Continuing from the previous thread. It's always so lovely to see new posters come and talk perfume. Everyone is welcome. Come and tell us your SOTD ( scent of the day) or ask us anything perfumey. Someone will know the answer! Get stuck in and get sniffing. You'll find no snobbery here!

Just thought I'd let you know of my 2 new fragrances....Luna by Penhaligons and Vetiver Insolent by Miller Harris.... I had a great time a duty free at Edinburgh Airport trying to decide which one of MH to get!!
Both beautiful and both quite different....Luna is a soft fragrance, bit of citrus and floral but not too overpowering...fresh and lovely to wear during day
Vetiver is actually more woody, mossy ( I think it's a mans scent, but who cares it's a lovely many layered perfume which is great day and night!)
I had a smell of the Armani Prive perfumes in Selfridges in Manchester- gorgeous, but very pricy!!.... Also love some of Tom Fords perfumes- some lovely, some rather awful!

MrsCocoa · 31/12/2016 14:52

Ageing: get a 10ml decant of the TF from Ebay (it will last for ages) and save your pennies for something that you completely cannot live without. (I find it sometimes takes a while to realise what these are...).

Think well considered perfume purchases are generally money well spent. Can't think of many other portable art forms that are capable of lifting mood and hold their value pretty well even after being used...

OhWhat: JhaG discovery sets

SilverHawk · 31/12/2016 22:18

A couple of you smelly vipers are after Cabochard Grin Guess what I've got?
Anyone got Byzance?

OCSockOrphanage · 02/01/2017 19:09

A fragrant 2017 to all you scent hounds! This has been a plague house recently so there has been sniffling and sneezing, but no sniffing. However, I am optimistic for tomorrow.

Did test the PP dupe of POAL against the real thing, and it is remarkably close just a little flatter in the last lingering drydown.

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 02/01/2017 19:10

What violet perfumes could I try? I love Paco Rabanne Ultraviolet.

OCSockOrphanage · 02/01/2017 19:17

Waitrose, have a look for Parfum de Therese from Frederic Malle, or a Perfume Parlour dupe (I don't know if there is one). Pure Parma violets but more dense and interesting.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 02/01/2017 19:47

There's always Vol de Nuit.
I've started with a rotten cold too, can't stop sneezing, so I think tomorrow will be a drop of Lovely. (Any fans there's some bargains in super drug of gift sets)

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 03/01/2017 20:19

Lovely thank you!

Stokey · 05/01/2017 10:02

Happy New Year perfume people

Did anyone see STC's list of their bestsellers in 2016? I thought it was quite interesting. My favourite POAL is at number 6, but there is a lot of Le Labo and TF Private Blend in there. I was wondering what anyone had tried from the list and what you would recommend?

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 05/01/2017 15:33

stokey the only one on that list i've sampled is POAL which i love. some of them sound interesting though so i may hunt out samples of them for testing.

Picked up Si Lolita by Lolita Lempicka today, unboxed 80ml bottle for dirt cheap and wowzers is it a peppery delight! I may have to go back for another one as it's a discontinued scent which is a shame.

Haffiana · 05/01/2017 19:56

I have Virgin Island Water and Terre d'Hermes. The list seems to be mainly masculines, and whilst I think people should wear what they want, some of them really are very masculine.

MrsCocoa · 06/01/2017 18:06

Possibly the best £70 I'll spend in 2017 (even if I did nearly have to sell PFB on Ebay to raise funds, as this was meant to be no spend January).

Silverhawk - thank you for thinking of us, but I'm afraid I'm spent out for now. (NB. Not sure we're really that viperesque here. Smelly is a fair cop though).

MrsCocoa · 06/01/2017 18:09

Talking of violet, has anyone smelt Geoffrey Beene's Grey Flannel? Sounds as though the formulation might have taken a turn for the worse around 2008?

OCSockOrphanage · 06/01/2017 19:27

I am sticking my fingers in my ears MrsC!

And the last time I smelt Grey Flannel it was 1980! It was very lovely and I bought then DH a bottle for Christmas.

