Has the 'scarf' had its day...

I may be the last to realise but the scarf really seems to be now rather passé. I have many that I would previously throw on with a blazer, t-shirt or jumper and feel fab. Having just been trawling through pin interest, every image that showed a 30 or 40 something wearing a scarf, just looked really dated.
It was such a great, easy accessory. Now what! Interesting jewellery, bags, the skinny scarf?

Thanks Baby - glad it's not just me with a head full of this stuff!

The first 'designer jeans' I can remember where Gloria Vanderbilt. How we laughed. 'Whatever will they think of next?' we said, 'Designer bags?'

@Tanaqui

This probably sounds bitchy... But the European version? Confused Hmm

I personally think that these silk foulards are very often grandmotherly looking. Unless you're extremely stylish and fashion forward .

I personally don't see the point. I don't want to hide my neck, shoulders or breasts. And it's not like they give warmth. They are just so... superfluous (does that make sense in English)?

i'm mid 30s and think they had their peak 2005-2015. i used to wear the floaty ones all year round with skinnies and sleeveless tops, chelsea boots, sandals/raybans

if i wear one now, which for the last couple of years has been 1 out of 4 weekends, i feel slightly boho maybe? its not a look i can really pull off anymore due to changes in bodyshape and going grey.

i agree blanket scarves are huge autumn / winter outfit staples and i have bought several of these over this year and last year.

that said i did buy this last week www.joules.com/Women/Scarves/Wensley/Scarf/Gold-Floral?id=W_WENSLEY|GOLDFLO because it really suited my colouring and i like it with skinnies, a large handbag and a denim shirt/ lighweight slouch jumper. i cringed when i looked at the other joules scarves in the shop - the stripes with floral are just not for me!!!

Clary, I just associate the silk squares with France and Italy- maybe they were "in" there back in the 90s when I last went there! I never see anyone here in those silk squares, only the long ones like I linked to, which I am assuming are now out of date!

ClaryIsTheBest · 15/01/2017 20:53

Hm.... I grew up in Switzerland but I have a few relatives in France and many in Italy.

Maybe that's why they seem so out of date to me?

My grandmothers loves these kind of scarves btw...

Tanaqui · 15/01/2017 22:08

Pr'haps it was the French grandmothers wearing them back then too!

Notcontent · 15/01/2017 22:26

I still wear scarves because I am always cold! Actually, most of the young, fashionable women in my office seem to wear them for the same reason!
