I wore Lou Lou back in the day but I can't remember the scent at all....
I'm still hugest bidder for the lagerfeld so fingers x!
Got a stinker of a headache today so light and subtle Valentino poudre for me.

Badders123 · 07/05/2017 18:50

Oh I've been so naughty 😵
I've ordered a load of avon - some blind buys too.

MrsCocoa · 07/05/2017 19:18

Badders123 · 07/05/2017 19:30

Sample of NR for her - I like the poudre but fragrantica has convinced me I will like that one more!
I've bought far away, little black dress and incandescent...not smelt any of them before!!
I keep thinking I ought to get a sample of l heure bleue too....

Badders123 · 07/05/2017 19:31

Only 30 mins to go for this Lagerfeld....

Badders123 · 07/05/2017 20:26

MrsCocoa · 07/05/2017 21:29

Congratulations Badders!

Despite having tied my hands to the chair I spotted a Givenchy III mega-bargain which was too good to let pass. Have managed to sell a few bit of kids stuff this weekend too...

Oh well done Badders! I hope it's as lovely as you remember. Sounds like you haven't been having a bad hit rate with your samples too.Smile

My cats have permanent miniature mohawks from shoving their heads in the way when the pet food sachets are being doled out. They remain unscented however - I shall try not to put ideas into my DS' head.

Your vintage atomizer find sounds delightful MrsC. I always like the look of the old-fashioned cut glass affairs with huge spray bulbs.

Jicky, even though I've never smelt it, is largely responsible for my interest in obsession with vintage perfumes. I came across it in JR Ackerley's "My Father and Myself" when he mentioned that his father, who maintained two separate families unbeknownst to each for years, used to buy Jicky for both his DW and the OW. First I thought: "cunning old weasel," and then I thought: "I wonder what Jicky smells like and is it still available?" Then I found out the price of it and nearly fell off my chair. But reading about its history was fascinating. And then so was the history of other perfumes. And, of course, I thought it would be very interesting to smell them. Just a few of them...

SOTD was Coty L'Aimant. I picked it up for a song a while back. I think it's 1970s from the style of the box, which still has a scrap of Christmas ribbon attached to it and a gift tag from Janet to June. I don't think June ever used it but it is charming - powdery, peachy and very proper - a perfume for young ladies, I think, even though now most people would take one sniff and say "old lady"!

Badders123 · 08/05/2017 07:09

Oh coty l'aimant! I love it!. That and vanilla fields. I might see if I can pick up a bargain 😊
I'm thrilled about SMS...I hope it's as fab as I remember...
Sotd..Hmmm...not sure. It's looking a bit grey here 😞 so might be knowing or the NR sample.
I have to be honest...I'm not loving the PP dupes I've had. Maybe it's just me?
I'm going to give the nivea dupe to ds2 as he loves it 😊
I'm desperate to smell jicky and l heure bleue !!

VintagePerfumista · 08/05/2017 07:31

Oooh, lots of lovely posts to catch up on.

I haven't bought anything for ages, a) because of madbusy- am entering possibly the busiest week of my life (exams all day Saturday and Sunday for my kids, DD has Spanish exams Thursday and Friday, she has her confirmation on Saturday night so family do, and I need clothes! and the confirmation means she has to be in church almost every day this week. I am doing 10 extra hours at school without pay because the school has no money and the kids need it for the exam...and breathe...) b) my bloody card keeps being refused despite being healthily in the black. I got very cross with "Rajesh" yesterday afternoon who told me my card was blocked by HSBC fraud team FFS. Now I have to ring them. I was trying to buy the bloody clothes for the weekend and time is running out! Gah!

Cologne! My gorgeous beautiful Spanish lover wore it, as did all Spanish males back in the day. So funny- I au-paired one summer and the boy went on a school camp thing and his mother was packing his case and pride of place went to a ginormous bottle of "colonia" Me and my friends used to roffle for hours about these macho men with their Camel fags and buckets of gin reeking of granny's eau de cologne.

Obviously am now going to have to get some just to remember. As if I needed reminding....

Badders- Apres L'Ondee is very very violetty and not much else IMO. I like it, it's classy, but it is one scent that I really do feel is too old lady and not enough grand dame.

I also love the old Estee Lauders but have rarely smelled any of the new, I got the PP dupe of Bronze Goddess which was hilarious. Ambre Solaire. Nice enough, and a clever concept, but I wouldn't wear it.

