So I'm having drinks with Gordon at No 11 next week - what should I wear?

Smallish event. Early evening, will probably go out for dinner afterwards (not with the big G!).
Don't want to look like I'm up from the cuntry and overdressed, don't want to turn up in smart day wear if in fact everyone else is in cocktail dresses.

Straw poll then - what do you think?

How did I know that this would be PPH?

FrogPrincess · 02/02/2007 14:25

oh dear
slow typist

I can see some people are hoping for a 'I shagged Gordon on his desk' thread on the following day

expatinscotland · 02/02/2007 14:26

Boak, Frog!

Some of us are trying to eat.

PrincessPeaHead · 02/02/2007 14:27

I can't wear the chanel coat frency, it is full length and red and looks like I'm trying too hard

it is perfect for winter weddings in cold churches though

not sure I would let dh see me in those knicks he would probably never have sex with me again

now I bet a pvc corset would give me a waist cd!

What about that Agent Provocateur post-natal one - there was a thread on here about it last night?

FrogPrincess · 02/02/2007 14:28

I can see why this might be upsetting
Gordon is hardly a sex god

Anchovy · 02/02/2007 14:30

Issymum: I'm glad you've taken the "well cut black suit" message to heart.

I've got the Trinny & Susannh wonderpants which don't have an "opening gusset" and they are fantastic but a real palaver. They certainly put you off drinking as very hard to go to the loo. Also make you stand up straight.

Agree with Bink re jacket. My best buy this season has been a moss green silk velvet jacket with a satin ribbon tie front. In a good light I look only very slightly older than Katherine Whitehorn.

CountessDracula · 02/02/2007 14:30

pph
go to primark
then it won't look like you're trying too hard and you can say to Mrs B "ooh have you seen this dress it was THREE POUNDS in Primark, you have to get yourself down there they were selling out fast. AND they have fake UGGs for a tenner"

mozhe · 02/02/2007 14:57

Go for Spanx...they are brilliant, especially for the multiparous amongst us ! I have been introducing them to my french colleagues,( only the women...obviously ! ), and they are great admirers....Curiously they are also rather good during pregnancy, but haven't admitted that to obstetrician yet !!......Oh, and wear something on top of the Spanx, ok.

expatinscotland · 02/02/2007 14:58

PMSL, CD!

Imafairy · 02/02/2007 15:36

Wear your Armani suit, and get your hair 'done'.

swedishmum · 03/02/2007 00:11

Mozhe, apparently you can get maternity Spanx - prob need to buy from US. Can't be doing with the open gusset - I have some cheaper but just as good copies from

Rhubarb · 03/02/2007 00:15

wrinklytum · 03/02/2007 00:27

Once, during a prolonged period of excessive drinking, I went out w/a bloke called Gordon.

You're right, Rhu, it didn't last.

In addition to be a completely passionless name, he was also a prize twat.

ScummyMummy · 03/02/2007 00:30

I know a totally lovely Gordon.

Good luck, pph.

Ooh, let us know what you wear Pph. And post a photo (san head if you don't want to be identified!) for us, please.

There is a sexy picture of Gordon in the National Portrait Gallery, will see if I can find it. I didn't think he was remotely attractive until I saw it.

WideWebWitch · 03/02/2007 07:28

I meanst sans head, not san, sorry.

Here you go get a load of this!

Jbck · 03/02/2007 19:31

Friend of a friend took a bottle of wine & some crisps, us Scots never like to turn up empty handed & Gordy probably appreciated it. He did know him pretty well tho' so it's not as odd as it sounds, but I bet a few of the poncier folk thought WTF!

PeachyClair · 03/02/2007 19:43

That VW one Cod suggested was featured in The Times yesterday so everyone will know what you spent (but they'll also know its VW I suppose)

PeachyClair · 03/02/2007 19:46

now I like this although I do NOT like the price

Apaprently there's a nice red dress with corsage on the netaporter site y Moschino too, though I wouldn't touch red with a abrgepole TBH at that event

Skyler · 03/02/2007 19:58

According to that link from WWW he is called James. That is a much nicer name.

WelshBoris · 03/02/2007 19:59

How do we know Sarah doesn't come on here?

She could be on here now thinking

"another balardy do to go to, what shall I wear? Shall I just bugger off down Primark again? Or shall I give Gordy a cardiac and go bonkers on his Gold Amex?"
