The Great Poison Bait Banquet has been running all week at Chateau Cointreau (Venue: The Lower Tin Cupboard, Dress: White Tie and Tails, Carriages at Dawn), and yet still the little furry blighters come to feast. I have now used an entire box of poison, and I'm starting to wonder if it's actually having an effect on them, or whether it is simply expensive blue hamster food. Angry

Meanwhile, DM has returned safely from Cambodia, and is all set to come over on Friday to teen-sit. Except that two out of three of them have now announced they have overnight plans, and the other will be out all day, so it looks like DM is going to be virtually redundant.

Auriga · 16/02/2017 00:05

Oh, Friday? Not Sat? May be able to come, though not drink. Could eat to make up for it? Depends if this cold turns into something or nothing. Would be lovely to see you.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 16/02/2017 00:30

BD? Thought you were hoping to meet up on Saturday not Friday??

Collymollypuff · 16/02/2017 00:53

Sorry I think that's me inadvertently spreading confusion - I said Friday but I think BD is saying Saturday. Blush

IDismyname · 16/02/2017 02:39

Greetings from A business lounge, Crepeys. Nearly home.

Been out of contact for a while so sorry have missed latest crises/ bra recommendations/ broccoli quiche recipes. Could only load one page at a time.

DS is also coming home a week early. His dear friend is desperately ill and end of life care has taken over.

Got a mini maelstrom to attend to, methinks. Not feeling very strong ATM. Still shifting through too much from DFs death to cope with a teenager shuffling off this mortal coil TBS (Too Bl**dy Soon). What a tragic waste.

Reasons to be cheerful:
DS home so no more possible medical scenarios playing out
DS home so I get more hugs
I'll be home. Back to normal. Walk dogs. MU with Crepeys. Yay!

Blackduck · 16/02/2017 06:19

Saturday!!!

Friends mother died on Valentine's Day - she is now in pre funeral limbo.

Cloud :( re ds's friend.

bigTillyMint · 16/02/2017 06:38

Oh Cloud, how Sad about your DS's friend.

addle · 16/02/2017 06:59

Cloud, so sorry about DS friend

Took all family to see curious incident last night as it closes soon - didn't hate it but wasn't at all as blown away as expected from reports. Any other crepey views?

motherinferior · 16/02/2017 07:05

Oh Cloud, how awful.

Our oldest cat is shuffling and wheezing and generally not in a good way. DP, who does the vet stuff, says Not Yet...

Whereas your mice. CV, are clearly robust and death-defying.

Going for a Ladyjog before the day inevitably goes tits-up.AngrySad

bigTillyMint · 16/02/2017 07:26

Addle, we saw it a few years ago. Probably felt the sameGrin
We are off to Cirque du Soleil tonight, en famille!

CV, your mice sound scary! We get the odd one, but mice that eat an entire tray of poison and still come back for more Shock
A friend got in a man who got rid of their mice and blocked up all possible entry points and they have had none since AFAIK - would it be worth giving that a go?

BeachysSnowyWellieBoots · 16/02/2017 07:49

Cloud, that's so tough for him and all of you Sad Hope you can support him without draining your own resources too much.

CV, you need these http://www.toolandfix.com/fixman-674723-humane-mouse-trap-170-x-40-x-40mm.html?utmsource=googleeshopping&gclid=CO09siHlNICFdUUGwoddssMRQ

We had a mouse party going on in the tin/cereal cupboard recently. These work a treat, but you do have to walk a fair way from the house to set them free.

Off to see Rose in a bit. She's getting the whole gamut of dogs so our walk will be punctuated by me being pulled randomly from side to side. Grin

CointreauVersial · 16/02/2017 08:30

Cloud, that's desperately sad. Touch wood, none of mine have lost any contemporaries, although one of DS's aquaintances has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and DS has watched him deteriorate over the years. For the first few years of primary he was able to walk, but not since. He's now doing A-levels but very unwell.

