Is this dress really awful?

teal dress

The colour is one of my best and I need a long dress (that I'll never wear again) for a do. I bought this from another site where the only picture was the front view of the dress without model and thought it would do for the price.

Now I've seen the side with the split and the zip and the fact that it even makes the model look lumpy I'm not so sure. I'm 5'7" , 47yo, size 10 (although have ordered a Jane Norman 12) and properly fit and toned, even if I say so myself Grin

Dress code requires closed shoes so I can wear tights to help with the leg situation and smooth any bumps. What do you think?

It's a lovely colour but I think that it's a better dress for a teenager or someone in their early twenties.... I'm mid 40s and wouldn't wear this in a million years.

MyPatronusIsAUnicorn · 26/04/2017 21:33

Sorry I think it looks like something a 19 year old would wear.

burnishedsilver · 26/04/2017 21:34

I suspect it will look pretty cheap but there's no harm in trying it on.

Bluntness100 · 26/04/2017 21:34

I have to admit i wear my fair share of figure hugging clothes, but I try to aim for elegant sexy/attractive rather than cheap sexy. We are the same age and dress size except I'm a little taller than you.

I wouldn't wear this, it looks like it costs 19 quid, sorry op.

MyPatronusIsAUnicorn · 26/04/2017 21:34

Oh and yes, it did look much better in your original picture. The side split and zip look awful and young.

EatsShitAndLeaves · 26/04/2017 21:35

Picture of the Elie Saab £4.6k teal dress - we can dream Grin

And the back...

Is this dress really awful?

No way, my daughter is 19, this is the sort of thing they wear to balls at that age range,

Lovely from the front... Not keen on the zipper, tbh.

However, you say you need a long dress. Depending on the reason for this requirement a dress with a slit like this isn't going to be appropriate at all...

Emphasise · 26/04/2017 21:41

I thought it was against MN rules to say anyone is too old to wear something Grin

kingfisherblue33 · 26/04/2017 21:45

It does not make the model look lumpy! There's not an ounce of fat on her!

Why does it have an odd seam down the back?.?

Elphaba99 · 26/04/2017 21:45

I can see why you went for it on the basis of that photo. What were they thinking adding the zip AND the split up the side!?

user1484615313 · 26/04/2017 21:47

I don't think it's young looking at all But IMO the material Is not nice. I like the colour though.

MerryMarigold · 26/04/2017 21:48

I'd be worried my boob would fall out of the 4.6k dress. That's a lot of money for a big worry. OP at least your breasts are safe in Jane Norman!

EatsShitAndLeaves · 26/04/2017 21:48

It's not about being too old.... it would look shit on anyone.

5 mins wear and the cheap fabric will be creased to buggery.

Bluntness100 · 26/04/2017 21:48

I don't think anyone said you were too old to wear it, more it's what a teenager with no sense of style and not much money might wear,,,😜

BuzzKillington · 26/04/2017 21:50

It's £19 and made of polyester.

Sorry, but it's definitely going to look cheap and nasty.

EatsShitAndLeaves · 26/04/2017 21:51

Merry - your boobs would not fall out of that dress. They have internal corsets to keep you in shape and inside Grin

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 26/04/2017 21:55

My goodness don't wear it Grin I don't think Angelina Jolie would get away with that!

gojettersgo · 26/04/2017 21:56

It's a lovely dress, and the style is ok for any age, but I think the fabric will be of poor quality and therefore could make the whole outfit look a cheap. Hopefully someone will post a better version.

Liiinoo · 26/04/2017 21:58

It is a very skimpy dress in very lightweight fabric. For a size 6 ,19 year old at a barbecue or festival it might be ok, but for anyone 'grown up' I cannot imagine it being appropriate outside the bedroom.

forlornalien · 26/04/2017 21:58

It seems to me that you have a perfect figure for a dress like that but that dress won't do your figure justice.

Fanciedachange17 · 26/04/2017 22:03

Could you hire a dress? You'd get something far better and it is a one off occasion.

MarriedinMaui · 26/04/2017 22:03

That Elie Saab one looks like a sari 😁

Beeziekn33ze · 26/04/2017 22:04

Ask a few friends irl and whoever you'll be with at the do what they think. Clothes look so different on. The lighting of the venue will affect how it looks too. Enjoy the do anyway!