Still unscented around here; this has truly been the worst virus we can any of us recall. It lasts anywhere from three to five weeks and nowhere can I see anything about it and what it is. Don't catch it lovely scented folk.

MrsCocoa · 06/01/2017 19:53

That sounds awful OC - hoping you're all better really soon.

MissJSays · 06/01/2017 19:56

I got YSL Black Opium for Christmas and love it. Before that my 2 faves were Victor and Rolph flower bomb and Marc Jacobs Daisy

Mawsymoo · 06/01/2017 21:22

Hi all I'm pretty clueless about perfume and I'm hoping you can help me! I usually like fresh fragrances but have fallen in love with the Sanctuary shower gel in White Lily and Damask Rose. Does anyone know if there are any perfumes of a similar fragrance I could try out?

MrsCocoa · 06/01/2017 22:48

Hi Maws. Haven't smelt that but had a quick look on Fragrantica for things with lily and rose notes and wondered if you'd tried Romance (RL) or L'Eau d'Issey?

Mawsymoo · 07/01/2017 07:51

Thanks mrscocoa I'll try those out.

I got a real wave of nostalgia the first time I used it so I suspect it might remind me of a perfume my mum had years ago. I have a memory of a dark bottle and there was a creamy perfume inside that you applied with a plastic dipstick thing that was inside the lid! Anyone recall such a thing?! Maybe the late 80s?

VintagePerfumista · 07/01/2017 14:14

Hello my lovelies!

I have been awol in the UK having a geriatric looking after Christmas (don't ask) but have managed to also be very perfumey.

Black bottle with spatula application- I know this. It's not the L'Aimant cream one is it?

I didn't get any perfume from Santa, but I did get some vintage Avon Moonwind gift sets (I think my new 2017 vintage fetish may be old Avons) , a vintage gift set of L'Air du Temps (circa 1975 looking at box) an original formulation Paris, (lost a bit of its top note but still just as rich and rosey underneath) a vintage gift set of miniatures with Anais Anais, Loulou, Paloma Picasso, Fidji and Armani. (makes me realise just what a travesty the reformulated Fidji is) and some perfume parlour dupes to add to my collection....the Tom Fords mainly and a big spray bottle of Prada Infusions d'Iris. I smelled the original yesterday at the airport and while it is lovely, the PP dupe is slightlier soapier which is what I love.

At the airport dd went for Burberry Brit (she is 14 so is allowed sweet sugar citrussy fresh stuff lol) and the lovely lady recognised us from before so handed over samples and a fab Burberry perfume keyring to my baby perfumista.

I hovered between Rive Gauche and L'Heure Bleue but didn't want a full bottle particularly of either (especially reformulations) so got the Liz Earle box of 3 x 10ml bottles of n 1, n 9 and (Iirc) 15. I love n1 so much.

Violet perfume- Apres L'Ondee surely?

VintagePerfumista · 07/01/2017 14:16

Ooops forgot pic of L' Aimant

Lovely, friendly perfume thread continued- Come and discuss all your fragrant foibles!
VintagePerfumista · 07/01/2017 14:17

I also got my fix of Coromandel and smelled Coco for the first time. Didn't like Coco, but quite liked Coco Mademoiselle.

Oh, there's an Opium mini in my gift set as well.

MrsCocoa · 09/01/2017 09:25

Reading Barbara Heman over the holiday has inspired me to revisit the Guerlain classics. Has anyone seen sample sets anywhere?

VintagePerfumista · 09/01/2017 09:28

Are you reading Scent and Subversion? Me too, it's fab, isn't it?

Haven't seen any sample sets no. (and been in Harrods, Selfridges, JL Oxford St, Stansted and Rome airports of late!)

Think you'd have to trawl ebay or do sample buying.

VintagePerfumista · 09/01/2017 09:29

(Stansted Guerlain made me growl- 3 shelves of Petit Robe Noir x 234 flankers, 1 shelf of Shalimar/Samsara and 1 shelf with a L'HB and then a few men's squashed in.)
