Well, I had to didn't I? Grin Today I'm wearing W7 Viva La Berry in Berry Nice, which is a pinkish toned berry shade.

I'm a fan of lipliner but all of mine are Rimmel, No7, Essence or L'oreal- all excellent. No need to spend big at all

I must get started on my list....it could take hours, days even! Blush

Madmomma I used to wear either a very deep red or bright pink Grin

I will do a list today and post. I had a massive, MASSIVE clear out recently and they're all organised in separate clear makeup bags by colour with matching lip liners in each bag I need to get a life.Keep in mind that I have a slightly sallow/tanned Indian complexion, so my version of nude tends to be more brown/pink than most.

Hotch love your organization skills!

How does everyone else store theirs? Good storage must make it easier to find the colour you want and actually wear them.

seefeld It made things much easier. Since having the DCs, I had to give up my dressing table and find a better way of organising makeup that was easy to find in a hurry but could be slung out of sight. Behold, clear makeup bags! They're the really basic ones from Boots/Superdrug. I have a day to day makeup bag with the basics in and everything else in the clear ones.

  1. Foundations/concealers/setting powder
  2. Blusher/highlighter
  3. Mascara/eyeliner
  4. Eyeshadows - nudes, browns, golds
  5. Eyeshadows - jewel tones (purples, blues, greens) and black - they go well with Asian outfits

6-10. Various lipsticks and lip liners.

This all fits in a large-ish box and lives under the bed. The DCs haven't found it. YET.

My main collection plus I have a bag of daily stuff, in here I have foundations, blushers and face stuff, followed by eyeshadows, then lip stuff. I also have a pot with lip and eye liners.

Ah Charlotte Tilburys Pillow Talk has finally arrived. I really liked the lip liner, so this was inevitable. ;)

Enjoying this talk of make up organization and storage.

My Dc's are a little older now, so once they were over having 'jam hands' I treated myself to a make up table etc. It's urm... a tad cluttered & needs a tidy up!

Bubbles what a grand selection you have! I would love a nice dressing table like that! I like the fact you've got your best brands on show! I've just done the food shop and they had 35% off of Maybeline, I bought 2 nail polishes and a Matte lippy! Blush

This is absolute torture for my no spend ban. I haven't bought new makeup for a good 6 or so months now and all I can see is pretty palettes and beautiful lipsticks Shock

I've really had a blow out recently, I'm not sure why! I need to join the no spend 2017 thread and leave this one! 😂🤣 I just get over excited when I see brands I've not come across before and feel like I need to stock up on it and horde! Confused

Thank you Buster.

If it's tucked away, I don't use it. And it is a mess! I have more in the draw & to the left ( where most of my lipsticks are). I have magpie tendencies with make up. It's my hobby, stress relief & self care. With all that being said, I need a clear out Hmm.

Some of my makeup bits are like that too - absolute gems. Should I start a new thread for storage/favourites? I feel like I've totally derailed this one Blush

This thread is a great read! I have splashed out this morning on an Estee Lauder long discontinued lipstick on the amazon.com?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21 website, which is costing an obscene amount of money when you add in shipping and handling. But I love love love the shade and I will wear it loads.

What is the optimum number of lipsticks, do you think? Obviously, none are strictly necessary, but if you love and wear lipstick, how many do you think is an optimum number?

I have reduced my lipstick/crayon stash sunstantially, and I use each and every one that I have left. I have;

Chantecaille - deep plum colour
Estee Lauder - rose tea ( deep rose pink)
NARS velvet crayon in Happy Days (peachy)
L'Oreal - Siena 237 (bronze/brown)
Estee Lauder - barely there (deep nude)
Estee Lauder - Intense Nude (very deep nude)
Estee Lauder - Insatiable Ivory (proper nude)
Estee Lauder - Café Latte (this is what I have on order from the US)

I also have three lip liners which I can use with all of my lipsticks save for the Chantecaille deep plum.

The optimum number of lipsticks for me is probably 20 but I have about 50!!!! My favorites are my Marc Jacobs and my Chanel allure velvet. I'm also a huge eyeshadow fan and my favorites are currently my Diego Dalla Palmas, followed by my Dior summer 2016 ones. I cannot abide a eyeshowdow which looks great in the pan then looks wishy washy on the eyes. Revlon imo are a bit crap and are so disappointing. The first lipstick that got me into colour was Mac Girl About Town! Before then I was obsessed with dark reds that were almost black....I was only about 19 or 20 at the time BUT I still love them now as well as pinks, reds, corals, purples.... 💄 💋😍

Welltidy ive read another thread about EL cafe latte. Was that you???

Report
WellTidy · 06/02/2017 13:54

It was indeed me Buster. I weighed up the cost of having an identical lipstick made for me (£55) using the little bit of Café Latte that I had left, or buying from the US on the worldwide Amazon site, and knowing that it would be perfect.

This time last year, I probably had 20 too. I went through a no-buy period, and used up so many toiletries and make up items. I fell of the wagon at the start of this year, and I feel some more purchases coming on!

I'm glad you've ordered your hearts desire! I'm off the wagon 100% I feel like I'm feathering a make up nest, Like the apocalypse is about to happen! Grin

WellTidy I a, so happy that you will be getting your Caffe Latte!

I've tracked my lipstick wearing for a couple of months and so far I've worn 21 different lipsticks. I have about 40 (+ one lip palette). I think 20 would be an optimal size for my stash, and I am on a shopping ban to slowly reduce my stash (I've finished 5-6 lipsticks during the past year so there is hope).

Out of the 40ish lippies, just two are not-great shades for me. Based on my data, the price I have paid bears no relation with whether I will wear the lipstick. In fact, quite a few of my expensive lipsticks haven't been worn even once during the past months. The most important things for me seem to be texture (I don't like drying lipsticks), shade, how long it will stay on my lips (one touchup after lunch is fine), and smell/taste (I prefer scent-free).

LOTD is NYX Bloody Mary.

Another Amazing Grace fan here, it's a lovely shade. And, like Buster, I think I have about fifty lipsticks and I need to reduce. I did throw a few away last month, so may need to get even more hardline with my pruning.

Lippie of the day is Lipstick Queen Eden, which is a very cheery bright red. Semi-sheer so very wearable.

Thank you! I ummed and aaahed about the Café Latte for a couple of weeks, and bit the bullet this morning. I am 100% happy with my decision (which is a good thing, as it can't be justified in a monetary way) and am so looking forward to it arriving.

I am feeling quite virtuous with my only eight lippies! I've never felt that my make up collection is in any way small, so this is a new feeling!

Amazing Grace looks lovely. Clearly a must-have for us all.

Hmm, quietly thinking to myself maybe, use more, buy less. Then I remembered I have BB blusher on order! Anyway, I will sort my hoard out. I could sell some of it I s'pose?!

Yes to the storage & organisation MrsA.

WellTidy- pleased you went for it! Frustrated I feel I have a lot to learn from you & others who have been/are on a spending ban!

I've just grabbed everything to write a list. It's overwhelmingly MAC, but that's down to the fact that it used to be in my pro kit and I got pro discount on it.

I'll start the storage porn thread!
