I need another sniff of Femme. I had a small bottle which I wore when I was 14. I liked it but there was something in there that put me off and I bought a FB of Mitsouko instead. I had that and Ysatis.
I suspect I was too young.
I loved the comment about all-girls schools in the 80's having a perfume cloud hanging above them visible from space.
I think SOTD will have to be vintage Arpège given all the previous mentions.

VintagePerfumista · 11/03/2017 10:24

Well, thanks to the elastic band tip I am in Vintage Arpege.

I am so grande-dame it's not true!

Been mucking about trying to date my bottle- think we are probably 70s for this one. Other bottles the same on the 'bay are mainly in the US and going for about $50.

Its top notes had gone- but within 10 minutes I was rocking the fur-wearing, driving-gloved, smoking, red lipsticked hussy-scent.

I am now going off to teach 14 yr olds who will undoubtedly think I smell of wee.

I think violet is quite a cold note-, and if I think of Apres L'Ondee etc, there is no warmth somehow.

VintagePerfumista · 11/03/2017 10:25

I've got PP Femme- it's another trollopy grown up skanky pants scent.

s'gawjuss.

ThisThingCalledLove · 11/03/2017 10:50

"fur-wearing, driving-gloved, smoking, red lipsticked hussy-scent." I think I love you, vintage! You see, this is exactly the sort of look I aspire to and fail badly Wink I won't wear real fur and don't smoke any more but if I did it would be in a cigarette holder and possibly with driving gloves on too Grin

Isn't it interesting how scent sort of conjures up these images. I aspire to the Arpege glamorous hussy look but am too small and inelegant, so love the "Chanel no 5" look which to me is headscarves tied in a knot, pearls, low shoes (possibly matching your handbag Grin) and big pleated skirts I would love to see us all in RL, frustrated I know you are glamorous and lovely as I have seen you modelling lipstick elsewhere Wink

I'mscarlet I am useless at detecting "notes" but the only thing I detect left over from Lovely when I wore it recently was pure salt - this probably says more about my skin than the perfume though!

Like the Miss Dior talk, which MNers DH thought it was called "Misty Whore"? Grin does anyone else remember this?

Badders123 · 11/03/2017 15:02

Been to get mums Mother's Day gift ....she chose miss Dior 😀

Badders123 · 11/03/2017 16:55

I've just ordered a dupe from PP!
I will let you know what I think...

LesIncompetents · 11/03/2017 17:48

Thisthing I used to have some glamorous moments, pre DC. But these days I'm mostly grumpy and frumpy Grin

I've been a-sniffing today- had a squirt of Mon Guerlain in Boots, it's a very lovely iris and lavender combo with a soft, powdery vanilla drydown. Not your typical sweet sugary modern release but also very wearable. I wouldn't pay full price for it but might keep an eye out on eBay.

Also popped into Lush to try Kerbside Violet, I found the opening quite green, like sniffing the full plant. Very impressed with how long it lasted too.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 11/03/2017 18:13

Bugger, missed ou on FB of untitled. I really couldn't afford it though, this month is not a perfume buying month. I've got a pp shopping list building up, parmaviolets, that I know dd will nick, femme and I'm fancying bitter oranges.
Sotd was Shalimar-one last fling before warmer weather. Big mistake-whopping headache five minutes later.

Badders123 · 11/03/2017 18:17

I had a sniff of black opium - not sure. Think I prefer the original!

Also had a go of TF neroli portofino - horrible! 😖

The lush kerbside violet is very very violetty 🌸

Judydreamsofhorses · 11/03/2017 18:34

SOTD here is Miu Miu. I've not even been over the door today - lovely long bath while DP was at the football, and then fresh pyjamas and no makeup.

ThisThingCalledLove · 11/03/2017 19:27

There was a woman in the hospital waiting room wearing Tom Ford Tobacco Vanilla. It smelt lovely - why does it smell like I'm slathered in Vicks when I wear it?! Mind you, it was the PP dupe...

For complicated reasons too boring to go into Grin I have today received a sample of John Paul Gaultier Classique - I would never have ordered this, for some reason I felt very "snobby" towards it - well I eat my words as I actually really like it Blush not so much the initial spray, but the longevity is amazing and the drydown is powdery in the old ladies Handbag way which is A Good Thing.

Badders why didn't you like the Neroli Portofino, can I ask? I surprised myself by liking this, but the PP version definitely has lavender in I think which I like.

Will have to try the mentioned Lush perfume - I love violets, but for some reason the only Lush perfume I get on with is Karma (even though patchouli smells rank on me these days, I think the citrus in Karma lifts it enough). I haven't tried the violet one so will add to the pages long wish list.

Have to say I have been buying Perfume Parlour stuff as don't really have spare funds at the moment, but have started buying small sample bottles instead (hence the JPG). What do people think for limited funds - PP or small samples of genuine £££ stuff?

