He is talking about renting this for a formal do. I'm sure he's kidding. He has to be kidding, right?

Oh, I think you should let him wear the white one, and you can wear the dark one

And post the pics on MN

oranges · 31/01/2007 19:45

if you are not goiing to be with him, why not let him wear it to get it out of his system? You won't have to cope with people humming kid creole as he walks past.

kandi · 31/01/2007 19:46

Bless him, al least he'll look like an individual, lol! Thank God he's not wearing the white one though

oranges · 31/01/2007 19:46

and (whisper) I kind of like the black zoot suit

NotQuiteCockney · 31/01/2007 19:47

I'm not letting or not letting him, tbh. I'm just advising him on whether it's a good idea. I think it's not.

If he wants to start dressing more adventurously, I think it would be wiser to start a bit more gently, tbh.

I like zoot suits too! I like them a lot! But DH really isn't the type to pull them off. He's very tall, he's very white, he's not skinny, he's not ... he's just not the type. I swear. A tux suits him fine.

I think if he wants to start dressing adventourously in San Francisco, you should be relieved its just a zoot suit he wants to wear.

KezzaG · 31/01/2007 19:52

I think if he decides to wear it he should take along another normal suit. Then if he walks in and everyone starts pointing and laughing he can at least nip out and get changed.

Failing that, he should take vodka.

In terms of henious fashion crimes I would say the striped one is maybe GBH on an old lady, but the white one is premeditated murder.

filthymindedvixen · 31/01/2007 20:09

I asked my DH - who has been known to have various mid-life crises over the past 10-15 years - what he thought.

DH's reckons , and I quote...''if he wore a pair of leather chaps with his arse hangng out, with a clown's face drawn on said body part, twould achieve same effect.''..

NotQuiteCockney · 31/01/2007 20:11

Hmm, I think that's perhaps a little harsh, but I suspect men are harsher about people doing weird fashion things than women are.

He didn't take well to me explaining that he was the wrong colour, height, size, and sort of person for this outfit.

OP posts:
filthymindedvixen · 31/01/2007 20:17

Oh, deffo very harsh (and this coming from a man who contemplated dyeing his beard purple a la Billy Connelly !!)

NotQuiteCockney · 31/01/2007 21:04

Where are all the MNers who have met DH?

I have started mocking him about this now, so he's threatening to wear it. I think he's realised it's not a great idea.

You know, I am sure there are blokes out there who could totally pull this off. But I'm not married to one of them.

NotQuiteCockney · 31/01/2007 21:04

(other than Greeny, obviously!)

I just want more people to enjoy this ...

QueenofQuinoa · 31/01/2007 21:06

Just caught up with this and I must be inhabiting a different reality tonight because I think it is sort of a fab idea

Mr NQC is very very tall, and handsome in a groovy understated way. If he can't get away with it I would like to know who can.

and I don't think he's staid at all - that night shirt was not staid

harpsichordcarrier · 31/01/2007 21:07
NotQuiteCockney · 31/01/2007 21:07

Ok.

Um. You do realise I said he could wear it if he could find one person who thought it was a good idea.

So now it's your fault if he does it.

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 31/01/2007 21:08

hc, surely you don't think it's a good idea?

OP posts:
QueenofQuinoa · 31/01/2007 21:08

Have asked dp. "I think it would look ok. Or else he'd look like a tit." "He's not a bad looking chap."

NotQuiteCockney · 31/01/2007 21:09

Is there a non-shifty way to rub a DS Lite screen?

Hey, are you guys around on Sunday? I am a single mum for a day, and planning on being bored, might be up for a train journey. Oh, and DS2 has stopped napping.

OP posts:
harpsichordcarrier · 31/01/2007 21:10

oh god no it's hideous
small children will point and laugh
and your dh is WAAAAAAAY too English to pull it off
I was just queueing for the swinging

Greensleeves · 31/01/2007 21:10

Oh, don't worry NQC, he's met her, hasn't he?

QueenofQuinoa · 31/01/2007 21:10

LOL

oh wear it wear it Mr NQC

it will pay her back for all those times you had to go out with her wearing men's shoes

NotQuiteCockney · 31/01/2007 21:11

He doesn't mind me wearing men's shoes!

He was a bit sniffy about me wearing makeup at our wedding, though. (God, he wants me to go to one of these does in April. I have no idea what to wear. And damnit, the Zoot Suit is in SF, so no use to me.)