PP- if you like the Nivea/Dove kind of thing then my beloved Prada Iris will be right up your street, it's a cross between soap and cold cream I always think. OC- I have the Sahara Noir but haven't tried it yet. My colleague and I decided Tom Ford was....ssssh.....a bit Emperor's New Clothes Shock I was in Neroli Portofino at the time, and yes, it's lovely. Lasts 20 minutes and is no better than the Yves Rocher Neroli that you get a mahoosive bottle of for about a tenner.

Dream- I have that mini set with Paloma Picasso, Loulou, Anais Anais, Fidji, Ralph Lauren (it's just called that- small red bottle) and Giorgio Armani (just called that, presume original fragrance) I only really bought it for the vintage Fidji and original PP as I am never without AA anyway, and didn't know the other two. Might wear Fidji today. So classy.

In honour of our Scarf I stuck my nose into my sample box yesterday and imagine it smells like the Scarf. I isolated the outside of the Diorella as the main contributor. Magnificent.

Green- I have the PP Jicky. I find some PP's on the sweet side, and don't know if that's PP, or the way the real thing smells iyswim? Jicky doesn't give me that smell of sex it's supposed to, but then neither did Musc Ravageur. Just very sweet.

MrsCocoa- I need a list of your heavenly Avons!

I am going to totes ignore that you have said that Sarah M might ship to abroad if asked nicely. no, I'm not, clearly

Badders123 · 08/05/2017 07:41

Vintage....blimey what a week! Hope the card get sorted out. I don't find hsbc the most helpful of banks Tbh...
Sounds like apres l'ondee might not be for me then! I loathe guerlain insolence and thats very violet.
I so agree about tom Ford!!!! I thought maybe I was just not sophisticated enough to appreciate them but I've smelt 4/5 now and....meh. I have a feeling I would feel the same re jo malone...
Love estee lauder but thr older ones...and I like many that smell awful on me...My late aunt wore estee and white linen which smell odd on me.
Yes. Definitely lately a knowing day today.

VintagePerfumista · 08/05/2017 08:26

I agree re Jo Malone. I think JM is bought by people with plenty of money because it looks classy, They'd poo poo a Yardley Rose yet spend a bomb for a pretty black and white box.

Hmm, card now reinstated. "was stopped for security checks" ODFOD. Maybe they were worried I hadn't bought perfume for a month? Grin

Off to buy frockery. Urgh.

Badders123 · 08/05/2017 10:47

Vintage...try sensuous nude if you want to try a newer Estée Lauder...

Badders123 · 08/05/2017 12:28

I've got so many parcels coming this week I think I'd better just not leave the house 😂

Badders123 · 08/05/2017 14:01

Omg!
I forgot to tell you my dream last night!!
I dreamt I was choosing perfume with.....marine le pen!!?
No idea what that says about my subconscious....I was chatting with Ds1 before bed about the French elections so I'm hoping it's that!

Judydreamsofhorses · 08/05/2017 14:58

SOTD is Mitsouko - I usually wear this a lot in autumn, but was pretty welded to Heeley Cardinal and neglected it. God, I love it so much, and while it may not technically be appropriate for spring, it actually feels autumnal outside today, so I am owning it. The moment for bare legs has clearly passed!

Badders123 · 08/05/2017 17:17

I think Mitsuko - and indeed any oriental - was prefect for today.
Grey and windy and damp...we need some warmth from somewhere!

Badders123 · 08/05/2017 18:38

Oh dear.
Now I've bid for some lou Lou and obsession.
😳😂🙄

Badders123 · 08/05/2017 18:42

Hmmmm
What are our thoughts on rive gauche?

VintagePerfumista · 08/05/2017 19:52

Rive Gauche is marvellous! Grown up and classy. The second wave of grande dame. (PP version is fabulous, btw, I can't tell it from the real original and I wore that from 87-90)

I opted for Diorella this morning as I didn't have time for a shower so thought I might as well go for full on skank. I'm now showered and in Fidji.

GreenPolishToGo · 08/05/2017 20:32

VP that sounds frenetic. Poor you. Hope the frock shopping went smoothly. And of course not buying any perfume for a month is unusual activity - how on earth did you manage it?! Thanks for the PP Jicky tip - I had no idea they did one.

Badders your postie is going to be as overloaded as mine! So what was Mme LePen buying in this nightmare - Poison? Obsession? Je Reviens?

It's dry here, but very grey and rather cold - perfect for 4160 Tuesdays The Dark Heart of Havana - notes of rum, tobacco, over-ripe fruit and dark sugar, and totally gorgeous.
