I've given mum the avon e bay purchases - just not me.
She has some CK eternity (another Sophia grosjman creation) and despite not being a fan when it first came out I tried it again...its not for me. It was ubiquitous during the early 90s and I remember not understanding why it was so popular.. .it's perfectly nice but far too floral for me
Is it odd that the ONLY CK and YSL scents I like are opium and obsession?
Btw, the creator of valentino poudre is very easy on the eye....just sayin
😁

Don't give up on Avon Badders - just go back a couple of decades further. My box of 14 samples from the early 70s has been a revelation. Four absolutely beauties, a couple more that might prove to be with further tries. 8 more highly wearable, and just a couple (with shrieking levels of aldehydes, that I struggle to enjoy (for the first hour at least)). That's an amazing strike rate for cheap and cheerful perfume. But I have had mixed success with the contents of half full bottles I've subsequently picked up - so from now on will only be buying unopened and boxed.

And, being on a budget vintage roll, I've gone back to try the Galimard's again which are, if anything even better. Wearing vintage Eve today - a floral animalic. Not previously a favourite category, but the heart of this is a fabulous musky floral which is almost a gourmand - I keep getting wafts of Turkish Delight-style sweetness and rose water.

Get well soon Ollivander

I've found some nightmusk for £20
Argh
Hope it's still there next month - I've spent far too much this month 😯

Flightywoman · 13/05/2017 09:18

I took my 9yo shopping last week and we stopped at the House of Fraser scent hall.

She loved Shalimar the most, brought home a strip with it sprayed on and has been happily sniffing it ever since!

Good nose, that girl!

I am desperate to try the new Bruno Fazzolari, I love all of his though Au Dela is my favourite.

Flightywoman · 13/05/2017 09:33

Oh and based on your tip earlier Cocoa I have just scored a 3/4 full 100ml bottle of Givenchy III for £23. This makes my heart sing, it's one of my absolute favourites, I love it with a passion and have missed it so much - thank you!

Meripenopause1 · 13/05/2017 10:02

Givenchy III for £23! Great buy. I've always liked it and I liked the blurry magazine advert of the purposeful, sexy woman heading somewhere. My teen self wanted to be that woman!
Sotd is Jicky edt, its gorgeous and I love it, but I need to reapply a lot.
Weirdly, I never wore Jicky in the 80s, I wore Shalimar. But the Jicky takes me right back to my Shalimar days. I'm wondering if it has changed more / had more reformulations than Jicky?
I don't really wear Shalimar any more, I try every now and then but I'm not as keen on the smell. I suspect all the super-sweet vanillas around now make Shalimar more 'challenging' than it used to feel.

Badders123 · 13/05/2017 17:45

I wore SMS today to buy my new car 🙂

Judydreamsofhorses · 13/05/2017 18:44

SOTD is a sample of Heeley Cocobelle. It's very pleasant, but I wouldn't dash out and buy a full bottle.

MrsCocoa · 14/05/2017 10:15

Morning All. SotD is Perceive (the Christopher Sheldrake Avon).

One last chance before it gets eBayed...and interestingly, it smells more interesting.

This may be because it's the first time I've tried smelling it in the morning. I'm beginning to think at the start of the day I am able to pick up on a broader spectrum of smells?

Am I going mad? Anyone else noticed there sense of smell fluctuates during the day/night?

How are you doing olli? I think recovery from surgery definitely requires a lovely new perfume! I have a certain meal DH always makes for me when I have been in hospital - I can't eat it any other time!

MrsC I can't smell as well in the morning but I have Sjogrens so my mouth and nose are always very dry when I wake. I always assumed that was why I couldn't smell so well first thing, but maybe it isn't related at all!

SOTD Cherries In The Air. This is more soapy than cherry-y on my skin but it is mingling nicely with the scent of Zoflora. Speaking of Zoflora, I understand there is a new Cherry version Diluted or undiluted when applied to skin, do we think? Grin

Ollivander84 · 15/05/2017 12:16

Sore to say the least, but I do have a cracking incision that's going to take a while to heal!

GreenPolishToGo · 15/05/2017 18:47

Ouch, poor Ollivander. You most definitely deserve a new perfume.Flowers

MrsC I don't think my sense of smell changes during the day but, bizarre though it sounds, it does seem to be affected by noise. If I am trying a new sample, and music or the radio is on in the background I have to turn it off to sniff with my full attention!

Have you seen the 30 per cent discount code for The Great Randello? I am kicking myself for not ordering it in the last batch of samples. As it's a 4160 Tuesdays I know the odds are that I'll like it but I daren't risk a FB unsniffed.