Have a nice stroll, Beachy and Rose. Sounds lovely, even with the pulling hounds.

Those mice.....I dug about in my undersink cupboard last night and found some more poison - some evil-smelling red plasticine stuff. Mice heaven apparently - it's all gone this morning. Beachy - I tried similar humane traps, and they just served as takeaway restaurants for all the yummy bait I put inside. I caught one mouse eventually, but that's all. Drove him up to the posh houses and released him there. Grin Although those traps you link to look more like they mean business.

Just realised I wrote "human traps" and had to go back and correct. Although the amount of poison they're scoffing, I'm starting to wonder if there's something larger than a mouse at work.......

Off to work shortly, and there will be trouble if I don't get a card and a bottle. Big trouble. I do all the milestone birthdays at our office, buying champagne, and circulating a card, so it will be interesting to see what happens when someone else has to sort it.

Lalsy · 16/02/2017 08:46

Oh Cloud, how terribly sad. That poor family. I hope you have a good trip back, and get those hugs. Look after yourself.

Is it your birthday today CV? Many many happy ones if so! GinCake

We had mice years ago. I got a local firm in who make their own poison each year, specifically for local needs - bit like the flu jab. Apparently, mice in my area had developed a taste for Indonesian food so they flavoured it with peanuts. It worked.

Addle, ds and I went with mutual friends, as you know. The dss loved it but they were younger. I thought it was very inventive but more for the younger ones - suspect maybe it seems a bit dated now?

BeachysSnowyWellieBoots · 16/02/2017 08:50

Happy birthday CV WineCake

NUFC69 · 16/02/2017 08:56

No sign of mice now we no longer have cats, but it probably won't last.

Cloud, welcome home; so sorry to hear about DS's friend.

I have never had fungal toe infections, but know that the stuff the doctors prescribe is incredibly strong and with lots of nasty side effects.

Enjoy your walk with Rose and the dogs, Beachy.

My birthday cake for DGS went down well (it's a good job that the GC all had colds from the amount of candle blowing out which went on). Just need to make another cake now for DH's birthday which is on Saturday. The whole family are going out for an Italian in the early evening.

Just for MI.

Happy birthday CV.

It's dh's birthday today too so I arranged to work from home so we could have a nice breakfast with dd3 who is on half term - he had already planned to work from home this week due to assorted meetings with builders, council planners etc. Last night he told us he was going in to the office today so plans had to change. Dd3 very kindly (for a teenager) still got up for breakfast and present opening celebrations. She's still in pyjamas now debating whether to shower or go back to bed.

Sorry to hear about your ds' friend Cloud - death is never nice at any age but I always think it's particularly awful and unfair for the young.

Cremolafoam · 16/02/2017 09:07

Oh Cloud, how appallingly sad. I am so sorry too that you feel down.i am sure you will feel better after a night in your own bed.Flowers

CV time to be inhumane with the wee rodents? Dh swears by sticky traps. I turn a blind eye as I am mouse phobic. I once reached for a towel in the airing cupboard, only to have about 10mouse baby's run at me from a Mousey nest. shriek We would be infested , living as we do on the edge of open fields. That or get a man in.Sad

Off to collect dm, op went well. I slept little last night, fretting as per usual.

Happy Birthday CV 🍷🎁💐🎉🍾 🍹 Here's hoping you're suitably fussed over.

Mice and similar larger rodents..... The worse bit is the flies when they perish under the floor boards. Allergic as I am, if it was a problem these days at Rose Towers I'd be getting a cat. Cv time for the exterminator I think?

Welcome back Cloud that's a sad story, about DSs friend.

I am off to meet Beachy and scoff a hearty breakfast whilst chinwagging DD is doing her assignment and we are walking this afternoon assuming it doesn't deluge with rain , and then off to see Tiger at the local flea pit. BTM let us know what Cirque Du Soleil is like....we're thinking is seeing it at some point!

Blackduck · 16/02/2017 09:20