Badders123 · 11/03/2017 19:39

I found it quite chemically 😖

OCSockOrphanage · 11/03/2017 20:35

Hello perfumistas! Back from holiday and notice that the thread is cracking through but, I've only glanced over it. Lovely trip, but Dubai is soooo expensive now, thanks to the exchange rate and the cost of trading there: I stuck to the free events. Nothing much to add to scent love but tried the green TF scents, Vert Boheme and Vert Encens, at the airport. Liked both straight away, just not enough to drop £116, but am keen to find them again and consider decants. Too long ago to recall the live reaction... Apologies.

Imscarlet · 12/03/2017 09:00

This perfume parlour business.....are they good dupes or would I be better getting the real thing in a decant?

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 12/03/2017 09:47

Hmm, hard call. I tend to use them when the decants are still ££ or difficult to find, or when I'm skint but need a fix. Or if I'm not sure about a scent.
Soto is remnants of yesterday's Shalimar. I'm not venturing out, lots of cleaning to do so I was a slattern and haven't showered.
Oh Lovely fans, I noticed supadrug has a gift set of small bottles of the original and some flankers for £10.

Badders123 · 12/03/2017 09:49

I've finally used PP as I've ordered a scent you can't buy anymore.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 12/03/2017 11:15

What'd you get Badders?
I've been sorting out boxes of stuff that was my dms. Found the Dioressence talc AND a 70s Blue Grass powder dish with the puff AND a half bottle of EA Cabriole, had a squirt, and a look on Fragrantica. It says lots of Galbanum with carnation and jasmine. It's quite old lady hanky drawer 👍. The top Galbanum may have been lost but it's still a Lovely Thing. Now, do I eBay or keep? (We had loads of ea early 80s as my dsis worked for them.)

VintagePerfumista · 12/03/2017 12:15

If you decide to ebay, please give me the link and I will bid. (don't undersell yourself- the Dioressence talc will be like hen's teeth) Be careful how you list it- you can't list Dior stuff as used- they have a filter put on which blocks sales, because the house thinks you are flogging decants.

I am in Paris today again...am having a working Sunday marking IELTS essays which is dreary beyond belief so need something in-your-face to keep me going.

Last night settled down in cozy Miss Dior eau de cologne.

Re: PP- I think some are better than the real thing- Rive Gauche is more like the original- and having first had Infusions d'Iris from PP and then smelled the real thing, I prefer PP. Admittedly, most of my PPs are perfumes I haven't smelled the real article of, but generally I am very pleased with them. The only ones I'd diss are Chanel 19 (unrecognizable) Escape (ditto) and Aromatics Elixir. The others I already know are bang on the money, and the others I got to try out in case they were mingers.

EyesOfABlueDog · 12/03/2017 12:31

I was going to start a new thread, but thought I'd ask here, if that's OK. I used to love New West for Her by Aramis. Is there a dupe of it or anything similar? It's going for crazy money on eBay. I wish I'd bought more at the time!

teta · 12/03/2017 12:40

It's spring today and I'm wearing Penhaligon's Orange Blossom for the first time in ages. Its so beautiful after yesterday's shock.Wore Mito after an early start for dd's Netball match.Yesterdays opening ( was knackered) was a overwhelmingly big brash shocker that felt strangely discordant to my mood at the time. The amped up opening then subsides to a very muted white slightly buttery floral feel with low silage. Its not an everyday perfume and will very much suit a larger than life character and definitely not early morning starts .

Badders123 · 12/03/2017 12:41

Nothing vintage! A dupe of sun moon stars by lagerfeld which I LOVED...so powdery and subtle.

I will let you know let you know what I when it arrives!

Mum got miss Dior yesterday. Have to say I don't love it. But then again I'm not keen on Dior.....or chanel.

I'm still really liking Valentino poudre (although ive discovered it was a limited edition for 2016 and is very hard to source now....)
It's lovely but it doesn't last long at all :( I tried the body lotion tip and I think it may have helped a bit.

To the pp re lush karma...yes it's the only one of theirs I like but I'm not sure I could wear it myself iyswim?

VintagePerfumista · 12/03/2017 13:25

Eyesofabluedog- Perfume Parlour do a dupe?

www.perfume-parlour.co.uk/noo-westz-for-women

VintagePerfumista · 12/03/2017 13:27

Looks like it was quite unique!

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 12/03/2017 14:18

Will do Vintage. What would you recommend for wording? It's not used, but box is open.
I used to love dh wearing Lagerfield back in the day. If he wore it now I'd close my eyes and imagine him in his power suit and buttoned up white shirt.

LesIncompetents · 12/03/2017 15:12

Has anyone tried the PP dupe of Chanel no 22? I'm debating whether to give it a go or order a decant of the real thing.

SOTD is Badgley Mischka edp. This is a perfect example of a naughty blind buy based on a five star Tania Sanchez/ Luca Turin review Wink it's a very fruity and boozy fruitchouli, kind of reminds me of Coco Mademoiselle with an added dollop of brandy soaked peaches.
