a long dress (that I'll never wear again) for a do. I bought this from another site where the only picture was the front view of the dress without model and thought it would do for the price.

Now I've seen the side with the split and the zip and the fact that it even makes the model look lumpy I'm not so sure. I'm 5'7" , 47yo, size 10 (although have ordered a Jane Norman 12) and properly fit and toned, even if I say so myself Grin

Dress code requires closed shoes so I can wear tights to help with the leg situation and smooth any bumps. What do you think?

I really like it, and it's sold out now too so I'm not the only one

Reow · 27/04/2017 18:50

It's a bit towie Confused

OlennasWimple · 27/04/2017 18:53

You can't wear that dress a) to a military do or b) with closed toes!

What's your budget and usual style?

(I love that Ellie Saab one linked up thread )

polyhymnia · 27/04/2017 19:00

Definitely cheap and nasty looking. I didn't know Jane Norman were still in business.

happypoobum · 27/04/2017 19:05

I agree you can't really wear a dress that cheap looking to a military event.

Are you going with a DP/DH?

I would just wear the one you wore last time if you like it.

bojorojo · 27/04/2017 19:17

Look at evening dresses on the House of Fraser website. There are some huge reductions and plenty of suitable classy dresses for this occasion. Order several and keep the best. My DD wore a sensational red evening dress for a very formal do in London and looked £m! The dress was cheaper than hiring!

Jade Phase Eight dress

One shouldered dress

A proper ballgown at a great price

Wonderful if you can wear red and it doesn't clash with the military dress uniforms

Bluntness100 · 27/04/2017 19:34

Omg that red one is gorgeous. I'd buy that just to sit in the house,,😍

MrsDoylesTeabags · 27/04/2017 19:59

What do you think of this one?
or this one ?

PollyPerky · 27/04/2017 20:08

The dark jade one is nice as is the red one. I honestly think you should not go to this ball with a one-shouldered anything. Too much flesh is not a good thing. It looks cheap.

OlennasWimple · 27/04/2017 21:19

I think the diamonte in both of those dresses makes them look cheap, MrsDoyles. If they had left it off, they would both be perfectly nice dresses!

OlennasWimple · 27/04/2017 21:32

Green column dress with a side slit

Emphasise · 29/04/2017 15:01

Well, it's arrived and it's actually a lot better than I thought it would be. Fabric is quite thick and much heavier than I expected. The size 12 is probably slightly bigger on me than the design intends, but I think that helps. Skims rather than clings, no lines from tights or underwear.

I'm going to wear it with a silver wrap (which is top quality) and sparkly mid height stiletto, closed toe slingbacks, chunky silver bangle. It looks nice.

It's only cadets, no-one's career is at risk Smile

When I'm here, why all the snippyness about it being polyester? It's nor what I'd choose in a perfect world either, but almost all the dresses suggested here are polyester too, even those at £100+

Have a lovely time! It sounds as though it will look very nice end.

I think some synthetic fabrics look and hang beautifully. Some cling and loose their shapes easily. --shrugs~~

Blinkyblink · 29/04/2017 21:44

Awful, just awful.

Emmageddon · 30/04/2017 08:52

Have a fantastic time. The accessories you're wearing sound lovely, I like a bit of sparkle.

I'm very jealous you can wear a size 12 dress that skims your figure. I'd look like a burst Tesco Value sausage in a size 14. size 16 to be honest

Trills · 30/04/2017 09:12

Glad it worked out for you - if the fabric is nice and thick it could be nice but from the website it looked thin.

burnishedsilver · 30/04/2017 09:30

Polyester is becoming more and more difficult to escape, no matter what your budget ☹. I agree, high end shops are full of it.

hrona · 13/12/2017 09:20

Of course I like it :)