I am busy chasing Shalimar flankers and mostly getting stuffed out of sight. But not all the time. Grin

SOTD is 4160's Tart's Knicker Drawer - warm, amber-y and elegant - it's one for the 9ml wish list.

lasttimeround · 15/05/2017 19:11

Cherry zoflora??!!!- that'll be exactly the right thing to cheer me up. It's sUchida a ludicrous scent for housework. Ace!
And cheap for my next big fragrance thrill

MrsCocoa · 15/05/2017 21:28

Top spot Green - many thanks!

I do the same. I was once on smelling day thing and I climbed under the table to cut down on visual stimuli as well when handed a smelling strip to describe (which I thought was the natural thing to do, however we may be in a minority ... Smile).

I spent most of the winter in The Great Randello Green (so my 9ml is running low...). I think it's fabulous - you can just about see the curl of fragrant cigar smoke that unfolds when you first spray; it's a cosy woody gourmand with true staying power.

Tart's Knicker Drawer is lovely too. I bought 9ml for my Step Mother - then chickened out and kept it! She has subsequently smelt it and really likes it (and the name) - so I'll be after another 9ml for her this Christmas. If you can push the boat out there is a special 30ml extrait strength on sale?

ADisappearingDreamOfYesterday · 16/05/2017 11:38

Loving the climbing under the table - it sounds along the same lines of my inability to hear if I haven't got my glasses on...

Olli at least your incision isn't somewhere that would prevent you from applying perfume - bright side and all Grin I always feel shit for a few days after a GA (and tearful!) so hope you're doing OK Brew

While we are on the subject of agonising pain and immobility SOTD is Atelier cologne bergamot one - I have been unable to shower for two days and need to feel CLEAN! considered DD's PP dupe of Dove soap but that would necessitate finding it in their midden room.

Cannot wait for a shower and something cosy and comforting, I do believe it is almost Shalimar levels of rain, cold and wind here today.

Ollivander84 · 16/05/2017 11:49

Is the dove soap one nice? I have been v tempted by that. Weirdly I love the smell of johnsons bedtime baby bath too Confused

I did a lovely swoon/feeling faint this morning so I'm off to the GP later just to check I'm not likely to do it again Grin

Badders123 · 16/05/2017 13:09

Afternoon ladies
Hopefully you will be on the mend soon ollivander x
Well!
My Elizabeth Arden true love arrived and I must say I can tell it's by the same nose as Sun moon stars.
I'm not sure I LOVE it but at £8 for a new 100ml bottle in not conolsoning!
Been into town briefly today and tried Dior addict - ok
Jpg classique- yuck
EL beautiful - too floral for me
YSL rive gauche - I like it! Really Like it! Powdery and lovely so am trying to source a bottle on e bay
I'm so bad...ive bid on 4 different bottles at the moment 😁
I now smell....interesting....after starting the day in knowing, a spritz of RG and then a spray of TL 🤣
Also tried all the lush perfumes - considering im such a lush fan these do nothing for me at all

VintagePerfumista · 16/05/2017 15:54

Hello all!

I came out of the other side and am catching up!

I wore Diorella all weekend as once I'd started on it, I couldn't stop. I am now in vintage Safari though. Someone asked last week about its reformulation- dunno, I only have this whopping tester eau de parfum that I snagged on ebay'es. It's a smack-in-your-face powerhouse. I'm thinking it was the last wave of magnificent enormous 80s power scents before all that wussy Eau de Issy/Acqua di Gio/CKOne stuff started.
Sun, Moon and Stars- I remember it coming out, about the same time as Angel, and I loved the marketing and packaging of both- and was deeply attracted to both- and yes, I am a Scorpio! How interesting. I always associate the two in my mind and feel it was a shame that the Lagerfeld came out at the same time, because Angel brought with it such a seachange that anything else was left by the wayside.

Emeraude- mine is a refill so has a plain bottle, but it is pre-barcode and pale Chanel 19 green. It's wonderful isn't it?

As you now I was forced into buying things like clothes (pffff) and have now got Zara frocks coming at me from all directions. Meh.

Need to get back to important purchases like perfume!

VintagePerfumista · 16/05/2017 15:55

Get well soon Ollivander!

Dlpdep · 16/05/2017 16:28

Glad to see another rive gauche fan here. I really did adore it when I sprayed it, and felt totally enveloped in the scent. I'm not sure how practical it is as a perfume though as it may just be too much. I need to try it again.

Badders123 · 16/05/2017 16:39

I can still smell it now dip 😀
Lovely. Perfect for summer looks out of window at rain
Have to say angel passed me by as did sun moon stars when it came out - I was a Kate convert after Avon discontinued nightmusk!
It was 94 I think?
95?
The only other YSL I like is opium - two more different scents it would be hard to find!

Dlpdep · 16/05/2017 16:43

Angel is stink red rotten!! I don't normally have a very specific dislike for perfumes, but that one, I do dislike!!
